Nice to meet you. I will start the beautiful temple trip with a happy heart.
"The mind you have practiced three days is a thousand years of treasure, and the wealth you crave for a hundred years becomes dust overnight." This phrase touches my heart among phrases of monk Wonhyo’s spiritual awakening.
Practicing one's heart is giving up the greed, the anger, and the foolishness in one's heart. In order to do that, I have to look into my mind at every moment.
Sokrisan Mountain, which means leaving the mundane world, and Beopjusa Temple, which means staying in the Buddha-dharma.
The name alone makes you feel like a pure mountain temple with the Buddha-dharma alive. The Beopjusa Temple in Sokrisan Mountain registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and became recognized worldwide.
Beopjusa Temple founded by spiritual patriarch Uisin during the reign of King Jinheung of Silla. After he brought Buddhist scriptures from India, he was looking for a place to build the temple, it said a white mule stopped and cried when it reached the site of Beopjusa Temple. So he built the a temple on the stopping spot of white mule.
Beopjusa Temple has various cultural assets, including Palsangjeon Pagoda(National Treasure No. 55), the only wooden pagoda in Korea. There are three national treasures of state-designated cultural assets, 12 treasures, 21 tangible cultural assets of Chungbuk, and 1 cultural asset.
Deva Gate: There is Deva Gate which serves as a gatekeeper to protect Buddhist pagodas and temples as the main gate of the temple. Niō has Naraen Kongō on the right and Misshaku Kongō on the left. Naraen Kongō is a possessor of celestial power, which is one million times the power of elephants. Misshaku Kongō has a Vajra in its hand, which is a weapon of wisdom and a symbol of Bodhicitta that breaks down the anguish.
Four Heavenly Kings Gate: They defend the Buddha-dharma in the east, west, north and south. Four Heavenly Kings protect the world from evil, taking charge of four defenses on the midpoint of Sumeru Mountain. I'm sure many people think the Four Heavenly Kings are scary.
It is because the Four Heavenly Kings made of clay and not wood, and another reason was that the Four Heavenly Kings shown their appearance ugly and huge to prevent persecution Confucian scholars during the Joseon Dynasty.
In any case, the Four Heavenly Kings made of a want to defend the Buddha-dharma and to defend our country.
Palsangjeon Pagoda: The pagoda builtbuilt to enshrine Buddha's sarira, which later became the center of the shrine. In China, brick pagodas are mainly famous, in Japan, there are many wooden pagodas, and in Korea, there are many stone pagodas.
Because granite is easily available in our area country, stone pagodas have developed a lot. Wooden pagodas burned by war, so there are no wooden pagodas left in the Three Kingdoms or Goryeo Dynasty. Thus, Palsangjeon, the oldest wooden pagoda in existence, recognized as National Treasure No. 55 and restored by spiritual patriarch Uisin during the Joseon Dynasty.
Inside Palsangjeon Pagoda, there are two Palsangdo (a painting depicting the life of Buddha in eight stages). In front of the pavilion, a Buddhist altar made to enshrine the Buddha, and in front of the Buddha statue is an agalmatolite Buddha and a statue of Arhat.
Circumambulation made according to the ritual of Parikrama. Parikrama refers to three turns to the right in ancient India as a respect of noble people. This is the Korean style circumambulation turns to the right three times around a pagoda.
Gilt-bronze Maitreya Buddha: Maitreya Buddha is the future Buddha. There are Dīpankara Buddha in the past, Sakyamuni Buddha in the present, and Maitreya Buddha in the future. I hope that Maitreya will come down to this land and serve many people.
The bronze required here amounts to about 160 tons. Inside the base, there is Maitreya Hall, which depicts the image of the Tushita Heaven where Maitreya Bodhisattva is staying.
Ssangsa Stone Lanterns: This stone lantern, which built during the Silla Dynasty, is National Treasure No. 5. The stone lantern means that Buddha's mercy lights up the dark world.
Lions symbolize wisdom in Buddhism. Here are double lions with one mouth shut and one with its mouth open. Nonetheless, the first and last sounds produced by the mouth are “Ah” (mouth open) of Sanskrit and “Hum” (mouth closed) of Sanskrit. When these two characters combined, they become the 'Ohm’ of a fully satisfied Sanskrit.
This stone lantern regarded as a masterpiece of stone art from the Silla Dynasty.
Daeungbojeon Hall: Treasure No. 915, the two-story building standing on a shallow foundation, said to build by the spiritual patriarch Uisin during the reign of King Jinheung of Silla, and enshrined of the triad-Buddha statues, which said to the largest seated Buddhas in Korea.
The Buddha enshrined in the center is Vairocana Buddha of Dharma-body that the truth is eternal. On the left, Amitabha Buddha of the body of Bliss which appears as a result of his long-standing performance in the past. On the right is a Buddha statue of Sakyamuni Buddha, who appears by various incarnations for the people.
The Buddhas enshrined of Daeungjeon Hall are the largest Buddha statues in Korea as an interior Buddha.
Huigyeon Bodhisattva, the Beautiful Bodhisattva, Sudarsana ,treasure No. 1417 which created in the Silla Dynasty.
The incense burner attached to his head, and the lotus flower carved on the side of the incense burner, and the Bodhisattva has the muscles that look like it has strength make the sculpture feel strong.
This bodhisattva stands on a foundation stone and carries an incense burner on his head to fulfill his vow to offer incense to the Buddha for eternity.
Wontongbojion Hall: This building built by spiritual patriarch Uisin. It reconstructed by precepts master Jinpyo in 776 and restored during the Joseon Dynasty. Wontongbojion Hall is the place where the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva enshrined.
Wontongbojion Hall shows the magnificent architectural beauty of the mid-Joseon Period, and the huge wooden Avalokitesvara statue will grant all our wishes with its benevolent mutual help. This is a single-story building of the main complex bracket system.
Seokyeonji: Seokyeonji, which built during the Silla Dynasty, designated as a national treasure. This stone basin said to symbolize the lotus pond in the Utmost Bliss of the Pure Land.
Rock carved Buddha: Treasure No. 216, Buddha statue carved on the Churaeam Rock next to Sarigak Pavilion, features a round face, open eyes, thick lips, straight shoulders, and unusually narrow waist.
Iron flag pole: It originated from the culture of the building the flagpole and used to publicize the contents of the sect or the Dharma Hall.
Cheolhwak: Treasure No. 1413. It said to have been cast during the reign of King Seongdeok of Silla. The huge iron pot, 1.2m high, 2.87m in diameter, and 10.8cm thick, is also said to used to cook soups for 30,000 believers. During the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, soldiers used it.
During the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, many monks, including monk Seosan and monk Saimyong, tried to protect their country by jumping into the battlefield without turning a blind eye to the suffering of many people.
You looked around Beopjusa Temple together. How was it? Leaving the world is to renounce the world. There are two types of renouncing the world with body and mind.
The fact that the mind has left the world is the true meaning of renouncing the world. As I put down my greed and anguish on Sokrisan Mountain which has left the world behind, I feel clear and clean. Buddha-land is nowhere else if it's not here.
If you felt peace and happiness in your heart at this moment, you are in the Buddha-land.
I sincerely thank you for staying away from mundane world and staying in the Buddha-dharma for a while.

세속을 떠난다는 뜻의 俗離山
법에 머문다는 뜻의 法住寺
# 금강문 : 사찰을 지키는 수문장 역할. 오른쪽엔 나라연금강
왼쪽엔 밀적금강
# 팔상전 : 우리나라의 현존하는 유일한 목탑
# 금동미륵대불
# 쌍사자석등 : 부처님의 자비광명이 어두운 세상을 환히 비춘다는 의미.
사자 한 마리는 입을 벌리고 있고(범어의 '아 : 시작을 의미함'자를 상징),
다른 한 마리는 입을 다물고 있음(범어의 '훔 : 끝을 의미함'자를 상징).
'아'자와 '훔'자가 만나서 원만구족을 뜻하는 범어의 '옴'자가 됨.
# 대웅보전 : 실내 안존불로서는 우리나라에서 제일 큰 불상이 모셔져 있음.
> 비로자나불상 : 진리는 영원하다는 뜻의 법신
> 노사나불상 : 과거의 오랜 수행에 의한 과보로 나타날 보신
> 석가모니불상 : 중생을 제도하기 위해서 몸을 나투신 화신
# 희견보살상 : 영원토록 부처님께 향불을 공양하고 있는 희견보살의 모습
# 원통보전 : 관세음보살께서 계신 곳

스님의 자세한 설명 덕분에 속리산 법주사 곳곳을 자세히 봤습니다.
남편과 산행 후엔 꼭 들러서 부처님전에 삼배 올리곤 했죠.
여러번 가봤어도 이렇게 자세히 알지 못한채 단순히 보기만 했던 것 같아요.

막대를 던져 짚고 찾아드는곳 속리산 법주사야 미륵에 전당 ~~ 카는 노래 학창시절에 청주인들이 불렀답니다. 내 고향 청주 보은까지 200리 군대가기 전날 문장대 오르고
결혼하고 신혼여행 법주사로 오곤 했습니다. 몰랐던 것 무여스님이 가르쳐 주셔서 감사합니다. 청주에서 20살 공무원 대구로와서 52년되었네요.
대구에서 직장불교 활동도 많이 하곤 했어요. 1988년 서의현 총무원장 계실때/ 조계종 원로이신 지성스님을 모시고 22개국의 400 여명 연합회 부회장 아이구 쑥스럽네요.
네~참으로 많은 일을 하셨군요~옛 추억 이야기를 들려주셔서 고맙습니다

제 개인적인 생각입니다만 불보살이되느냐 일반 범부가되느냐는 얼마나 자신의 마음을 잘 조종해 마음의 주인공이 되느냐에 달려있는것 같습니다 그방법을 2500여년동안 가르쳐주신 분이 부처님이시고 그것을 중생을위해 전해주시는 분들이 스님들이신것 같네요 항상 하루하루를 부처님과 제자분들에게 감사하는 마음으로 사는게 극락정토가 아닐까요
이십여년전 사찰 탐방객으로 방문하고 그후 두번이나 문장대 등산으로 방문 하였네요 국보와 보물 많은 사찰 이고 마이불도 아름답고 한것으로 보았습니다 방문한날 소방 점검을 하는되 부산한 기억이나네요 항상건강하세요 감사합니다...

법주사 가봤는데 진짜 멋있었어요.....팔상전은
지금없어진 황룡사9층목탑을 보는것 같았습니다
아그리고 금동대륵대불은 높이가3미터이고 무게가160t입니다(금이 무려80kg있음 ㄷㄷ)
