Ending E explained: This ending was novelized back when the original game first released in 2010, so it’s been around for a while. It’s most hopeful outcome for the characters. In every ending, humanity is doomed. Though Nier guaranteed its extinction by killing the Shadowlord, Project Gestalt failed the moment Replicants gained sentience and Shades began relapsing. Androids like Devola and Popola had been struggling for centuries to resolve this flaw and bring the project to completion, which is what caused the Shadowlord to begin his rampage. He’d realized that to “save” his Yonah, he could not continue to wait for a day that would never come. Following Replicant’s Ending D, the Memory Tree supercomputer is discovered by the alien machine network several thousand years later. The Tree’s comprehensive data on humanity is what causes the machine network to plan its own evolution. This kickstarts the main conflict of Automata. The buried data on Nier (the protagonist) SPECIFICALLY is used in part to create Adam and Eve. This is even hinted at in the English Replicant release, as Adult Nier is performed by Ray Chase, Eve’s English voice actor. In Replicant’s Ending E, the Memory Tree’s network administrators (the twins) reveal to Kainé that despite the player’s choice to erase Nier in Ending D, the Tree’s recorded memories of him still exist, locked away. The Tree not only records all human memory, but Replicant memory as well. Kainé enters her own recorded memory and forces all Nier’s data - his entire existence - to be “recovered”. A large Lunar Tear (this is confirmed in the script that came with the White Snow edition) blooms. Within, Kainé holds Nier, reborn at the age you, the player, began his journey. There’s not much to decode or decipher regarding the Drakengard/Nier universe. The ending functions largely as metaphor for its intended message - that no matter how bleak or doomed the world may be, life is precious. Although humanity and Replicants will soon fade into extinction, Kainé and Nier’s love, and the love of their family and friends, is meaningful. Their lives are meaningful. A massive Lunar Tear, a flower known for its rarity and beauty, blossoms for them, because they have found something in each other equally rare and equally beautiful. Something equally deserving of such value.
It interesting to know that Ending E introducing this memory tree basically gives us the source on how the Machine Network and the androids knew about humanity, since by Automata, they've already died thousands of year prior. Does that imply that resistance android like Anemone and Jackass were also created from this tree when the aliens start to invade or was the Machine Network also responsible for them like with YoRHa?
@@filchun6531 No, people just mistakenly attribute the flower as being the big bad when it was just a single failed attempt by the gods to kill humanity in 3 before settling on using red eye disease and watchers. I was spending so much time to decide if I would wait to watch it when I beat it or just watch on CZcams just to find out it’s an ending I already read haha
Biggest question: How did all this instigate the Aliens invasion of Earth along with the machines or really any of the main focal points with the events of Automata?
This ending was told back when the original game came out, in the Grimoire Nier book. Automata wasn't a thing back then, so it doesn't have any connection to it.
You can't fully understand these stories without referencing outside material, anyone who says otherwise is lying lol. That said its a wild ride and I love the hell out of it, Replicant and Automata are incredible.
As someone who's been a fan of Nier games for a while, I'm lost too. Story is deep and amazing though, convoluted as shit and very interperative if you're into that. Me personally I find those the best if done right. Metal Gear is another example of that style of story telling.
@@MrKing-qd7gi I feel like if you piece together all of the lore out there that exists, whether ingame or not, you can make a fairly clear picture of what's going on with of course still some speculation thrown in. It's pretty fascinating.

the ending shows hope, but honestly i think we all know is a vague hope, like ending e of automata.... yoko taro is so evil that he makes you doubt even a slight posibility of all turning out for the good..... brilliant
Well, the good part is that they're all alive and get to live out the rest of their lives together. The bad part is that the black scrawl will eventually kill every Replicant. Every shade has died out by Nier Automata, suggesting that humanity is well and truly forever gone due to our actions in Replicant. Honestly, everything is kind of fucked, the only happy part of this ending is that they all get to be together before the end.
Whaaat... is going on? Lol Also, is that the save files that were lost in ending D? Also, that giant Flower may be Lunar Tear, but it makes me think of Zero's Eyeflower in Drakengard 3
Because the Flower is behind every single event in the Taroverse. The Flower is the creator of the Intoners, which in turn resulted in the creation of the Cult of the Watchers, which led to the birth of the Red Eye Disease and the use of Seeds of Destruction, which led to the White Chlorination Syndrome, which makes humanity start Project Gestalt, which then fails and with the pass of millenia leads to a war between YoRHa and the Machine Lifeform Network, which leads to the Machines to start using the Logic Virus to replicate magic to create Seeds of Destruction and infect other worlds.
@@ZoeDickensBookotakunerdgirl101 The recent NieR raid in FFXIV explained that the Flower lives on despite being sealed twice. As long as someone has a fraction of its power and continues living, it'll continue to exist. However, this game and the XIV raids pointed out a terrifying truth: by merging with the Machine Network, that condition no longer is an issue. The Flower lives now inside the Network with no need of corporeal form unless the situation requires it.

One thing that I don't understand about this ending is that this Nier Kaine saved is the Nier from 5 years before or the Nier which fought the Shadowlord, yes it is obvious it is the young Nier but save that is restored is five years later Nier
Gonna be a little speculative here and say that it's an android situation. Nier has a new Replicant body (there were multiple generations of Nier and Kaine replicants before our Nier and Kaine) and his memories were just transfered over. His body may be different, but his mind and memories are all the same.
There are 3 save slots so selectively save to be efficient you need to beat the bitch 3 times on the 3rd one go through and save to two slots run c then reset the save to do d then go through to do e
It's not Nier's fault for killing SHADOWLORD. By the time Gestalt Yonah is dead, shadow lord doesn't want to live anyway and even stated he can't live without his Yonah and hes coming for her . So If Nier didn't kill shadowlord, SHADOWLORD WILL GRAB SOME RANDOM WEAPON TO COMMIT SUICIDE OR HES GOING TO KILL EVERYONE DOESNT MATTER ITS SHADE OR REPLICANT, THE WHOLE HUMANITY WILL DIED WITH HIS YONAH AND THEN HES GOING TO KILL HIMSELF.
honestly, it's quite clear that project gestalt was already a failure and humanity was doomed no matter what happened. The protagonist of Nier might have sped it up a bit, but Devola and Popola were really just trying to delay the inevitable.
I can’t tell if Kaine’s embrace at the end feels romantic or platonic or motherly, given the Nier she’s holding is the child version. I guess it’s up to anyone’s personal interpretation. Personally I never got the romantic vibes from the two (except ending c), so I’ll go with more platonic love and unfaltering loyalty on Kaine’s part
If drakengard 4 happened it would not be in this NieR earth timeline it would in the world of midgar ether be far far after drakengard 1 ending A Or Drakengard ending E after caim left it behind I wonder what happened to that world when he left it hmm 🤔
If you watch ending D that flower symbolises nier when he sacrificed his existence for kaine, fast forward to ending E the story basically continues from ending D, when kanei finds out that nier did in fact exist and that he sacrificed himself for her, in a way she basically got her memories back of nier so goes to Save him bringing him back into existence and then after she saves him that huge flower is still the same flower that represents nier, Basically symbolising Niers rebirth/existence into the world again and that kanei cuddles him tight also symbolising that nier is someone very special to her

The sad fact is, this is not a happy end. With the flower of destruction in place. Humanity was doomed either way, whether from the black scrawl or from the influences of the Intoners . Its happy to see Kaine and Nier being together for a brief moment, but all of this will lead to humanities end. And for Emile, his despair of being immortal, and being a guardian to the world, is only just beginning. Yoko-Tato makes the big sad, and intricate, well written stories. And I like them. :>
It’s a lunar tear. Humanity is still going to go extinct because of the end of project gestalt, but this is still unambiguously a hopeful ending, not a portent of doom.
@@d3lvn How is it a hopeful ending? Humanity *will* go extinct after this, the moment shadowlord was killed, all hope for humanity died with him. There is no hope there, Nier along with Yonah and their friends will inevitably face the consequences of their actions, with everyone else relapsing. All replicants will die spon after and the gestalts will turn into monsters.
So, what is the so called "serious consequence" of Kaine that damned the entire planet? All I can see here is a girl in lovely love that can bucher her own memories to drag his beloved back to existence. What is so damned about this?
It's not so much what she did as what said beloved did in the first ending to the game. By slaying the Shadowlord, Nier unknowingly damned humanity (both Gestalts and Replicants) to extinction. But the point being made here (in the closest thing this game has to a good ending) is that despite all that, their lives are still precious, as fleeting as they may be. That life in general has meaning, even at the end of the world, and the love we share with each other makes it all worth it in said end.

I was spending so much time to decide if I would wait to watch it when I beat it or just watch on CZcams just to find out it’s an ending I already read haha
Biggest question: How did all this instigate the Aliens invasion of Earth along with the machines or really any of the main focal points with the events of Automata?
Ah details details details don’t worry about it
This ending was told back when the original game came out, in the Grimoire Nier book. Automata wasn't a thing back then, so it doesn't have any connection to it.
@@FaylenTheFluffy one of many interpretations of the story I love it
the alien invasion was just a random event happened that lead to automata, stupid aliens didnt even realize they were attacking an empty planet
@@FaylenTheFluffy ending E is the canonical ending taro has said it himself
As a person whose never played a Nier game. I'm lost af but it looks cool
don't worry we don't get it either
But it hurts though on the inside
Me seeing the flower bud coming out of the ground: A seed? The other seed I know was real bad news.
Me seeing that it's actually a flower: WHAT HAVE WE DONE!?
So, happy ending or will they all die horribly? Lunar tear or flower of destruction?
Does that song have some king of lyrics or a remix?
*Discover this and more next time!!*
finally the ending i hoped for in the original.
the ending shows hope, but honestly i think we all know is a vague hope, like ending e of automata.... yoko taro is so evil that he makes you doubt even a slight posibility of all turning out for the good.....
Thank u for this ending 😭😭😭😭💜💜💜
Remembering this ending made me feel better after finishing Oyasumi, Punpun
Thank you, Yoko Taro.
it just when i saw the flower on the ending E always remembering Drakengard 3

Well as long as a giant woman doesn't come out of that flower ...
Whaaat... is going on? Lol

@@-Cetus- :0
Why is the flower from Drakengard 3 on Nier Replicant WTF?!
@@thatoneeco I was thinking that Zeros other dimension self is Kaine I think
@@ZoeDickensBookotakunerdgirl101 The recent NieR raid in FFXIV explained that the Flower lives on despite being sealed twice. As long as someone has a fraction of its power and continues living, it'll continue to exist. However, this game and the XIV raids pointed out a terrifying truth: by merging with the Machine Network, that condition no longer is an issue. The Flower lives now inside the Network with no need of corporeal form unless the situation requires it.

I saw the flower and immediately thought, “OH FUCK OH FUCK EVERYTHING IS SCREWED!” And then went “Oh… this is actually kinda wholesome.”
Thankfully, Taro has confirmed it’s not connected to the Watchers.
The Watchers laughed! The Watchers *laugh.*
*Lalalalala, lalalalala!*
If taro ever decides to make a connecting game between nier and automata this ending and even the original are going to be even more sad 😂😭
It's possible ending E of this game is essentially doing the same as ending E of Drakeingard. Hoping to see the timelines truly melt together
Do we get something like chapter select to do all achivements cause i dont want to farm all that mats before finishing the story
There are 3 save slots so selectively save to be efficient you need to beat the bitch 3 times on the 3rd one go through and save to two slots run c then reset the save to do d then go through to do e
Kaine is my spirit animal.
1:23 that harsh words are somehow adorable for me
What happens if you don't record your save file? Does it just fade to white and resets to a checkpoint or is there an extra scene?
Good question.
Don't you have to save at the end of each run? So technically, it's not possible to get to Ending E without a save file.
The ending so painful because erasing memories...
"Now how the heck are we going down from here?"
Ignore the giant Lunar Tear
The real trouble is that big pink flower in the "Kainè memory"
Wait which kaine memory
Who else was reminded of Drakengard 3 when the giant flower appeared?
FFS WHY A FLOWER?! WHY A FREAKING FLOWER!?!? THOSE THINGS ARE NEVER A GOOD SIGN IN ANY OF THESE GAMES!!!!
Yonah would be the older sibling or they would be around the same age
Yonah 15 Young Nier 16
I can’t tell if Kaine’s embrace at the end feels romantic or platonic or motherly, given the Nier she’s holding is the child version. I guess it’s up to anyone’s personal interpretation. Personally I never got the romantic vibes from the two (except ending c), so I’ll go with more platonic love and unfaltering loyalty on Kaine’s part
Im pretty sure it’s romantic.
Straight up romantic.

Why is there a giant flower and is brother fucking dead?
If you watch ending D that flower symbolises nier when he sacrificed his existence for kaine, fast forward to ending E the story basically continues from ending D, when kanei finds out that nier did in fact exist and that he sacrificed himself for her, in a way she basically got her memories back of nier so goes to Save him bringing him back into existence and then after she saves him that huge flower is still the same flower that represents nier, Basically symbolising Niers rebirth/existence into the world again and that kanei cuddles him tight also symbolising that nier is someone very special to her

@@arcflamearcanum7579 Huh, Good call. I wasn't paying attention to the cast list and to be honest I heard Sam and Eden Riegel more through that performance.
@@kyransawhill6650 how did he damn humanity? I got all the endings, still i'm pretty confused. Also, where the hell weiss go? And grimore noire? Why did he help the shadow lord(is him in the prologue, am i right?)? What the hell was grimoire rubrum? I'm pretty intrigued in this saga, the problem sadly is that i don't have much time to discover the lore outside of the games and connect all the dots
@@dormin2749 The Shadowlord is the one keeping the remaining Gestalts from relapsing and when Replicant Nier killed him, all Gestalts will relapse and die out. To create Replicants, the Popola and Devola units need the genetic data of their corresponding Gestalts. Without their Gestalts, it will be impossible for them to create new Replicants.
