    Wow this is spot on. It's been dead calm and warm here lately and the fishings been dead. Wind picked up today and it's supposed to rain tonight, had one of my best days so far this season lol. Caught the biggest ones on a chatterbait.

    Spinnerbait Chatterbait for sure in the wind but early in the morning or evening I really like throwing a big rat wake bait . For whatever reason smallies crush those rats even harder in the wind ( even better with light rain as well )

    Best day small mouth fishing was in 4 foot rollers on a lipless crank. Actually caught 3 doubles out of 60 fish. Fishing just for fun that afternoon, but a day I'll never forget. Literally like a fish per cast before we had no option to get off the lake due to tornado warning

  • @stoneysdead689
    @stoneysdead689 Před rokem +1

    Windy conditions are tough on a kayak- you get blown all over the place and can't sit still. I end up on the bank a lot if it's windy. I like a lipless because I can control the depth with my retrieve and how I hold my rod- and it's a great bait for fishing fast- it doesn't blow out. Plus, it has enough weight that it's not a pain to fish, I don't need to watch my line or feel for the bite. Spinner baits are another favorite- for the reasons you mentioned.
    But the last time I fished in windy conditions I found out I could drift a tube and take advantage of the wind blowing me around- and it worked, I caught several. I just pitch it out about 10 feet from the kayak, let it hit bottom, and then as I drift if I feel it snagging up I'll lift it, let if fall back- keep dragging. It feels like getting snagged when you get bit but- when you go to lift it, it pulls back.

  • @tommymckiddy7872
    @tommymckiddy7872 Před rokem +1

    Depends on the size of your water and the size of your boat. I've had some rides back to the boat ramp where my butt was puckered shut. It's not fun when you're in a small boat taking bow waves.

    Matt, it is very cold here in South Africa and very windy for the last few days. I am not sure which baits to use in the very grassy dam i fish at this afternoon. Will a weightless texas rigged worm or soft plastic work in these conditions or should fish something else. The dam is quite shallow and i fish from the bank.

    A video about weedy conditions could be useful and helpful. Lately I've been dealing with a lot of floating and drifting seaweed, a long thin kind that gets stuck on baits. It happens in freshwater too sometimes. So your tricks for catching fish with lots of debris in the water could be great. Thanks.

      Hello. Im in northern Illinois as a bank angler. I feel your pain when your bait gets tangled in weeds. Use a chatterbait like Z-Man Jackhammer in a 3/8 or 1/2 0z. OR use D&M Custom Baits Bladed Tungsten in same wieght. Its a LAWN MOWER weed cutter with a ginormous thumping action. It makes your rod feel like a diesel engine. For trailer: Gary Yamamoto Zako paddle tail Green pumpkin color. They make a 4 inch size that pairs well with either bladed jig. Check your knot and - tight lines.

      @@pequenioedgarito3067 the only problem with using a chatterbait is that I fish almost only in the saltwater. I'm starting to play with them but I haven't had much luck yet. I'm also in an area that's new to me.

    • @comfortablynumb9342
      @comfortablynumb9342 Před rokem

      @@samh6886 I caught a hybrid bass in Lake Winnebago when I was a kid. I'm from Florida and my grandparents took me on a Midwest tour one summer for a couple weeks. I had no clue how to catch those things so I just treated it like a saltwater situation and I caught a fish on a day that nobody was catching much. The jigs we got at the local tackle shop were silly looking things but I don't remember exactly what they were like. Anyway it's a nice area and I'm glad I went. Once. That's enough. I belong near the saltwater and the fish in it. But I hope we get a video about dealing with floating vegetation because I don't think it matters if it's fresh or saltwater. It's a pain in both. I guess it's dead marsh grass here, a foot long or more and there's single pieces and floating rafts of all sizes. It sticks on knots, hooks, baits and it wraps around line. Super annoying.
