  • In this video I showcase the apprentice starter up kit offered by Snap On Tools. This is a 40 Inch roll cab with all tools included to get you up and running. There are many different variations from tool companies catered for entry level technicians, giving the ability to roll your tool box in and start on the job straight away.
    I had never seen the Snap on version of this so I thought it would be a useful video for any new Technicians / Mechanics looking to make Snap on and Bluepoint there main tools.

    I sincerely hope no apprentices buy SnapOn tools starting out. There is no need to get them with the huge amount of great tools for far less money and not getting into debt. If you start off working to pay for your tools for the next few years you are doing it wrong!

      I think this kit offers a good balance, it's not a crazy price and for what's included I believe is decent value all round. The box is very very nice and expensive on it's own

    • @coltoncj1
      @coltoncj1 Před 10 měsíci +10

      Agreed! Nobody should start off in that kind of debt. Apprentices should go on a massive harbor freight shopping spree when they first start, and then upgrade the stuff they need to upgrade. I’ve been in it many years, and still use some of my original harbor freight stuff, because I had no need to replace it!

    A lot of companies buy these for starters sets to get start up mechanics interested to work for them. It's a write off for the company and provides them a chance to get a good apprentice. The great thing about Snap On, other than it's a great tool, is you can sell the tools and box and always get your money back. I've had Snap On tools for over 30 years and some of the items are worth more now than when I paid for them. Not only that but I get several people coming to buy my Snap On tools, when I sell other tool brands and no one shows up...

    • @MrGuyBroDude
      @MrGuyBroDude Před 10 měsíci +2

      Especially their digital torque wrenches. They don't sell the 1/4" ones anymore and I have 2 of them and people try to make offers up to double what I paid for them all of the time. It is crazy how some of these tools are so in demand when there are also other solid brands out there. I recently picked up cornwell's digital torque wrench set (1/2", 3/8", and 1/4") and they are incredibly solid for well under snap on prices with the same warranty. I paid like 700$ for all 3 with a 200$ rebate truck credit on top.

    Nice tool box. I was surprised to see Blue Point sockets and ratchets when you opened the top drawer. I guess that is Snap On's way of cutting cost to compete with the competition. Back when I started there weren't a lot of alternatives to the tool trucks. Sears Craftsman was the go to supplier here in the States for your first set of tools. I later progressed to Snap On, Mac and Matco when I had access to the tool trucks.

    • @MrGuyBroDude
      @MrGuyBroDude Před 10 měsíci +3

      I bought the bluepoint master starter kit (for around $800) when I first started and it is a solid kit. I still use the sockets, extensions, and wrenches every day and have had zero issues for years. The ratchets I will say is 100% the weakest point. They just don't feel conformable to use, they get insanely slippery when they get wet with anything, the heads are huge, and teeth for the gear feel really bad. I replaced mine with the snap on sets that came with short, med, long ratches for 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch drives and love them.

As well as not having blue point cutters etc etc etc. rocked out with brands like capri, GP, tekton just to name a few good Taiwan brands with a same warranty and half the price.

In my experience "less is sometimes more", there is not always need for every possible size in both metric and imperial. A good base and then add-ons can be just as good...

    i hope these apprentice kits are purchased for the apprentice and aren't taken from their wages as that looks like a very expensive set-up even if the majority of tools are Blue-Point branded rather than Snap-On. i do think that you could get a much more rounded and complete set-up if you shopped away from Snap-On especially for an apprentice and still have the benefits of things like a life time warranty. The main thing i learnt when a technician was that you don't need to buy expensive tools, especially for the items you use less often or beat up on/abuse, i love my snap-on ratchets but pair them with sockets from the likes of Milwaukee, Sealey, Bahco, Draper, only buying Snap-On sockets if i was in a pinch and the van was right there

    If a company offered me that set for free then great, but I wouldn't pay £2750 for it if I was an apprentice. I would go straight to Halfords, and buy some Halfords Advanced tools, for the price with a lifetime warranty they are the best value for money option you can get as an apprentice, also Sealey in my opinion. Then as you start earning some money slowly buy what you need and take home the Halfords stuff for side jobs or your own vehicles. They are still tools for life, because of the lifetime warranty at the end of the day.
    Also it's a pain in the bum if you go independent and need to warranty something on the truck.

The three impact sockets & 3 inch ext that this set contains is virtually useless. Snap on screwed this poor kid out of the gate ,every tool co does it , mac , matco , cornwell , gearwrench . It,s time they quit screwing over the new guys & give them a starter set that contains the tools they really need ....

    Unless you specialise in vintage cars, the imperial stuff is a waste lf space surely?
    I've been a mechanic for 10 years and the only imperial tool i own is a 1" (i think) socket from Halfords for the nuts used to fil oil coolers to cars. And thats my personal track car.
    Seems a bit crap to give an apprentice a load of pointless sockets. I'm sure there more useful things they can put in the kit.

    Not a bad set but too much of what you'll rarely need and priced too high. I got mostly snap on myself but that's only because I started in the 80s. No internet no credit it's what you did then. But now you can literally find the best deals while relaxing on the couch and have Amazon deliver it. I got 2 rollers and 2 top boxes and I'd still be paying for them if they were snap on. All those weird special sockets they keep coming out with I get on Amazon screw snap on plenty of well known name brand companies selling for a lot less. All my electric tools are Milwaukee can't beat the price and quality. A former coworker of mine has a snap on tool box he paid 15k for. My tool box I paid 2300 for is literally the same exact box with a slightly different drawer configuration. Same dimensions and weight it's insane didn't get sucked in.

    If the company gives this to you then take it! If you have to buy this stuff yourself then stay away from the tool trucks. Get set up with harbor freight then move up as needed. Dont let these old guys tell you that you need to look professional with over priced stuff. I always laugh when kids say they cant afford college so they went into this trade and spend 100k in tools and boxes and hate the job lol. Make sure this trade is for you! Its not easy and dealerships are mostly terrible! Right now our porters make more an hour then our lube techs.... makes sense.. ssa backwards

      Total truth here. The tool trucks enslave workers with rediculous prices and debt. Harbor Freight is the way to go. Their US General tool box line is outstanding and will cost a fraction of tool truck prices, and are outstanding quality.

      @@theirishman088 Yup, it's a shame guys get brainwashed into taking on a bunch of debt to enrich the greedy executives at Snap-on. I have an older 4-drawer US General Series 1 cart that was a little over 100 bucks back then (220 now) and it has been outstanding. I did call the HF parts dept and bought a couple replacement drawer slides just in case, but have never needed them. I have always fancied the 5-drawer bigger cart, so I ordered it a few days ago in the store at the current sale price $190 plus tax, regular $270. It's a killer value. The comparable 4 drawer cart to my old $220 cart at Snap-on is a Blue-pont 4 drawer and it is priced at $1,075, rated at 540 lbs capacity. The US Gen 4-drawer is rated at 580 lbs., 5 drawer rated at 700 lbs.
