  • After being really uncomfortable on the boat during the first storm in Sarasota, Florida, we decide to stay in a hotel for the second one a few days later. Winds are predicted to gust to 45 knots. Chris spends time prepping Thataway, taking down the solar panels, checking lines that are attached to the mooring ball, shutting off electrical breakers and setting up remote monitoring systems. The worst of the storm arrives the next afternoon and Chris gets back down to the park near the mooring field to check on the boat. One boat had its mooring lines fail - the ball infrastructure - and they returned to the marina after unsuccessfully trying to re-attach. The next day the weather calms down and we are on our way south again! Thanks for watching.

You know, it never looks as bad on film as it does in person. I'm always hesitant to say just how turbulent things are for that reason. People know that I have low tolerance and there is an assumption of exaggeration by me. Chris certainly wasn't freaked out being on the boat in the first storm, but he did acknowledge that it was a bit uncomfortable. He was 50/50 about staying on the boat for the second one. But because he wasn't worried about not being on the boat, he decided to come with me.

It's beautiful! I think it's just been one of those winters where it's been colder and not as sunny. But still, we'll take it!

It's always one day (one storm) at a time! We might be challenged by the weather but the people here are superb!

I have witnessed a finger lost by handling an anchor chain while using a windlass. Suggest you just pile the chain on deck and deal with it later if you have to manually hoist it.

Probably a good idea. I was piling about 5 or so feet in front of me and then pulling it in. I felt safe but having been around equipment my whole life - especially equipment with "nip" points, your advice is probably solid.

well an eventful trip so far and it is bad that the weather played such a roll in the trip. Maybe you are right in taking a trip back home to recharge and lots of stories to tell. Enjoy

Love your videos but you don’t look like your having a good time. Sorry for that. We cruise a Lien Hwa 50 footer. We weathered 60 knots. It was comfortable but nervewracking only because we were at a dock and the storm surge was worse than had we had a mooring ball or anchored out.
