So wasteful and inefficient. At the very least the heat from making the charcoal could be used to dry the briquettes. That is not much better though. Simply adding 1 metal pipe to the charcoal furnace and running water through it could provide heating for multiple homes.
It's better than nothing, and it is a tropical climate; they need heat on demand not whenever the kiln is running. Local boilers running off locally produced charcoal is efficient, although I do tend to agree the waste heat can be better used. I would opt for boiling water to run a steam driven turbine, personally. Electricity generation > home heating in an inefficient manner. It's easy to criticize them though, eh? I like your thinking, but not your approach. Too unpleasant if you just want to help them improve their process.
