    In this episode I discuss why Taiwan emerged relatively unscathed following the recent 7.2 magnitude earthquake and how things have improved since the last big shaker 25 years ago.

    台灣建築不僅是在建材和技術加以改進,而且地基挖得比其他國家還深,即使是九二一前就蓋的花蓮兩棟大樓也只是傾倒,不會像土耳其一樣,遇到大地震時,整棟建築粉碎,造成嚴重傷亡,也不會像摩洛哥一樣,就算都是高度不高的低樓房,仍然造成近三千人死亡

      傳統宮廟建築,就是典型的軟腳蝦建築,因為柱子全是沒上鋼筋的石頭柱,地震一晃就斷了。

    • @a27629698
      @a27629698 Před měsícem +1

      這次花蓮的損傷建築很多都是下陷微倒,而非整個倒塌
      主因還是在於像飯店、早餐店這類的店家需要開放空間,所以一樓有一個區塊幾乎只有柱子支撐,在這種狀態下很難承受數十次的左右搖晃及上下拉扯,如何取得兩全是最大的課題

      花蓮大部分的房子都耐6級震度 ,住在3樓的我,都覺得6強的震度真的很可怕,因為板塊會左右傾斜,房子變身成一艘海盜船,像一個大怪獸在屋外搖晃房子,7級震度可能耐震的房子8成都會倒。

    For some reason, it was a magnitude 5 here in Hsinchu even though it's further away than Taichung, which was a 4.
    Still, it was a bit scary for sure when it got stronger! Never felt one that strong before!
    Completely agree about the beauty of the east coast though. I loved driving my scooter along it in 2022. Hopefully it won't take too long to repair the damaged areas.
    It's really sad that a few people went to enjoy hiking or visiting Toroko Gorge only to end up losing their lives.

    早一天晚一天都只是在play what-ifs,時間點呢?7:58正好上班上學潮,任何大樓或大橋垮下來或捷運火車出軌也是大災難,結果就是沒有。台灣不只從921學習,台灣是持續不斷從自己與他國經驗中學習,原本建築法規就已經抓比別國高的係數,921後再提高。如果有看過捷運或高速公路梁柱會發現大多都套上一圈鋼板,這是從日本坂神地震事後檢討中學來的。

    • @chinghanho
      @chinghanho Před 2 měsíci

      其實全國 72% 的建築是 921 之前蓋的,12% 的建築是修法後建的,修法又分 2003 跟 2006,如果是後者甚至全國佔不到 10% 的建築。
      所以如果要說什麼 921 經驗救了 403,並沒有,921 經驗其實只救了 10% 的人;只能說 921 當年沒倒的這次 403 還是沒倒,所以大部份的人沒事。

    The peak ground acceleration recorded of the 921 earthquake had reached over 1G(989.5 gal exactly) near or at the epicenter. Just imagine you yourself and your surroundings (the structure) being thrown back and forth in such massive force. Truly terrifying. 😨

    Ah, finally someone who put the location of the quake before "building codes" and "Taiwanese prepared". Taiwan simply got lucky this time -- the real test of the latter two will only come after another major west coast quake. Only then will we know if building code changes after 921 actually did anything, and whether Taiwanese truly are that prepared.
    In my limited observations though, I don't see the Taiwanese being particularly prepared, barring perhaps a psycological "nothing I can do, so be it" attitude. Very few have earthquake survival kits, or know where to seek refuge after a major event. Taiwan's readiness is far below that of Japan.

    • @AsiaHikelopedia
      @AsiaHikelopedia  Před 2 měsíci

      Very true. As for preparedness, I think kids are more prepared than the adults as they learn it at school. The only way to ensure preparedness is to run ad campaigns. Now would be a good as time as ever to do so!!!

    It is also because Hualien has a lot of large earthquakes, so the buildings might be relatively more earthquake-proof due to "natural selection." When 921 happened the regulation for buildings are much more lenient. Buildings built in the past 25 years are sturdier.
