The speaker surround on the purifi woofer looks like a waterfall plot that you get when you measure speakers for ringing/resonances. Being an audio geek, I really enjoyed watching the build! What an incredible set of drivers from Piriform and BlieSm. With the DSP it makes it possible to use a sealed enclosure AND have great bass below 30Hz! Wow! Now you get to have your cake and eat it too ;-) Your efforts seem to have paid off as there are people are replacing ATCs and other high end monitors. I know I want a pair!
Nice to see! One note: I get 550w of amplification on a smaller footprint in my 8351 and 8341 (even smaller footprint), but that's 45 years of R&D behind that company. Looking forward to seeing future iterations of the MUMs.
Fascinating insights and great to see the speaker elf in his natural habitat. Proper little CNC music factory you've got going there :-). If I could offer one bit of advice I'd say putting your cup of refreshing beverage on the same bench as your cup of pva could easily result in a nasty surprise.

And, I’d really like to see a deep dive into the DSP side, so how you found the perfect crossover points, getting the phase aligned, and setting up the monitors in a new studio and optimising them with the Trinnov etc. Would you be up for making a video covering that? First of all, big respect to having the balls and step into this crowded market and done the research before releasing this handmade product. Very impressive leap within couple of years. If it hadn’t been any Brexit, probably I’d give a try to your studio monitors. I thought it is overpriced but it’s not. I think if you get any profit on these now due to bulk order of components, it will regain your invested quids in this project very slowly. And ee have not touched the invested time yet, which is always much more precious. As a private person, the biggest downside in EU now, that we have to pay the VAT of the country + any custom fee if we import anything from UK. Which means 20-30% increase in retail price. I was thinking about build my own one with same woofer/tweeter combos. Skilled enough handyman, with access of tools and/or connection to get boxes right too… I even could order the beryllium coated ones for double the price of the silks now. But would I be super cost effective? No. Is it for sure they will sound as good as my KH310s for same price? No, not really (unless you sell all details and blueprints for diy CNC). So simply financially it is not worth for me. Anytime I’ll be able to get significant profit, I’ll give it a go though. By the way, have you considered sharing any proper measurement data of this beauty? Maybe sending it to Klippel in Dresden (Germany) directly? Or asking them if they have partner with same service in UK?
Hi there! When we sell outside of the UK we charge the price excluding VAT, and then the VAT is charged as import duty when the speakers are imported into your country, so everyone pays around £4,995, to keep it fair and affordable :)

Question though, after sealing the cabinet so well during assembly why is there no sealing around the cable sockets and could those pilot holes not be drilled during the CNC process? Thanks for the comment! The cable sockets use airtight connections, and so they’re essentially sealed. When the cables are not connected, there are airtight caps to prevent air leakage. The pilot holes could be drilled in the CNC process, indeed!

Great question. All our stuff is super tight fitting, thanks to numerous design revisions during the development process. Now everything is extremely tight and there are no gaps! (Such as all the drivers etc)
Thanks for watching! That’s an easy one to answer… it’s the cable supplied by Hypex specifically for their N-Core amps. Not sure what the AWG is but it’s 2.5mm equivalent.
@@PresentDayProduction I suspect that the experts advise against this for marketing reasons. But just a guess on my part. Without the DSP adjustment it would still sound different from the mum-8. I still hope that this will happen one day. I wouldn’t do the name milling (Mum-8) for the flatpack, so that you can also clearly identify what is a flatpack kit and what is a MUM-8 purchased speaker from PDP.
@@PresentDayProduction if I had to give. advice, im a nobody , but from my view if you do a flatpack, dont do it on thise speakers yet, it dont make sense with all the work you have done, it could be added later if/when sales drop of a cliff, I would advise on the flatpack idea, If I may, I recon that you returned to your first idea, scrapped the mum drivers, went back to the dayton 100 rs reference series woofer (or newer version reference) and found a good tweeter and/or mid from same retailer chain, if I may suggests maby Peerless by Tymphany series mid and tweeter, or scanspeak tweeter and a plate amp from dayton like the Dayton Audio PPA800DSP or even run it all via one of dayton sub plate amps they have a range with dsp, iv seen that done for other DIY build 3 way speakers also, you could use Ncore smaller version, I have no idea how small you can go on power to run a 3way but imo 600 pr side for amps idea kinda ruined it alot, idk if the cheapest Ncore even viable, cause thats still too high, overall, I know this they are coming out with the new version very soon, hypex the Nilai (better version of Ncore, aka next step not that Ncore bad) , so maby price will change some , idk. the reason I say this is majority that want to not pay you guys to build this (and the added cost from tax ect ect), they usealy dont need this high end, complex build , and quality. ,they want a exciting project, get this hands dirty and not sell a kidney or a car to get it, and dont really need thise mum speakers overall quality. thats my toughts tho, so a flat pack on the mum, idont think is worth it when then its still over 2000 punds all in all, sound more of a hassel to me tbh, I could be wrong. the added benefit from using dayton or and peerless or scan, units is ppl can buy your ! design or ! your flatpack/ both unit recomendations combo and basic dsp and a manual and or some video help. that can then be sold From everywhere in the world to anywhere, cause your offsetting the load via part express/sound imports and others (and there's no storage, its a 1 time job, with added support after) and then they follow the steps you have in the added manual to dps the speaker or you give/ sent them a basic dsp via dropshop. and how to go from there, maby some videos like this on how to build ect ect. You guys have accomplished a lot! It's been something like 1 year since you announced the project? I'm going on 3 years on my product design project...and it is still less done than these speakers. I waited 4 months just to get my CNC router!
Great! Love them, the speakers of course. What did you think? But why have you not chamfered the inside of the front baffle for the woofer? It does good for the woofer.
He is talking about the inside-side of the baffle. When not chamfered, diffraction causes unwanted resonances internally, perhaps some of the problems you were trying to solve with the foam, were caused by that. Anyway, this looks to be a killer monitor. Keep up the good work.@@PresentDayProduction
@@PresentDayProduction Yes, that I see and it’s looking god. But I talked about the inside of the front baffle and only for the woofer. Let the woofer breath easier. As another DIYer talked about edge diffraction on the inside of the woofer. Maybe you can try it and see if there are any sound improvements or even show on a measurement? Love your work and joyful attitude.
Are the screws going directly into the ‘wood’? Or is there an insert? If insert I would be tempted to use loctite, purple so it’s just held lightly. If wood maybe a little bit of pva. It might not be an issue but should help prevent vibrations loosening off any of the fixings. @ 1:29:20

I've been constantly researching how I can build my own for cheaper and I'm saving myself £700 and I'm confident they will not be as well tunes as yours are. Plus will take a lot of work and will not have conversation and DSP . It's really an incredible idea. Since you suggested the ATC SCM 35's it's now impossible to find any and only the ATC SCM 40's are showing. Either the used passive ones become £500 less after a good enough amp included or the Active used ones being about £300 more than yours and are used with zero support after. It's really such a good deal that making them yourselves isn't really worth it, well flipping done!
Not full ones yet, there are basic specifications at the moment, and we are working on finding an independent organisation to provide complete impartial measurements. Data sheets for drivers and amps are available from the BlieSMa, Purifi and Hypex websites
Would be interested in the foam : how thick is it and if it’s not a secret from which company did you guys order it ? I search at the moment for a new diy kit some foam solutions and would love to compare it to the „traditional“ solutions.

It’s coming through in small quantities. We’ve had enough through now to be able to finish making all our existing orders for Be. But Stanislav is on the case and has only had to adjust the design of the T25B-6 which, fortunately for us, should require nothing more than a very slight DSP tweak
We are testing a transmission line loading that has been co-designed with an expert in TL enclosures. The upsides are lower and louder bass extension, but the main downside is size. These things need to be BIG! So we’re also testing a sealed enclosure alongside. We may have a winner, we may not, or we might offer both. It’s still early days for the sub!
@@PresentDayProduction I have a bit of a thing for transmission line speakers... but, not 100% sure it's the best for mixing... so I'll leave the verdict to yourselves. It's defiantly very good for a smooth audiophile effect, but if that's good for mixing or not. If you go with both I would be buying both. Making a Atmos setup be my stereo also and have 2 sealed under the left and right and 1 in the middle of the transmission style. I'm not worried about size... whatever best is best.
I absolutely hate foam. Long term (20 to 30 years), it is guaranteed to disintegrate and leave a sticky nasty mess covering everything surrounding it. I'd much prefer a solution that will remain stable for as long as the rest of the speaker (indefinitely).
That was a consideration (having had to remove sticky foam from inside the back of the keyboard assemblies of many, many Hammond tonewheel organs over the years - it reacts with the adhesive, turns caustic, and eats through the thousands of tiny contact wires) but we have been assured this will remain stable over many decades, and is friction fit, so easily replaceable in the future.
I was going to ask if you was going to use the PTT10.0X04-NAB-01's for your subs... will be magic if you do. How about so smaller boxes for the ceiling speakers for a Atmos setup? Already fantastic that the amps are separate, so you only have to run a Neutrik cable up and not power also, which makes it a lot easier, not to mention not having to change setting on the back of the speakers. I'm waiting on a big compensation claim to come through to finally build a reassemble studio. The Atmos set up will be more for production than mixing, but hoping mixing comes from it also. I'm inspired also to then start building my own speakers eventually via some hair brain ideas. Although, it's very clear that you are getting an incredible value through your speakers. In upgradability terms, would a ATC midrange driver fit, say if I came across a set of ATC monitors being broken down? or find a pair on the interweb say?
Thanks for watching! Yes, we have some PTT10 on order to test as subs - at this point I don’t want to use anything other than Purifi for the low end! The ATC SM75 won’t fit in the MUM-8 cabinet, and also needs mounting from the rear as the magnet is larger than the horn. To be honest with you, as much as I love ATC, and have done for decades, the BlieSMa mid driver beats it in just about every measurable aspect in its silk form, and takes that to a whole new level in its beryllium form. I wasn’t expecting to be switching from our ATC SCM200 to our own speaker for stereo mastering at the start of this journey - our speakers were designed to compliment the ATCs in an Atmos setup. But the truth is I have, and am now working entirely on the MUM-8. I can hear details I can’t on the ATC, and the ATC mid now seems to have a noticeable ‘honk’ to it that is entirely missing on the BlieSMa. Purifi and BlieSMa have basically taken what is possible with a transducer to a whole new level, and I proud to be working with them on this!
@@PresentDayProductionI was actually thinking this about the mid driver... so many companies doesn't use the best parts to make their speakers so really, there is no better value that you're own speakers. I've always though this when looking to make my own speakers in the past. I think I'm completely sold now. It'll be a bit until I can buy so there's plenty of time for the subwoofers to come into existence. Any possibility of custom speakers for Atmos celling speakers?... possible with the 4inch or 6inch Purifi woofers? The reason is any home Atmos system will have smaller speakers on the celling and will help with mixing levels. Not sure is the mid driver would be needed for them, but would want to have a 3 way, not sure about that. I see you have new colours also... possible for a custom for more? a very matt white I'd like

A stereo microscope can really help with SMD soldering. AmScope makes some reasonably priced stuff.
I used to use valcromat in 2010. It's not bad, but I've moved on composites and resins. Far better.

We use 24dB/Oct LR filtering, with the crossover at 500 and 3,500 Hz. The speakers operate from 26Hz - 22KHz.

You guys have accomplished a lot! It's been something like 1 year since you announced the project? I'm going on 3 years on my product design project...and it is still less done than these speakers. I waited 4 months just to get my CNC router!
Sounds like you need a deadline! Although we were fortunate in that a lot of stars aligned to make this happen. Oh, and a LOT of 15-18 hour days!

Great! Love them, the speakers of course. What did you think? But why have you not chamfered the inside of the front baffle for the woofer? It does good for the woofer.
The woofer sits flush with the front of the baffle
He is talking about the inside-side of the baffle. When not chamfered, diffraction causes unwanted resonances internally, perhaps some of the problems you were trying to solve with the foam, were caused by that.

@@PresentDayProduction Yes, that I see and it’s looking god. But I talked about the inside of the front baffle and only for the woofer. Let the woofer breath easier. As another DIYer talked about edge diffraction on the inside of the woofer. Maybe you can try it and see if there are any sound improvements or even show on a measurement? Love your work and joyful attitude.
Are the screws going directly into the ‘wood’? Or is there an insert?
If insert I would be tempted to use loctite, purple so it’s just held lightly. If wood maybe a little bit of pva.
It might not be an issue but should help prevent vibrations loosening off any of the fixings. @ 1:29:20

I've been constantly researching how I can build my own for cheaper and I'm saving myself £700 and I'm confident they will not be as well tunes as yours are.
Plus will take a lot of work and will not have conversation and DSP .
It's really an incredible idea.
Since you suggested the ATC SCM 35's it's now impossible to find any and only the ATC SCM 40's are showing.
Either the used passive ones become £500 less after a good enough amp included or the Active used ones being about £300 more than yours and are used with zero support after.
It's really such a good deal that making them yourselves isn't really worth it, well flipping done!

Not full ones yet, there are basic specifications at the moment, and we are working on finding an independent organisation to provide complete impartial measurements. Data sheets for drivers and amps are available from the BlieSMa, Purifi and Hypex websites
Would be interested in the foam : how thick is it and if it’s not a secret from which company did you guys order it ? I search at the moment for a new diy kit some foam solutions and would love to compare it to the „traditional“ solutions.

The extra hole is so the tweeter can be above the mid driver when the speakers are oriented in landscape position.

Is Bliesma still unable to get Be?
It’s coming through in small quantities. We’ve had enough through now to be able to finish making all our existing orders for Be. But Stanislav is on the case and has only had to adjust the design of the T25B-6 which, fortunately for us, should require nothing more than a very slight DSP tweak
How good is a transmission line for the subwoofer port when you get to being able to make a subwoofer eventually?
I know PMC used to use that type of the design back in the day... don't know if they still do
We are testing a transmission line loading that has been co-designed with an expert in TL enclosures. The upsides are lower and louder bass extension, but the main downside is size. These things need to be BIG! So we’re also testing a sealed enclosure alongside. We may have a winner, we may not, or we might offer both. It’s still early days for the sub!
@@PresentDayProduction I have a bit of a thing for transmission line speakers... but, not 100% sure it's the best for mixing... so I'll leave the verdict to yourselves.
It's defiantly very good for a smooth audiophile effect, but if that's good for mixing or not.
If you go with both I would be buying both.
Making a Atmos setup be my stereo also and have 2 sealed under the left and right and 1 in the middle of the transmission style.
I'm not worried about size... whatever best is best.
I absolutely hate foam. Long term (20 to 30 years), it is guaranteed to disintegrate and leave a sticky nasty mess covering everything surrounding it. I'd much prefer a solution that will remain stable for as long as the rest of the speaker (indefinitely).
That was a consideration (having had to remove sticky foam from inside the back of the keyboard assemblies of many, many Hammond tonewheel organs over the years - it reacts with the adhesive, turns caustic, and eats through the thousands of tiny contact wires) but we have been assured this will remain stable over many decades, and is friction fit, so easily replaceable in the future.

How about so smaller boxes for the ceiling speakers for a Atmos setup?
Already fantastic that the amps are separate, so you only have to run a Neutrik cable up and not power also, which makes it a lot easier, not to mention not having to change setting on the back of the speakers.
I'm waiting on a big compensation claim to come through to finally build a reassemble studio.
The Atmos set up will be more for production than mixing, but hoping mixing comes from it also.
I'm inspired also to then start building my own speakers eventually via some hair brain ideas.
Although, it's very clear that you are getting an incredible value through your speakers.
In upgradability terms, would a ATC midrange driver fit, say if I came across a set of ATC monitors being broken down? or find a pair on the interweb say?
Thanks for watching! Yes, we have some PTT10 on order to test as subs - at this point I don’t want to use anything other than Purifi for the low end!
The ATC SM75 won’t fit in the MUM-8 cabinet, and also needs mounting from the rear as the magnet is larger than the horn. To be honest with you, as much as I love ATC, and have done for decades, the BlieSMa mid driver beats it in just about every measurable aspect in its silk form, and takes that to a whole new level in its beryllium form. I wasn’t expecting to be switching from our ATC SCM200 to our own speaker for stereo mastering at the start of this journey - our speakers were designed to compliment the ATCs in an Atmos setup. But the truth is I have, and am now working entirely on the MUM-8. I can hear details I can’t on the ATC, and the ATC mid now seems to have a noticeable ‘honk’ to it that is entirely missing on the BlieSMa. Purifi and BlieSMa have basically taken what is possible with a transducer to a whole new level, and I proud to be working with them on this!

I've always though this when looking to make my own speakers in the past.

Any possibility of custom speakers for Atmos celling speakers?... possible with the 4inch or 6inch Purifi woofers?
The reason is any home Atmos system will have smaller speakers on the celling and will help with mixing levels.
Not sure is the mid driver would be needed for them, but would want to have a 3 way, not sure about that.
