  • In this video I review the TWO new keyboards I have purchased recently. The Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol A49 (midi controller) and the Yamaha P225B (digital piano.)
Why did I buy both? What is the difference between a MIDI controller and a digital piano? What factors went into my choosing these specific models?
In the end, the features that each keyboard had and didn't have varied, but I ended up choosing the models I did for my specific needs for each. Other keyboards will be better for other artists based on their specific needs. Whenever you are going to make a purchase, be careful to not fall into thinking about what the "best" model is. Instead, make sure it is going to be the best for you!
If you liked this video, I would really appreciate it if you interacted with it (like, comment, share) everything helps to get my content out to more musicians and producers.

Thanks for this review! I really like the typeface you use. What is the name of the font?

After spending weeks (many hours a day lately), months, and even years watching reviews of controllers, synths, samplers, etc, I found this video today that finally cut to the chase. I so agree with your comments on the urge, and seeming trend, to over-buy into a piece of equipment that just has too much going on with it. Something I have noticed in at least 90% of most ''reviews'' here on CZcams is the higher the product model it is or expense it is... the lower the, ummm, quality of content that is produced on it. I am somewhat old school in my musical methods, the analog kid in a way; 50 years old, trained in live and studio sound at the art institutes 1994-95 in Denver, Co., violin at SIUE 1978-1983 from age 4 to 10, switched to guitar 40+ years ago. I actually prefer to work methodically, track by track, as slow as necessary, separating individual components out without spending half of my brain power (and muse, interest duration, energy, etc) on keeping track of a ton of gear that each piece has a massive library of learning curves attached to. I have seen music, in general, go down in quality and creativity in a near directly proportional amount relative to the increase in capabilities of electronic gear. I am not a fundamentalist who demands to use analog tape and mixers but, hey, if I were I would be way more likely to produce interesting results than folks who rely upon the latest product blurb about how ''the latest features'' will magically make everything better. The nerds are killing us and music overall with their job security ''new features''.
I really appreciate your format in this video, the fact that you got right to it, and didn't hide that your preferences were all over it. So much of CZcams has no more ''You'' in it, most reviews are either product placements or desperate creators attempting to build their own brand and sub base, it comes off totally fake. That is getting so fn old. If a content creator here is looking to win me over I would much rather they focus on B-roll, go sit on a park bench outside with your dog to present anecdotal info, don't do that hipster douche-y studio lit room thing to create the perfect non-existent environment, that just makes me feel like the space I am physically in while watching the video is lacking, yuk, don't push me out, bruh, pull me in. I just want a controller with nice key feel, some aftertouch, weighted, expandable, something to sit between an MPC, an Oberheim, and a DAW, but that tendency to toss in a bunch of eye candy is all over the models that have realistic feeling keys because of price and their fears of not making the sale. No one gets it, the people with real money to spend, and that have real world usages, don't need ''sold'' on gadgets and gimmicks. Give us the real goods and keep all of those perky nonsense items for the kids who know nothing that believe the gear can do it for them.
