It's honestly surprising to see that your trades mostly come in letters. In my country, it's more common to send in boxes (yes even domestic trades) with the photocards in a plastic sleeve sandwiched between cardboard and wrapped in bubble wrap, which sounds completely overboard but the post is just that bad and can't be trusted.
