    Hi, we here have these marketed as Terhi (in Finland) or Tern when exported. I have a 3hp motor and a 5 hp, the smaller is eventually a Tecumseh AV520-624 or rather T624 as it's from the 60ies, may be even 1967. This bigger is a mix of Mahle and some parts made hereabout. Just few minutes ago I succeed in starting the 3 hp, quite a sweaty procedure... Maybe something or a lot wrong with its carburetor. Homemade pump flaps maybe ok, but that little rubber tube inside the carb. is closer to 50yrs old´, and not doing its work perfectly. This is so old that it still has old fashioned points. I added an ign.chip meant for some John Deere little thing and a flip-flop switch to use either points or this, well, "pointless" system. They both work, but not helping much to get the engine running well or even starting easily. The easiest way to start is with a cordless drill from its flywheel nut... Better to have oars onboard when boating with this.

      Thank you for sharing this information. I'm surprised that this outboard motor was exported to Europe.

      @@BoatMotors Yes, Tecumseh, or the company behind, must have had very good salesman those days for they’ve sold so many to this god’s forsaken place 😊
      Here these T624s (or Terhi 3s) are known for being the most unreliable outboard engines; a common joke was that Terhi 3 takes you off the shore and oars take you back, something like that. Eg. I bought mine for a dark roasted coffee pack of 500g, maybe worth 5-6 EUR, just two months ago. This had fried its ign.coil’s secondary winding, and lost the main valve assy. The ignition coil was an easy part as you can find pretty cheap Chinese coils fitting well, but the carburettor is a pia, all original nuts and bolts are in imperial dims, and Aliexpress-spares are metric.
      As told I got this running somehow but for now it’s better to keep it in the garage.

    i can't even get mine to fire at all. it sat for like nine years. I tried to start it in 2017 and failed, and just tried again. I suppose the carburetor is all gummed up or something terrible. I'm broke for the first time in 15 years so I'd really like to get this POS working because I certainly can't buy a better motor

      @@barnacleburrito3728 of course man I just started digging into my little 7.5 and as long you take pictures it’s not that complicated to put back. I might try making a video and posting it of me putting it back together. What hp and brand do you got?

      mine is a Sears Ted Williams 4.5hp, but unlike most of them mine doesn't have the white top, it a just green like the bottom half. Anyway, I didn't expect that I would be forced by circumstances to leave the project for later, so I failed to take pics and left all of the fasteners & everything disassembled together with all the pieces of the weedeater I had also taken apart lol (facepalm)
      anyway if you were to make such a video that would be pretty dang handy! But please don't feel obligated

  • @Chanselleur
    @Chanselleur Před 11 měsíci +1

    Yes… Says he is use the same type of carburetor that uses pole station of pressure from the crank case to push a plastic diaphragm in and out like a button being matched hundreds of times over that’s what they call a “fuel pump“ for a two-stroke… What a nightmare… I really hope you can get carburetors for this cheap or maybe put a four stroke push mower engine on the shaft
    Of course, it still weighs less than a deep cycle battery and a trolling motor. That’s the only reason I would use this instead of an electric trolling motor for propulsion.
