Trungpa was fantastic. He is still teaching me to this day! Lamas really do dance and one life, time and place is no hindrance or limitation.

WOW! AMAZING STORY!
You judge a lama by his students. Some of his students i met are so humble and amazing dharma practitioners. Given cultural climate of America at that time. He was the perfect lama for that era and he is one of the main reasons why Tibetan dharma is very much alive.
I bet if that teacher had done these things in this era he'd be in jail, like that film maker I don't remember his name.
It is true that unlike many Buddhists I know , trungpa was not a proselytist.
He was really interested in what he surrounded, that's how he managed to teach westerners.

@@gyurmethlodroe1774 I have been in the world of Buddhism for 30 years, sorry but I encountered some form of hatred and barely hidden proselytism during my stay in a kadampa institute. As for Christians, there are also all kinds. This kind of generality is worthless. An exemple, because I know Kalu Rinpoche personally...; Do you know that when he was a young monk, he received death threats in his monastery because he did not want to do everything that was asked of him?
I think that you know nothing about it. This world and its clerical culture goes far beyond proselytism, it is a dictatorial system.

Trungpa himself talked about the concept of spiritual materialism versus humility. So much of the trappings of any “religion” is at best a distraction, a craving for status, a strengthening of pride, However camouflaged. Spirituality is a personal thing that’s easily swayed by societal expectations and/or charismatic people

Absolutely and i think the d lama is not even aware of it.(which is worrying for a llama who is supposed to be "connected" with Western culture ...)

If you realize clearly who he is, it is as if you met your own father on a busy street. There is no need to ask anyone whether or not your recognition is true.
Do not fight with another’s bow and arrow.
Do not ride another’s horse.
Do not discuss another’s faults.
Do not interfere with another’s work.
Unless you recognize there's victims involved that need acknowledgement and protection in order to heal. Interference with anothers work is sometimes necessary. Plenty of examples in history to provide contextual examples...

@@divine-wind That is all nice on an intellectual level, but condones abuse in the worldly realm, I think it is wrong to confuse the pragmatic and spiritual world and we should connect them both by skilful means. What I am trying to point out is that we live in a world in which we can mean something for others that were harmed in the past. By real actions, by real 'teachers', in a real past. The precepts aren't there for nothing! Violence and abuse should never be condoned, especially not by excusing yourself by looking the other way because 'you are focussing on your own enlightenment'. To me, that's just cowardice disguised as spirituality.

Definitely something needs to be done so things like that do not happen again.
Saying that, the world is full of endless greed, hate and delusion.
So focus on your own practice not others practice. Focus on what the teachings are trying to lead you to(hint Nirvana), not on who is right wrong, good or bad.
Forget about Shakyamuni Buddah and all the teachers and instead become Buddah it self.
Anyways if you think I'm selfish that's fine. I think you seem like a good selfless person and are trying to do the right thing.

All the same, Trungpa may have been a great teacher, but as a human being, he was little better than Sogyal rinpoche.
We at the Rubin are saddened to learn of sexual assault and misconduct allegations in the Shambhala Buddhist and other Buddhist practice communities. We extend ourselves and our space to all who are suffering and saddened by these allegations as well.
Trungpa, a lot of the time, wanted people to stand up and call him out for bullshit. Americans, unlike many British people, just aren't very good at that, they're often submissive to any perceived authority, and so they took it all as gospel.
In in terms of achievement these two were not comparable.
Sogyal met trungpa and he was fascinated by him and not the other way around.
At that time, Sogyal was warned "we do not imitate a lion of Dharma".
He may not have understood at the time.
The work of trungpa is situated far beyond what Sogyal accomplished.

His teachings are of interest beyond his own life.
It touched generations not so "crazy" and much more "politically correct" or current. (compared to the 70s)
i so appreciate her forthrightness with only barest understanding how much it may have cost her to stand up and speak out and she has such equanimity about it and grace.

The thing is; many problems ocurred with young tulkus in India, because they were not always easy for the monasteries to 'contain'. Tulku energy is very very powerful. Lifetimes of meditation. So if it goes awry, it's not an ordinary derailment. It's a much stronger derailment. If what Jetsunma is saying is correct; that CT Rinpoche was pretending to be "a pure monk never tempted till now", then as you can see, he had already entered into pathological lying. The SINGLE MOST EXTRAORDINARY lesson that we learn here; is that even as a high level reincarnate bodhisattva, the karma of the protection can 'run out'. This is why one can never make too much merit. We are NEVER out of the woods until we attain the final goal.
