What happened with the saw at 2:27 ?

That's because an automatic mode that's detecting the diameter and only cuts this far. It's saving time because the saw doesn't have to be fully extended when you've got a thin piece of wood. It can happen that the diameter of the actual log is greater than what the system has detected.
