Gotta say, the last of the classic sprite work here from KOF XI has some of the nicest and best animations a lot of times, like the movements of Momoko's idle animation, the way Oswald moves his hands in his, or the swaying of Athena's skirt in her school uniform look, as well as the dancing flow of Duck's animations too. You can just feel SNK was going for broke here in what coulda possibly been the last KOF game ever.
Crazy how the 3D backgrounds here and even in Neo Geo Battle Coliseum look way better than the 3D in KoF 14 and 15. I wonder why they didn't use these kinds of colors for the current KoFs. Basically all 3D backgrounds they did in this Era and before smokes the current kofs.
SNK was already broke yet they still put so much effort into making new animations or making already existing animations better in their pre XIII games
Not a fan of 2003, but but KOFXI was actually enjoyable to play. I like that in this one, SNK wasn't afraid to use bright colors on character select screen and UI. It was refreshing to see, and the gameplay was nicely polished.
KOF XI was one Top 5 KOF games for a number of reasons...firstly it has a number of characters fairly unique to it. Secondly i love the boss characters Shion and Magaki even if they are really hard. Also the sheer number of characters in this superior to lot of of other KOF games. Top 5: KOF 97, KOF XI, KOF XIII, KOF XIV, KOF 2002 Unlimited Match

What's funny is how Shiki from Samurai Shodown has a super move similar to Hotaru's in NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, but her super ends up healing her unlike Hotaru.

After the last game of the old Snk, Kof 00, i think the devs that worked on the later games - and also the reformed Snk in 03 - started taking more inspiration from the Cvs style of making supers... Very fast/short and straightfoward. Capcom made all supers that way in Cvs. We can see that inspiration present and strong in Ngbc and Samsho 6 too. Fortunately that tendency reduced by the time of Kof Xii/Xiii.

Damn, i never noticed until recently, but these sprites do look super outdated compared to the stuff that was already out there in 2005. A lot of the sprites hadn't changed AT ALL for about 6 years or so. And even in 99, a lot of the sprites had already looked dated. It's not the sprites themselves in a way, but the fact that they were done in a super low resolution. The amount of pixels used was very low.
I remember playing this in Austin, TX at a local place called Eintein's or something along those lines. I was going to a community college back then and after classes I would go and play some KOF. There were some other games, such as Guilty Gear XX. Then Guildety Gear AC was brought. I played at this arcade place during 2006-2008. Then, the place was shutdown and somebody else opened up Arcade UFO and brought japanese cabinets. It was already 2009, I think. By then I had grown sick of the fighting games. Nonetheless, I remember these times.

We got an Orochi Collection for PS4 last month, something tells me we're getting a NESTS Collection and a Tales of Ash Collection in the future.
So far only Orochi Collection/94, 95, 96, 97 and 98 individually, 97 global match, 98 ultimate match, and 2000 you can buy on PS4 ☹️

I had this game on my ps2 but there are stages that i don't remember, like the big wheel, the stadium or the launch site. Is there two versions?
You'd need to switch the system option to Arranged in order to see those exclusive stages during Arcade or VS mode.
