    ‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣ THIS EPISODE ‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣
Once again, we were unexpectedly surprised by another National Park. On our continued trip across the US to meet our newest niece in Texas and get to the Lippert Getaway in Georgia, we had one last park to see for the first time: White Sands National Park.
Similar to our time at Petrified Forest in our last video: • ON THE ROAD TOO LONG |... , we only had a short period of time and were again thrilled with what we could do in just a few hours and with the RV still attached!
Before leaving that morning, Jess made smoothies and stored them in the freezer to be enjoyed when we arrived. Below is our favorite smoothie recipe:
    FOS Smoothie Recipe
    1 banana
    1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
    3/4 cup frozen strawberries
    1/2 cup frozen raspberries
    1/3 cup frozen blueberries
Handful of baby spinach/1/4 cup frozen spinach
1 scoop Better Body Foods Organic Superfood Blend (found at Walmart)
Splash of milk (whichever you prefer)
Blend until smooth in blender and enjoy!
This experience has once again reminded us of the importance of taking time as a family to enjoy a new place or adventure together. To wander and explore without plan or specific purpose except that of sharing it with each other. How can you create moments like that for your family this week?
Stay tuned for next week as we do something to the RV we have never done before at the Lippert Getaway in Georgia! Be sure to like and subscribe and click on the bell icon for notifications when we release new videos!

You stayed on top because it was wet, when it's 95 and the sand is dry you definitely sink in quite a bit when you're walking up, though walking on top isn't so bad.

@@robertmcdonald9280 I went to see it sitting on the 747 ready to go back to Florida. What a sight. Whenever it landed I. California, we would see it landing in Ft Bliss for fuel. I lived at WSMR for 4 years, then we moved to Cruces when I was 7. I’m 52. Stayed there until I was 23. I remember sleeping on the sand when there was a full moon. Amazing place.

Glad you didn't break the leaf spring when you were by white sands, that's the only part of the country where I've been very happy to have extra fuel in the bed of the truck, one closed gas station and you can be stranded, I can't even imagine where you'd find a replacement spring pack (probably have it overnighted at incredible expense to whatever mechanic you could find).

  • @sandyoklahomatransient8557

That was gypsum, not sand therefore, no salt to worry about in White Sands National Park. I wish it hadn't rained because it's prettier dry. The clouds, and overcast made it cooler in White Sands National Park. If the direct sun was out it would of been hot. You were right about the other side being the missile range. They're wild horses on the Oscura part of the range but omly the military is allowed to access this area. You can get beautiful sunsets, and stargazing at the park. They stay open late on full moon nights.
Please tell me you stopped an had authentic Mexican food with Hatch green chiles. 😊
Hope you were able to get the underside of your rig fixed in time with your travel schedule.

My dad was stationed at Holloman AFB right there by White Sands and I graduated high school from Alamogordo. Haven’t been back in many a moon but want to get my kids to white sands at some point. Tough luck on the leaf spring. Maybe time to carry an extra leaf pack around with you. That will probably ensure you never need one again!

Carlsbad Caverns is a national treasure. You really should come back. The Bat Flight is amazing but typically runs from around Memorial Day to Labor Day. Maybe a little bit on either side but it is the temperature that really moves the bats. Me and some friends did the left hand tour pre Covid and that was amazing. We went into the portion of the cave with a guide using only candle lanterns as was done in the early days. Amazing.
I don't know if they have started those kind of tours up again yet but look online when you come back.

Looks like y'all had a great time at White Sands. If you had taken US 82 east up the mountain to Cloudcroft, you could see the dunes all spread out on the Tularosa Valley floor (if the clouds had cleared). Sorry to hear about another broken spring pack. The ones y'all bought in Upstate New York were a real bargain!

White Sands is very blinding in full sun. Yes, from what I remember from being there in July 1987 while visiting with my brother who was stationed at Ft. Bliiss, the dunes are hard packed. Bummer about the leaf pack. Hopefully, you can have Lippert get you the rest of the leaf packs for the meetup and have them changed there.

Just North of Kanab, Utah before you get to the turn off to go towards Zion, there's a Utah State Park called Pink Coral Sands State Park, very similar to White Sands National Park, except, of course the sand is pink because of the high iron content.

Since you're replacing your spring pack, make a small investment by adding a "wet bolt" upgrade kit. The suspension bushings and bolts will last longer as a result of being able to accept grease; it's one of the least expensive and best things you can do for your suspension and piece of mind.

Carlsbad caverns is a hard one for me to hit right, I was there at the end of June in 2021 and the day I hit town so did a storm. That storm flooded the river and they closed the 2 bridges leading southwest out of town but we had heard they were going to do that and jumped over to the side we needed to be on and got a hotel. The next morning we found out that tours were cancelled because of flooding in the caverns, curses foiled again... You know those leaf springs look virtually worthless except to keep the wheels pointing the right way they don't provide much give before they reach yield point, any chance you can add a bump stop to that setup ? That might be the only way to keep that from continuing to be a problem.
