  • Hello, guis! This is Mel Rose and Welcome back to my CZcams Channel. 🫢😁 For today’s video is about my experience at the Dungeon of Fort Santiago at Intramuros. 😇 I know that my videos are not that good, KINAKABAHAN kasi ako. Also, it’s my first time again to enter a tunnel plus this tunnel holds the grief, sadness, and deaths of Filipinos who suffered aprocities by the Japanese forces in the Battle of Manila in 1945. But, I’m lucky to enter and feel their sacrifices in the tunnel! 🫡
THE WHITE CROSS (IN MEMORY OF THE VICTIMS AT FORT SANTIAGO) - On this site lie the mortal remains if approximately 600 Filipinos. Their bodies were found inside a nearby dungeon where victims of the atrocities perpetrated by the Japanese Imperial forces were imprisoned during the last days of February 1945. The memory of this unknown victims of Japanese atrocities will live forever in the hearts and minds of the Filipino people.
THE DUNGEON OF FORT SANTIAGO - The dungeons of Fort Santiago are among the many chambers located in and around the Baluarte de Santa Barbara and the now destroyed Casa del Castellano. The dungeon were originally built in 1599 as the powder magazine of the fort. However, damp conditions in the chambers led to the transfer of the magazine to the Baluarte de Santa Barbara. The dungeons served as a prison for dissidents and enemies of the state during the Spanish colonization and was last used as such during the Japanese occupation. After the BATTLE OF MANILA in 1945, layers upon layers of dead bodies amounting to about 600 prisoners were found locked inside the dungeon and left by the Japanese to suffer starvation and suffocation. These victims were given proper burial besides the dungeons in a mass grave marked by a white marble cross.
P.S. Its fun to learn our history! Don’t forget to thank them who sacrifice their life for our freedom. 🇵🇭😇
