Neil deserves all the medals.
Metals?
@@Marin3r101 quit your meddling!
Especially the Neilbel Prize
I'm imagining a bunch of medals that couldn't even be applicable to him but he wins anyway. Like a medal for public speaking.
For igniting all the metals
Neil's acceptance speech was exactly what I expected it to be. 😅
But seriously, such recognition from _the_ Royal Society is well and truly earned and I'm glad we get to see it.
I read your comment before watching that part of the video. Thanks for the laughs.
@@Jerome... Exactly.
Seriously recognising the backroom people is a wonderful move
I genuinely wonder if his voicemailbox is just silence...
I knew that Neil wouldn't make a speech from your comment.
Never was so much said with so few words......
Congratulations Neil. A well deserved award.
his single breasted formal suit is also flame retardant. Probably.
Neil the hero we wanted and the hero we need.
I wondered if we'd get a voice reveal but Neil keeps his secrets.
The only noise Neil makes is explosions.
..... reminds me of " Penn and Teller "
..... " Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff and Neil "
Haha, I think there are a few periodic videos where Neil speaks a few words.
Isn't just the first five or six where he talks?
@@bertblankenstein3738 so he's more like Silent Bob than Teller...
The assistant is usually a thankless job, but it's nice to see excellence rewarded. Congratulations.
If you as an assistant work in a lab where that is a thankless job, change workplace. In all labs I've worked at, the assistants are always the heart of the lab. They've usually been there much longer (researchers come and go), know all the other people in the building, know exactly in which cupboard that one exotic apparatus that no one has used since 1977 is etc. A chemist cannot thank these people enough.
Neil is a great guy! No one can obtain liquid oxygen better than this man.
Neil deserves this, the unsung hero behind so many generations of excellent students the Prof has taught, and who has done all the background work to make all the demonstrations a success, and a valuable teaching aide.
No longer unsung, I guess :D
As a chemical lab tech myself, I congratulate Neil for this well deserved honor.
As a PhD student: shoutout to all you technicians. Thank you for making our lives so much easier.
Glad that Neil got this much-deserved honor, and we could see the Professor in full hair halo mode
Congratulations Neil you deserve this award and so much more you all are brilliant thanks for sharing with us some of your great talent
Thank you for sharing in Neil's brilliance with us, Scrotie.
He is an inspiration to Lab Techs all over the globe. What a wonderful acknowledgement of his work, it is well deserved.
YAY!!! Neil is the kind of guy who gets things done and helps everyone. He makes almost every demonstration possible on this channel and has aided in my understanding of chemistry. There are many like Neil around the world, behind the scenes, making the world a better place through science! Congrats!
Congratulations Neil! That's great to see technicians getting recognized for their hard work, as they're often out of sight and out of mind.
Haha, I was hoping for a speech, but as always, Neil's actions speak louder than words!
Congrats Neil! You could tell he really appreciated it, and he deserves it every bit!
What an honour for the Hauksbee Award to receive Neil Barnes as its first recipient!
The people who build the tools that make these experiments possible are nearly always forgotten. Glad this now exists.
Watching Neil work has been a very enjoyable privilege.
Congratulations Neil, well deserved. Not all heroes wears a cape you know, sometime a labcoat will do just fine.
But I feel like he could be awesome in a cape anyway. Maybe with a tophat.
Hurray for Neil! I teared up a little watching this
Where would anyone be without the assistants? Congratulations Neil. I know everyone who has been watching these videos is happy to see you get the recognition that you rightly deserve.
Oh my gosh amazing! The man really deserved it! So happy seeing this! Amazing to recognise the technicians! Congrats Neil!
About time Neil was recognized for something we all knew.
Recognition of Excellence sometimes takes its old sweet time. Its about time . Congrats Neil.
Congratulations Neil!
Keep inspiring the future generations of Scientists!
Finally, the Stig of Periodic Videos received the reward he deserved.
Well deserved. The viewers are unanimous in this. Edit: You look great in the suit!
Greatest cross-over episode of all time. Congratulations to Neil!
I think its great that lab technicians get a chance to be recognized, congratulations Neil
Glad to see Periodic Videos-beloved Neil recognised, as well as the whole field of science assistant and technicians getting a bit of spotlight.
An inaugural award, that is amazing! And I can't think of anyone who deserves it better.
Which is why the award is so important. There probably are more deserving recipients - but (almost) nobody even knows they exist. It's going to be interesting to learn about other recipients in years to come, as the light is shone on the technicians and engineers that are the foundation on which almost every scientific discovery is built.
@@dav1dsm1th Excellent point.
@@tarmaque Thanks. That means a lot coming from someone who's watched C-beams glitter near the Tannhäuser Gate. Hopefully it's not raining where you are.
@@dav1dsm1th Ha-ha! It's actually snowing. But "tears in snow" doesn't quite work, does it.
Congratulations Neil, you earned it.
Congratulations Neil, well deserved recognition
Congratulations Neil, a well deserved award for all your hard work. 👏👏👏👏
As a chemistry lab technician for over 30 years at University of Sydney let me offer my heartiest congratulations to Neil for this honour. I am now retired so Neil's long tenure is in no danger of being eclipsed by me.
We get to actually DO all the fun stuff that brings people into Chemistry.
However the greatest joy of our work are the minds we help to mature in their professional capacity. I am sure Neil can look back on many he has assisted/guided over the years.
I know that I can.
Excellently said!
Congratulations Neil, a very well deserved award
Congratulations, Neil!!! You have a ton of fans out here! Thanks for all the great technician stuff!!
Congratulations on the award Neil.
Neil, Congratulations! Also, I have to say that it was a pleasant shock to see you smile! Usually you are smiling or chuckling as some experiment goes far to well!
Congratulations Neil. Well deserved for everything you’ve done behind the scenes.
Congrats Neil!
Respect to Neil for helping this channel thrive in all the work he does
This is a genuine joy. Both for Neil and for those that will folliw him.
My dearest congratulations Neil! You deserve this one thousand fold. Without you there wouldn’t be Periodic Videos 🎉 ❤
Congrats, Neil!
I remember your laugh when The Professor inhaled helium.
This part of YT is really genuine and inspirational.
Neil is awesome, this is a most deserving award, congratulations
You could really tell how touched he was. That is so sweet! Good for Neil!
I must say, Neil scrubs up well :) A well deserved medal. Congratulations!!
This made me immensely happy. Well done and well deserved, Neil!
Congratulations Neil, very well deserved medal!
Millions of fans, not thousands. Congratulations, Neil!
If there was someone who deserves more recognition, it's Niel.
Congratulations, Niel!
Congratulations Neil. Well deserved.
Well deserved. Congratulations, Neil.
Congratulations Neil! Very deserved! Thank you for bringing the science to all of us!
Fantastic. Congratulations Neil!
Congratulations Neil, well deserved 👏
It's awesome when someone who works behind the scenes making it all possible gets recognized.
Well deserved, congrats Neil !
Congratulations Mr. Barnes, Well deserved! 3 Cheers for our brother in science!
Congratulations Neil!
Love seeing Neil for years on these videos, and love seeing technicians like him being recognized!
This is amazing, congratulations, Neil! ❤️
Definitely deserving of an award. also amazing that it took until 2022 for lab technicians to be recognised in this way.
IKR. Took them several hundred years.
Been watching these videos for years. Well deserved. Congratulations Neil! 🎉
Congratulations Neil! If you build it, they will film it.
Congratulations Neil! Well deserved. Technicians help turn ideas into reality.
Most heartfelt congratulations Neil! I have “known” you ever since we were able to view the BBC in The Netherlands. The Christmas lectures were always a favourite in the late 80s, early 90s. I can’t remember any of the professors, but I recall you always being there. And then seeing you again when I discovered this wonderful YT channel. Thank you.
Well deserved! Congrats Neil!
Well done Neil, your medal is thoroughly deserved. It is fantastic to see somebody who acts behind the scenes get recognised at last. Plus, being the first recipient means that your name will be at the top of the table forever!
Very well deserved, congratulations Neil! Best wishes from your fans from all around the world including here in central Australia!
Well deserved, congrats!
Congratulations to Neil, getting recognition for a very important job.
Congrats!!
Hurray for Neil! An award well deserved for outstanding work.
Congratulations to Neil!
I also think Brady needs some official recognition from the Royal Society. Aside from the varied and excellent channels he runs, he has catapulted so many others into the spotlight, which has resulted in increased awareness of their work, precipitated new avenues of success, and have presumably led to people like Neil receiving recognition that they might not have otherwise received.
Brady, all his guests, and his channels are CZcams gems.
(This is not meant to steal glory from Neil in his video.)
It's wonderful that Neil is being recognized for all his behind-the-scenes hard work that only millions of people on CZcams get to see. 😉
We’ll done Neil! Good to see service and dedication rewarded!
Brilliant! Very well deserved for someone who is such a credit to the field. Congratulations!
Warms my heart. Congrats, well deserved!
Congratulations Neil. You supported me from 1986 to 1990 during my graduate studies.
in the name of the legions of people who do actual hands on work without ever getting any recognition at all, congratulations, Neil, and thank you!
It's a very strange formal labcoat Neil is wearing in this video 😉
But seriously, congratulations on the well deserved award, Neil!
Wasn't expecting to have such an emotional reaction to watching this. Fantastic for Neil and the work he has performed over the decades to be recognised in this way.
Well deserved, congratulations Neil! :)
No-one deserves that medal more than Neil Barnes! 👍😊
Congratulations to our favorite Chemical Stig!
Congratulations to Neil !
Only "thousands of fans?" I'd say a third of the enjoyment of this channel comes from his demonstrations and experiments, so I'd say that Neil was way undersold!
Many congratulations Neil. Thoroughly deserved.
As a scientist in the corporate space I love to see this recognition. It takes a village to innovate and dedicated techs keep the wheels greased. ❤
Very much deserved, although it should be said that Neil has already had more than average valorisation through being featured in so many videos. Many other experimentalists and lab support staff go insufficiently recognized!
But to be clear, very much deserved and best wishes to the chemistry department of Nottingham university and Neil in particular!
It's great to see the techs getting some love
Congratulations Neil! I think the phrase "shoulders of giants" was meant to refer to famous names from history, but I'd like to apply it to "behind the scenes" work as well.
Awesome award and well deserved! Thank you for being there for us and giving us so much knowledge!
Thank you sir for your contribution and helping students of chemistry
Excellent news and well deserved.
This award is so important. Engineers and Doctors wouldn't be able to work efficiently, or at all, without the work of technicians. The recognition of that collective effort is a real milestone, and who else but Neil could have been chosen as first recipient of the award :)
Congratulations Neil! ⚗️🧪
Congratulations Neil. I remember our chief technician at welcome research back in the eighties. He was a fount of knowledge and very kind. I'm so glad your work is being recognised.
