  • Here is my most recent trombone overhaul in the Scratch Brushed and lacquer finish. Dec 2023
This is a process video, not a teaching video, but some learning may be had along the way for technicians unfamiliar with overhauling brass horns. I will discuss costs and turn around times with serious inquiries only.

Thanks 👍 Earl. I keep doing these. Honestly, I wish I was able to just do restoration work, but there are less dramatic repairs that must be done too. Like gigs I guess.

The brand is Egyptian. They are located in Tennessee.

I love it! I was thinking on trying to give my trombone that same type of finish, but I'm afraid that because of the climate conditions from my country (which is very humid) may affect this finish on the horn and generate some kind of black patches on it.
What would you recommend to me?
Should I go with a satin finish instead? I have a Bach 42 modified with a Hagmann valve and reversed tunning slide.

The finish coice is p to you. Lacquering it, however, is a bit of an issue if really humid. It may hold moisture and be cloudy looking. Black patches are typically caused by impurities left on the metal or improper decreasing. Get a hold
Of an old beat up bell or cheap horn and try it first. Try spraying the finish during dry season. Like in Thailand, I wouldn't be Lacquering in June thru Oct. I know. I lived there. Even worse in the Southern part.
