  • Mike Oldfield's brilliant Tubular Bells album, released in 1973 was pure music genius in mine and many others opinions. The intro to part 1 was especially a favorite of mine and others.
Tubular Bells is the debut studio album by English multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter Mike Oldfield, released on 25 May 1973 as the first album on Virgin Records. Oldfield, then 19 years old, played almost all the instruments on the mostly instrumental album. The album initially sold slowly, but gained worldwide attention in December 1973 when its opening theme was used for the soundtrack to the horror film The Exorcist (1973). This led to a surge in sales which increased Oldfield's profile and played an important part in the growth of the Virgin Group. It stayed in the top ten of the UK Albums Chart for one year from March 1974, during which it reached number one for one week. It peaked at number three on the US Billboard 200, and reached the top position in Canada and Australia. The album has sold over 2.7 million copies in the UK and an estimated 15 million worldwide.
I did this arrangement on the Roland System 8 and multitracked to Cubase 10 Pro. I tried my best to stay true to the original 1973 version and the System 8 was the perfect choice for the task.
As usual, THANK YOU for viewing my channel. PLEASE subscribe if you already have not so you can be informed when I release new material here (I try for at least 2 per month... or more when time allows). A "LIKE" is also most appreciated. :)

This is the best cover of Tubular Bells. Amazing!
Also the 'b' side of that lp Tubular Bells (1) is amazing, especially the first big calm movement.
Can you make a synthesizer cover of this part as well?

Sounds kinda like a large army of space soldiers are losing a war, and there's no sound because they're in space. And it's just everyone firing at each other, as the losing team is being *_Terminated,_* and one marine rises up, and begins to cause the forces of the winning team to fall back.

Really love your work with the System 8. Id love to hear its FM sounds next to an OB6’s analog pad.

OMG, I just realized that my subwoofer settings were tweaked and now my bass isn't exactly where I wanted it. D'oh! What to you all think? It sounds great on a large system, but on my laptop the bass is a bit low, muddy, and lacking in mid-highs. Maybe I'm over-thinking it. I'm a composer and not a recording engineer. :)

I didn't notice anything wrong or think about it until I read your comment. ;-) I think it generally sounds good, maybe a touch to hot/forward in the mix? It's a very rounded smooth bass sound so, maybe you intended more high end or bite to it but over all it's fine as is IMHO. I'm listening on Yamaha MSP3 monitors.

Here I was thinking - this has powerful bass! But then my system has 4 x 12" drivers

@@JohnLRice Yeah, I was probably being overly-critical, but in hindsight I would have doubled my bass track, but with the double track one octave up as to give a little more snap to the bass with some mid frequencies. Thank you very much for that feedback. :)

@@kenstone9458 Yes, on my Focal Twins with Sub it sound fantastic, but just not as nice on my tiny laptop speakers. The bass is perfectly balanced. It's your laptop speakers that are probably weak in the bass (like most of them are anyway).

      Tubular Bellsは、当時の多くの音響機器や電気機器のショーケースとして使用されていました。 残念ながら、ポリシンセはまだ存在していませんでしたが、もしそれらがあれば、彼はそれらを使用していたと確信しています。
(Tubular Bells was meant as a showcase of many acoustical and electrical instruments, back in the day. Unfortunately, polysynths did not exist yet, but I'm sure that if they had he would have used them.)

In 1973, I was 8 and was playing a Magnus Electric Wind organ... But at least it could play more than one note at a time. lol !
