Toriel may be one of the sweetest characters in a videogame, and our surrogate mother within Undertale, though even she has a few secrets! For example... what's really inside the room that's 'under rennovations' within her home?
Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to make a particularly long video this week... though hopefully you'll find my observations to be interesting nonetheless 8)

Basher Theories There are two beds because that wasn't Asgores bedroom. When you click on both of the beds one says "His Bed" ad the other says "my bed". That room was Chara and Asriel's room. Since apparently you're not playing as frisk but as Chara, That bed says my bed because chara once slept in it. "His Bed" Is Asriel's bed.

I always thought Asgore's house was tinted grey simply due to the area losing the spark it once had. Instead of being a colorful home full of love, it fell to a former shell of what it once was after the events that occurred. It always reminded me of people in stories who they say can't see color because their outlook on life has become dark, dreary, and overall apathetic. It was interesting hearing someone describing it at face value though because truthfully it could very well just be those shades of paints - whether intentionally on Asgore's part or just an artistic choice without deeper meaning. I can't remember if anything mentions it in the game, but then again, it has been a while. Regardless though, I enjoyed the video! Cheers!

I agree, actually! That's along the lines of what I first thought-though the whole capital is composed of shades of white (or grey?), so I guess it could be either or! Maybe after painting the ruins Dreemurr purple the royal family realised how garish it looked and decided not to make the same mistake with New Home, hehe.

I always figured it was chara's restroom, since humans digest food, and monsters don't.
When Chara was down ther ethey ate monster food which converts straight to energy so they wouldnt need to monsters do digest but only human fod i believe
After she expelled the last of human food, she got a perfect pooper.
Pretty sure the way it works that way is magical food. If humans ate magical food it wouldn’t go all the way through them, and on the other hand, if monsters ate human food they’d probably have to go to the bathroom.

In Toriel's house the door is the entrance to the homestuck world and the door in Asgore's home is the exit door. We all know Toby Fox and Andrew Hussie are good friends so why not? I have a more serious theory about this but it would include some Homestuck spoilers.

I find it weird that they have seperate rooms, if you listen to the tapes in the true lab you find one where Toriel and Asgore are sleeping in bed, Toriel gets a camera and tells mom puns to Asgore.. which means they are most likely sleeping in the same bed.

Karl_20165 Antonio That is true but there is one key factor that might have been missed. Why would the dreamurrs have two houses in the underground? I mean that I know that Toriel went away from Asgore because of problems and went to live in the ruins, but how was the house made if they lived together at the capital? The world may never know.

i think because they WERE gonna move to New Home but when Asgore killed a human Toriel was disgusted by his actions and left him and lived in their old home: The Ruins

They definitely lived together in New Home because there are two children's beds in New Home, one for Chara and one for Asriel.
the locked room is asgore's room.They broke up and because of that the room is locked.
Its the opposite in New Home

If you look into the history of classical royalty in Britain (with a few exceptions) the king and queen had their own bedchambers and only slept together when they where trying to conceive.
I think it's like this: the Ruins (Home) was left derelict when the monsters moved to New Home and since Asgore is not very imaginative he just designed the floor-plan of New Home after the old one. When Toriel would later return to the Ruins, she would make the house live-able for herself and leave Asgore's room be.

I always assumed it was supposed to be chara's room before they died.
Asriel and Chara shared a room, as evidenced by the room for them in Asgore's home 8)
Maybe they were sharing rooms until Chara's was finished being put together, and one it was, they would move into their own room.

If you look in the books at the library, it says that they all lived in the Ruins, which they called "Home". Toriel's house is where Toriel and Asgore lived before they moved to "New Home". The room under renovations was Asgore's old room, and the room under renovations in New Home was Toriel's room. I know some people don't sleep together for reasons I never decided to look at, so they might be that type of couple.

My personal headcanon is that they weren’t romantically compatible, and that while they were good friends before marriage, spending all that rime together made them realize how little they actually had in common, and Chara and Asriel were the only things holding their relationship together.
When you talk yo the turtle that sellse you things in waterfall, once the barrier is broken (pacifist ending) he tells you things about Toriel and Asgore. From what he said, it's pretry clear they loved each other. Also, there's the first tape at the true lab.
They very clearly loved each other. Toriel very clearly states she split from him after his decision to declare war on humans, who she so loves.
Its a no-brainer why she decided to split from him- he wasn't the same man anymore after their children died.
They also split in Deltarune. He didn’t kill any children there. Makes me wonder why though

While it would be funny if you can get keys to go into the secret rooms and they turn out to be bathrooms, I can think of one more idea that ties into this. They did sleep in the same room, but because they don't want the pain of thinking about the other, they each moved their beds to a room that was used for something like an office. The rooms are still under renovations because they both are sad about not being with each other and can't go in to change it.
The other possibility is that the rooms used to be playrooms for Asriel and Chara or a family room they spent time in. That would be painful to revisit too.
Good ideas! I saw a comment earlier with a somewhat similar theory-though they added Toriel perhaps didn't want to sleep with Asgore because he snored too loudly, hehe :P

Finding this again just to say that I saw this thumbnail before watching an Undertale playthrough (I had no idea what it was about back then) so this created a my major distrust to Toriel. Thanks, man.
I have a theory about the souls!!
So we know that the souls all have their certain color.
what went through my head was that some monster when they attack you they change the color of your soul.
I pondered about this, and I feel like it's a good chance.
For Example, The Yellow soul (justice)'s gun can be bought by Bratty and Catty, who do they like alot? Thats right, Mettaton, In the fight with Mettaton your soul becomes yellow. I feel like The child of Justice may have died from Mettaton and taken to the king. While Bratty and Catty went to the area after hearing Mettaton was there, they could have found the gun and took it back to sell.
But when I told my freind she mentioned the purple soul, (Perseverance), When I though about it the one who turns your soul purple is muffet, but you buy the soul's items from Gerson. While daydreaming it hit me, what if the child had been freinds with Gerson? So When the child continued their journey, Gerson decided it would be best to go with the child. But the child had reached Muffet, and they fought, the child losing. So Muffet only caring about the soul's value she woukd have just taken the soul and sell it to asgore leaving the body there. So what if Gerson Came across it, feeling devastated he picked up the child's body, and also took it to asgore but kept the notebook and glasses.
My freind also brought up the light blue soul (Patiences), I couldn't think of someone who turned your heart blue, but then Doggo went to mind. he's the 1st one who uses blue attacks and He is the closest to the ruins where you find the items of the soul.
I should mention the Orange soul as well, it's a long shot, but the Charater So Sorry uses Orange attacks, and since they try to give you something for bumping into you, what if while going to a art club meeting they accidentally came across the soul of bravery, in which he tries to apologize for getting in their way and tries to give them something, and when having his back turned he might have accidentally killed the kid using his tail. So once he turned around he panicked. But uh, let's say the meeting was in Snowdin? So When he was Panicking the Snowdin shop keeper saw and she helped calm him down -or something- and then they took the soul to the king and So sorry told the Snowdin Shop Keeper to keep the iteams as a thanks or apologies?? -I don't know-

Well I feel like the reason he knows Asgore would take the soul is probably because of the incident with the soul of Justice. He could have easily regretted giving the soul to Asgore so when Frisk comes along he decides he should become independent and leave the undergound.

Well I have answer for the Blue soul, it has it been Sans. Since Sans says in the game That he has never seen a human before.

CAUTION: Spoilers are afoot in this long comment.
Now, I have a theory as to how the two halves of each set go together, and it's not what you might think. So we have Frisk's stick and band-aid, oh boy. Then the Toy Knife and Faded Ribbon. These just don't align with each other, so lets set them aside for now. Muscle Bandana and Hard Glove. They fit together well enough, so that's two pair. Next up is the Ballet Shoes and Old Tutu. They definitely go well together. Followed by the Worn Notebook and Cloudy Glasses. Makes sense. Next up is the Frying Pan and the Stained Apron. These go together, logically. Then the Empty Gun and Cowboy Hat, yeah they go together, followed by the Worn Dagger and Heart Locket... These don't really make sense either but you find them in boxes in the same room, and I have a theory as to this anyway. So now we come back to the Toy Knife and Faded Ribbon... What if I told you these aren't actually an item set, and neither is one of the others we've found? Such as... The Frying Pan and Stained Apron? Bear with me here for a moment, and it's totally relevant to the first sentence of this post, but what if the Faded Ribbon and Frying Pan go together? It would certainly create a set designed around a certain character from a certain game... Those of you that know, will know. Which leaves the Toy Knife and Stained Apron... We get no description as to the Apron, only what it does. Which means... It could be too big for a child. The child wearing the two lost their toy knife near Toriel's home, and stole her only apron. Think about it, there's no sign of an apron anywhere in Toriel's home, yet we know that she cooks. So there's that. Now as for the Worn Dagger and Heart Locket? What if they don't belong to the same person? We know that Chara had an affinity for knives, and as such very well may have had a dagger, but a heart locket just seems too... Weird, for someone of Chara's nature. So chances are, it belonged to Asriel. Asgore took these two items with him as mementos of the two, and we just walk in and take them (how rude of us) before moving on to him. As for the Real Knife and The Locket in the genocide route, I've got no explanations, "It's Chara" is the best I can give. These are my thoughts, you're welcome to give your own!

I agree. because notice how the only things colored in the home was yellow flowers and the present boxes, one of which has the heart locket in them. It felt like to me, it was a reference to Asriel.
I actually had an idea that the buildings are made of magic as well and can change color and design
from exposure to a monsters emotions over a prolonged period of time. kinda weird but eh food for
thought.

Personally I'm not a big fan of If Undertale was Realistic, I just didn't find it funny. The only thing I liked was Sans, I absolutely loved his accent. Though I'm not sure what it's supposed to be.
I think Sans' accent is Irish because he is a revanent and they are from irsh folklore.Undyne is an Asrai which is also Irish folklore and she has red hair like the irish.In matter of fact,most of the monsters are irish based which may point to MT. Ebott taking place in Ireland?

Shadowhite0 Well i don't believe he is revenant either but i dunno the name of the other skeleton people.I know there are some in romanian culture too,but the folklore in romania is full of mainly evil critters that like pranking people.England could be another possibility.It is definitely in the UK because it is full of english speaking Monsters and they have some references to the culture that'd only make sense if it was in the UK.I know england separated from uk but it is easier to just call it uk.

I think after the death of their children, they might have separated rooms for a while. After all, Toriel did not leave until she became upset at Asgore taking a human soul. That probably passed some time between Chara falling down, so I'd have liked to think they were trying to make it work and keep it together, but still grieving.
My theory
This is a room for the 7 prior humans belongings. There is zero evidence that other children stayed there, besides Chara and Asriel. Why? Because after the 7th human died, Toriel couldn't take it anymore. She couldn't stand the depression and hopelessness she felt with it all around her. So she locked away everything the kids had and put it in that room. Never to be seen again. The "room under renovations" sign is still there because she can't bring herself to take it down.

@@SelzPalace yeah but there is some human food that has made it into the underground. in the fridge, there is a NAME BRAND chocolate bar. i dont think the underground has any other brands besides MTT. and im pretty sure they would say MTT brand chocolate bar if it was an MTT brand chocolate bar. but it is not. dont think there even is MTT brand chocolate bars in the underground. so that means toriel still gets human food from time to time. so i still think it would be a reasonable explanation for a bathroom to be there.

I simply imagine they shared a single bedroom, a la, the tapes from the lab, and that the extra room was simply used as an office, a lounge, a playroom (for the kids) or so on. Or maybe it was just used to store all sorts of memorabilia that was specific to one of them.

I'd like to think that the Dreemurrs were building another room specifically for Chara, but it never got finished and Toriel never bothered to finish it because it just brought up bad memories.

It's physically impossible to be a bathroom because we learn from the person in grillby's monster food doesn't go through their body's like human food
Dat Guy Blue And Sans did say that Papyrus wears his armor in the shower but we can't find a bathroom. So maybe it's a bathroom for shower and Chara? Or again, the snail storage room.
I actually think the locked room was once used for storage but when Chara fell down, it became their bedroom and Toriel blocked it off so we wouldn’t ask about Chara and 1. Ruin the story and 2. Bring back bad memories.
I don't know why but I always felt like the two rooms were linked like a teleportation device of some kind and the reason it says under renovations is because goat mom didn't want asgore to come find her. That made a lot more sense in my head but yeah that's what I think

Ahmed AS My understanding is that the Dreamurrs used to live in the ruins before they moved to the new capital, way before Asriel was born, so that wouldn't make sense. Eventually, Toriel came back.

Hinatakun360 Well, Toriel's home in the ruins was made after Chara and Asriel died. The room Frisk uses is a room that was made for any human that fell into the ruins.

i have an idea on why they had different rooms. maybe if the kids needed consoling they could go to the closest one, or if one needed space while the other was having a bad day, it could be the spare bedroom?

I don't think they're separate rooms for the two parents. In one of the True Lab videos, it's shown that the two sleep together. It's probably either Asriel or Chara's

i think that they did share a room, because in the videos in the true lab, theres that one of toriel making mom jokes in the middle of the night. but this was before asriel was born so they could have changed their sleeping rooms after that
