  • Going to Yaowarat, Bangkok's Chinatown has always been a love-hate relationship for me.
On the one hand, there are so many good foods there that you must not miss out on but on the other hand, traveling there has always been a hassle, as it's almost always crowded and the only mode of transport is via taxi.
Good news is, now all of us can easily get to Yaowarat via the new opened MRT blue line! The station will be fully operational from 29th September 2019.
Currently, the train ride is on trial and is free for all. However, do note that the operational hours are only from 10am to 4pm daily.
To get to Yaowarat, simply take the blue MRT line to Wat Mangkon Station which is 1 stop after Hua Lamphong. You can come out of exit 2 or 3 onto Charoen Krung Road and you are pretty much in the heart of Yaowarat where the main action is.
I have been to Yaowarat on several occasions but it has always been in the evenings, where people head over there for supper, seafood and bird's nest.
This time, Daryl and myself we were there for lunch. In fact, there are some pretty amazing street foods that can only be tasted in the day.
With the help of Google, we found this amazing Teochew braised goose stall that according to the owner, has been in business for 42 years!
The goose is seriously delicious, it's all soaked in the savory herbal sauce. The meat is chewy and tender all at the same time.
On our way back to the MRT station, we saw a crowd at a roadside stall. It was a random try but it turned out it is another famous joint in Yaowarat that selling fishball noodles. The fishballs are handmade. I love the soup version with lots of pork lard in it. It was almost addictive.
