Tips for Bathing Long-Haired Guinea Pigs!

- Long-haired guinea pigs typically need bathing more often than short haired piggies - as their hair naturally gathers hay and can get tangled and messy easily, especially around the rear end! Trimming the hair helps with this, though bathing is recommended to keep the guinea pig clean, comfortable and healthy.
Lyra, my lunkarya piggie gets a bath in this video! Some helpful tips for bathing long haired piggies are:
- Use a good shampoo, Gorgeous Guineas does shampoos especially for long haired piggies.
- Ensure your piggies are as comfortable as possible, I recommend using a washing up bowel. Have plenty of towels on hand.
- Pay particular attention to the rear end as this will be the dirtiest part! The water will probably need changing. If you don't want to wet/wash the whole piggie you can just give them a "bum bath".
- Bathing is a good time to trim your piggies hair (ideally before, though I did it afterwards).
- Make sure your piggie is completely or almost completely dry before putting them back in the cage to ensure they don't get cold which could make them ill.

she is so cute and well behaved. i don't routinely bath my piggies (i don't have any long haired ones though) but one of my previous piggies needed a bum bath every so often. gorgeous guinea shampoos are excellent - i always keep a trial size of manuka and neem shampoo in just incase it's needed :)

I'm singularly fortunate with my one long-haired piggy Buddy. I know a few others who have Coronet piggies, and they tell me they go through fits trying to bathe them. Buddy, however, seems to like it. I've learned the water temperature he likes, and he doesn't seem to want to get out until the water temp drops by about 5C. It's strange that my one long-haired piggy loves bath time, but my short-haired piggies despise it. Oh, well. At least one piggy likes getting his smelly little bum washed.
i use baby shampoo for my piggys that work as well. in the netherlands i never found piggy shampoo
Please brush her more often! It seems to me like her hair is VERY matted and tangled. This really breaks my heart. Please take better care of her.
hi hi! i have a long haired guinea pig, you seem like you should know, how recent should i brush my guinea pig, and how recent should i properly bathe my guinea pig? my guinea pig is a outdoor guinea pig and spends pretty much most of the day on the grass and dirt. (over night she stayed in her hutch obviously) but yeah how much do you recon?
My piggie likes to poop in the bath and he is not fond of baths but I need to give him bath because he gets huge knots by his rear end and he hates getting his fur cut and I feel so bad but I have to do it but this video help a lot thx

My piggie eats her poop too but is it ok if they do cause I'm not too sure about the germs and Lyra was so cute in that vid love watching ur vids cause they are nice to watch and do help me with my pigs

How often should you bath them. Should you bath medium hair pigs cause my pig doesn't exactly have short hair but it's kinda long to, not to long though, and it sheds. Hi! @squeakdreams I just got two baby guinea pig two days ago. I gave them some alone time to just get used to their new environment and new sounds. today I tried bonding with them and they are still very scared I have two beautiful baby girls Isis and cleopatra :-) Isis is starting to get a little used to me but her and cleo are still a littel scared and won't let me pick them up when I try to bond with them :-( what should I do? (ps sorry for the long speech)

Try showing your mum that your responsible by cleaning your room or doing jobs without your parents asking you and don't nag them about it either if you don't want to do that try saving up

Yes, it is. Some piggies do and some don't. One of my three pigs eat her poop and it's completly normal.

NEVER teach guinea pigs how to swim. They DON'T like it. When placed in deep water, they will swim because it's either swim, or drown. It is a very scary and dangerous experience for them.
+ILoveGuineaPigs2424 my guinea pig loves swimming I always place her in a pool with a slope from shallow to deep I place her in the shallow water then she can swim when she likes but make sure if she likes it
