  • Playing my banjo in the north woods of Minnesota on a beautiful spring day.
    The songs are Soldier's Joy and Arkansas Traveler. I am tuned to Double B (Double C tuned down half a step). This is based on Mike Iverson's version of both songs. Hope you like it.
    Im up to suggestions for next song that I post.

    I've wanted to play claw hammer banjo since I was 8 but my family could never afford it. You are one of the many players that I've looked up to through out the years to keep me inspired to learn one day. I'm now 24 and am going to buy my first banjo tomorrow. I just wanted to come on here and say thanks for that.

    I grew with bluegrass in my dad's family and goes back to my ancestors in the 1800s. My grandparents always went to festival's and id go with my dad and mom and my great uncle Bob and his wife Talene played at festivals.. alot of people said back in the 40s and 50s and after that that Bob was the best fiddle player in texas. Im so proud to say i grew up in my grandparents living room and i live right next door to my grandma.. my great uncle and aunt passed away only a couple months apart back in 2013. and ive heard this song lots of times. I now play guitar and am fixing to learn the fiddle. I'm the only person of my age in my whole family that wants to carry on bluegrass and folk music. Seeing this video made me so happy

    Me and my dad played Soldier’s Joy on violin at my uncle’s wake earlier this year. It was a bittersweet experience, but it was a nice little send-off.
    It’s actually a Scottish fiddle tune, and my uncle himself was Scottish, and it was one of his favourites, which is why we chose it.

(Sorry, us Nashville natives'll shorten Doolittle that way) I love the slightly softer tone of your banjer-doesn't have the strident twang that many instruments do, yet still has the ring of a true banjo. Sounds great and I love the nature scene... I have to ask you though, are you concerned about how the weather might affect your instrument? I made a couple videos with my banjo and fiddle in the cold... the one with my fiddle, I broke a string I think because of the weather.. and the one with the banjo made it harder to tune..... I wasn't so concerned cause both these instruments were really cheapo things... but now I have a pair of mid-range quality instruments and I don't know if I want to expose them to snow and high heat weather etc.

    • @ENNconcord
      @ENNconcord  Před 7 lety +2

      Mozart Jones Weather definitely does make tuning more challenging. Because the head of the banjo I am playing here is made out of synthetic material, I wasn't worried about damaging the instrument. If the head were made out of hide, I would definitely take proper precautions to assure that it didn't tear when going from warm to cool temps.

    Very awesome performance, Taylor! I actually found this while looking up the differences between clawhammer and bluegrass. If I'm correct, clawhammer involves more light strumming and occasional picking, whereas bluegrass involves fast arpeggios between picking multiple strings, right? I'm quite interested in learning more about moutain and earth music.
