  • When you think the things will run smoother and better and then you run out of workers and nails... Life sucks! :)))

Happy new year and all the best wishes 🎉🎉
PS: There was a bubu with the sound and I did not record the game sound so I had to add a different medieval music, but we can't hear the other sounds too. Sorry :(

    ***[Edits below]***
Thank you for the shoutout. Much appreciated. And LOL, yes we all make lots of happy little mistakes! Of course it is easy to see those mistakes as one watching the video, but hard to notice them when recording the video - your mind is on the game AND on telling that story AND on if the recording software is working correctly AND..... Playing for yourself is much different than recording a video. Most viewers don't realize this because they have never tried for themselves.
Long ago the village barber tended to also be the village doctor and dentist, and I'd imagine it was not a fun place to visit. Anesthesia was just a couple shots of whiskey back then. And there was very little cleanliness. Probably one of the reasons life spans were so short.
I don't remember ever seeing nails in the trader, just iron and iron ore. Hopefully I'm wrong. By the way, you accidently turned off your workers in the Smithy, so no one is there to make nails... And the carts took so long to be moved to the new cart parking because at that time everyone was working as laborers in the fields during planting season.
[EDIT: I just got my own Trading Post up and running and the first trader has nails for sale, so you CAN buy nails!]
Something to think about - since there is a nail shortage (my series had a nail shortage, too) the builders had little to do. That's a good time to fire all but one or two and use them as blacksmiths to make more nails (or traders). Now get that trader up and running and sell off all of those rotting potatoes before the Treasury goes bankrupt! 😉 (Look at the food (potato) graphic and notice the little bar running out of time over them). You can sell flour and all the rest - look again. Sell everything that is about to rot away fast and grow new ones next season. Maybe turn off all but 2-3 fields and just do those really good, rather than too many fields done poorly because there is few labor?
There will be enough citizen-grown garden crop varieties to fill two of those small granaries. And remember, to get a farm manager you still need to click the + on that square. I know if feels like it is already clicked, as if the image means you are waiting for a manager to be added (+) when available. Also, there are never enough men for certain jobs, so be sure to unselect them when you can - the farm manager is a great place for a woman to take charge and leave a man for grunt work like carrying logs and pounding nails.
Only laborers work on Charcoal Pile because charcoal is used in many buildings around the map (not just the blacksmith) and is just a transporting job (stack lots! of firewood). Afterward the blacksmith, and brick maker, and salt maker, and the smelter... will go get their own charcoal IF you check 'Worker by hand' and/or 'Worker by cart' in the resource button in the building window. Take a close look at that selection - you can choose who brings what all over the village and fine tune your jobs and worker/laborer availability. You can make the blacksmith haul his own charcoal or make laborers haul it for him so he can just make nails. It is all there with lots of flexibility, but it is all of these little details that either makes this game amazing or frustrating if you are running so fast that you don't notice them.
Pro tip: try to leave spaces between more buildings, even between farm fields if they are this big. Give workers ways to get from here to there without walking around the whole outside of the village to get there. Too many buildings touching with no access between means workers spend a lot more time walking instead of working.
River trading ships can pass under (through) bridges fine but the Smeltery builds a stone barrier across the river (take a peek at it) so be sure to build that one beyond your trading dock or you'll have problems later.
If someday you decide to restart to make use of all that you have learned, I'd place smaller farm fields and small orchards (remember fewer laborers) with gaps for pathways along the steepest hillsides and use the flatter areas to build the town, then focus industry surrounding the housing areas to make it closer to walk to work. Every town design will have its benefits and flaws, so there is no perfect way to do it.
Enjoy watching you figure things out. Good show!

Thanks again for all the tips! Great tips for sure! And you are very right, when playing and focusing on the story, build and anything else to make the video watchable and nice, I forget about stuff, but then again I want to move them to the funny part of the video :) Some smiles are more than perfect :D

Forestry, it is best to have 3 guys if you can spare them, but if you have a stockpile of logs then 2 is enough.
2 farms at this point, is a lot. The issue that you will have is that you will struggle to sow all the fields in time AND struggle to harvest them all in time. A lot of crops will rot. Potatoes especially.
Also build the Town Hall that gives you much more information and control, over rents and wages and crop prices etc.
Lastly, I couldn't see for sure but place a bench outside lots of houses and workplaces. The workers use them for rest and if they don't have to walk so far it doesn't take them so long. (Oh I see that you have them...top.)
When you run out of money you get a loan. It has NO penalty at the moment, but it ought to have. That might be an oversight, that will be patched.
Trading Dock is less important at this time. But the trading ships sail straight through the bridge. You have to imagine that they lower the sails.
Low quality water is from wells near to the river, great for farms and industry though.
You don't want to buy nails! You want to buy Iron, so that your smithy can make nails. Sell Charcoal through the trading post. Building houses cost nails too. The smithy gets paid more than a labourer, so it is best to just have women and children doing the labouring.
Amazing how well you are doing, for a first run. It is a complex game, but very pretty.

Thanks for the input! Really appreciated and very helpful. Yeah I made some mistakes and probably do few more 😁 but I will find the right path eventually by just playing and of course with all the tips from you all.

Yeah, those are good later because I have to provide them all the goods, hence I need make sure they can find them in the village. But is a good point 😁😁

How about stopping people from working on one of the farms in order to have more people to fill other jobs.
Possibly even stopping people from working on both farms. You have people producing stuff in their gardens so I assume they won't starve :)
That way you can get people to fill the jobs that need doing, like making charcoal, wood gathering, fishing ...
I noticed last year, the third field (the buckweat) did not get harvested before the snow fell, so they wasted a lot of time growing it, depleeted the nutrients in the soil, and harvested 2 rows of the stuff. The rest was wasted. So possibly it is not worth farming 3 fields with the current population.
Maybe leave one fallow or stop farming it completely

    • @Skibitth
      @Skibitth  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I almost totally agree :D
Indeed I made a mistake by going for 2 farms each with 3 fields. I think one with 1-2 fields would have been more than fine. But I also noticed that kicking people out from their jobs affects them somehow...they won't start working elsewhere immediately. I am a beginner with the game (still) and learning things and how they work. This game is indeed very smart and was created very close to how things work in real life and this is awesome!
