    I can't even imagine the electricity going through this state. I love the lions and the fact that I'm 21 and I've never felt that is what keeps me a lions fan. Yeah, I could go jump on the bandwagon of a winning team. But what is truly the reward? I'd give anything to feel this. Hopefully I will someday!

      The electricity was phenomenal. In the divisional round vs the cowboys I never heard the silverdome so loud. I will never forget that great day, I was 20 years old and my girlfriend surprised me with tickets for us and I remember getting goosebumps in the fourth quarter cuz the game was out of reach for the cowboys and the fans just stood for almost the whole fourth quarter and just kept on cheering. At the two minute warning I heard the loudest version ever of the goodbye song and I just has goosebumps and I had tears flowing cuz it was just magical.

    Dan thanks for posting this...i'm a Lions fan at heart and even bigger 1991 Lions fan. Drew a picture of Barry Sanders in grade 9 art class go figure, loved the picture, followed the player and saw that whole 1991 season. I never followed football growing up in Toronto Canada playing hockey the whole time but that changed everything. I made it down that year for a game being in a hockey tournament in Detroit but we scored in double overtime landing us a spot in the championship game. The only problem was it was at the same time as the football game. We ended up winning the tournament but went home feeling robbed ! Twenty five years later searching for 1991 highlights found out about the 1991 anniversary game (2016) so that was sweet redemption. Never saw a professional sports team have so much fun playing sports. You guys accomplished so much that season, knocking off GB, beating Buffalo outdoors, then giving it to Dallas in the most amazing game i've ever seen in the playoffs. Thumbs Up and thanks for the great memories.....

    As a fan of the #DetroitLions, when the season’s over, you don’t make it to the NFL Playoffs, you don’t win in the #NFLPlayoffs, whenever I get disenchanted I watch this video clip as extra motivation going into the next season.
    When I reflect back, I often ponder the Detroit Lions teams from 1991 through today. If only the coaches and players carry a heavy heart of #MikeUtley, #ErikAndolsek, in every game, every season as extra inspiration and motivation.

    Wow what a amazing season! 12 and 4 Central Division Champions! They had a first round bye and the 2nd round was a home playoff game and they embarrassed the Cowboys on national tv. One game away from the Superbowl and the Lions competed with the Washington Football Team, for most of the first half but unfortunately they were just more talented and blew us out for the second time that season. On opening night national tv the football team cleaned our clock and the same with the last game. It was almost a little karma cuz the Lions cleaned the Cowboys clock twice that season. A phenomenal year and unfortunately they haven't won a playoff game since.

      They mention it before they delve into the season. If only the redskins didn't exist that year... the lions would've played the bills in the super bowl, they probably would have won it too since they beat them earlier in that season on the road no less

    • @MGAF688
      @MGAF688 Před 5 lety +2

      Yeah, the Bills rested most if not all of their regulars including the likes of Bruce Smith, Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas against Detroit since Buffalo was 13-2 and had wrapped up the #1 seed. Detroit won by 3 pts in OT with its starters fighting for a playoff spot so that Detroit wouldn't end up a Wild Card team. Chicago was 11-4 as was Detroit and if Chicago had won to go to 12-4, Chicago would have won the division. Also, if both would have lost their last game, Chicago would have claimed the division. Detroit had to win the game in Buffalo and did. So it wasn't what people think.

    Since 1980, I've seen Billy Sims, Barry Sanders, Herman Moore, Calvin Johnson and Matt Stafford........win one Playoff Game. Not to mention guys like Blades, Spielman, Ball, Baker, Purifoy and many more defensive stars. Not to mention 3 exceptional Kickers in Murray, Hanson and now Prater.

    the score in the championship was misleading. the lions were in the red zone driving and about to make the game 17-14 when they came up short and kicked a FG instead. it was still competitive at half time at 17-10. a few mistakes in the second half by a young team in the playoffs for the first time and the score in the end looked lopsided, when it was far from that through one half.

    That's where the narrator is wrong. The 41-10 loss to Washington captured perfectly what the Lions were in 1991. Coming off a 6-10 record in 1990, the Lions took advantage of a very weak schedule. At home, Detroit was 8-0 but beat a lot of teams that did not have winning records in 1991 (only 2 of 8 teams finished over .500). On the road, against playoff contending teams, the Lions were way over-matched. 45-0 to Washington, 35-3 to San Francisco, 20-10 to Chicago. A total of 100-13! Let me repeat that. The Lions lost these 3 games by a total of EIGHTY SEVEN POINTS. The Lions beat Buffalo in the final game but Buffalo rested all of its starters because the Bills had the #1 seed wrapped up. So losing 41-10 to Washington didn't surprise most observers. It was a lot closer than the first time the Redskins beat Detroit. 31 points instead of 45 points.

    • @skeeterdoo4147
      @skeeterdoo4147 Před 4 lety

      Although I agree with much of what you say, I think your assessment is a little too harsh. The Lions beat good teams like the Bears, Cowboys and Jets, and you don't win 12 games in the NFL without being good.
      However, they simply and clearly were not an elite team, as you demonstrate.
      The last really solid Lion team was back in 1970. Their season-ending five-game winning streak against division leaders was classic. Had they gotten by Dallas in the playoffs, I think they would have won it all.
      For whatever reason, the Lions just haven't been able to put together a truly solid team since then. Several teams had great potential, but critical injuries or an almost unbelievable string of "bad luck" ruined promising seasons.
      That's life, I guess.
