  • Project Agent Orange:
    We started with a slow 1976 BMW 2002 Automatic and converted it to an all electric drivetrain. This car has no transmission, none, nada, zilch and has two (yes two) Hyper 9 electric motors. This conversion also involved no welding, cutting or mangling this pristine vehicle.
    The end result is a super fun driver that is not only faster, but more reliable.
    It features full Air conditioning, power steering and power brakes.
    Motor: Dual @144 Volt Hyper9
    Charging and DC DC convertor: 6.6 KWH Elcon
    Adapter: Flash Drive Motors
    Transmission: Direct Drive
    Batteries: 7 Tesla Modules

    I look forward to when we can buy a diy kit for any old car.

    Excellent video! I like seeing the different ways to electrify old cars. Dual motors connected by belt without a transmission. Neat

      Thank you. It’s really a cool setup

    I was wonder which way you were going to go. I thought you were going to do a rear wheel to all wheel drive for a second. But then you did the parallel motor setup. Making old Cars fun again is always a hoot.

    Love the sound of the car. Like a jet plane spooling up

    Love this! I love EV conversions. They are even better than my transportation....which is a pedal bike😅🤣😂! If I had a millioin dollars...I'd buy one (or more) of your conversions. These are perfect for Hawai'i, I might add. There are fewer places to get to here. Slow bumper-to-bumper traffic. No range anxiety!

      I appreciate the kind words. FYI - They are substantially cheaper than $1M 😂

    Nice video. I always find the dual Hyper9 a strange thing though. Isn’t there any single unit equivalent “replacement” for that setup? By the way, how much was the final weight of the car compared with the original?

    • @dissrepair
      @dissrepair  Před 7 měsíci +1

      There is a "new" motor that is supposed to be equivalent, but I haven't seen one installed in anything.

    I was surprised that you were wiring 2 HyPer9 motors to a 7 Tesla Module battery pack. My estimate is that the pack is good for about 160 Volts. Are you wiring the motors in parallel to the battery so that each motor gets the full 160 V from the pack? Is the current draw from 2 motors in parallel hard on the pack? What is the range like?

    • @dissrepair
      @dissrepair  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Range is actually pretty good. ~130 miles. And it’s 144 nominal voltage. Current draw under full load is 1000 amps

      It is getting an EV conversion, we should have a build video coming out soon!

    how much did you pay for the parts? im looking into doing this myself as a project (not with a 2002 but an e24)

    • @dissrepair
      @dissrepair  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I don't have exact figures, but hyper9 and Tesla modules are the major cost items.

  • @joshgworks
    @joshgworks Před 7 měsíci +1

    Did this need dual hyper9? It seems like it could be done with a single motor?

    • @dissrepair
      @dissrepair  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Easily with a single. Or even better, do a triple!

      they are going direct to the diff so with just one motor it would only send 622 ft lbs to the wheels (3.6 x 173 ft lbs) Without a multiple at least 1/3 your curb weight, youll accelerate off the line like a Yugo

    If he use single motor correct gearbox. He will surely get better speed and torque

    • @dissrepair
      @dissrepair  Před 3 měsíci

      Gear box would have provided a ton of lower end acceleration. We are building something one now with dual motors and 5 speed

    That engine wasn't running right. The stock non tii was good for under 11s 0-60. With those carbs and the usual mods, should be 7 ish.

    • @dissrepair
      @dissrepair  Před 7 měsíci +1

      With an auto, I doubt 7s with whatever carb. Maybe a shot of nitrous.

  • @vica153
    @vica153 Před 5 měsíci

    Tiny car, dual motor, and nearly 8seconds 0-60. Quite dissappinting. Slower than your average car these days. Same acceleration as a hybrid ybrid Toyota Sienna.
