- Dexter's (Jim Sturgess) addictions and ego start to get in the way of his friendship with Emma (Anne Hathaway) when she realises she no longer likes the person he has grown up to become.
What happens in the movie One Day (2011)? Dexter and Emma decide to meet every year on 15 July and see where they stand in life. Over a period of 18 years, they feel that they have more to share in common than the people around them.

This is his worst behavior, seriously. He used to be so kind person and great friend. He lost himself in the alcohol and drugs.
I hate what Dexter did to her. He only realized that she is the one after he got cheated. He got mad at her because she found someone else in Paris. Like wtf?
Emma deserved so much better, honestly.
@@hulyakocyigit1667 But the point of the novel is that they both made each other better. They were better people when they were together. It takes a whole novel for BOTH of them to realise it.
@@hulyakocyigit1667 That's the point. At least half the point of the whole movie. Meaning there were both better people when they were together. Without Emma, Dexter was apathetic person who changed women like new cloth. Without Dexter, Emma was insecure, indecisive and not confident in herself to move up in life. Together they filled out each other's imperfections. As Ian said to Dexter: "She made you decent and in return you made her extremely happy".
Don't blame alcohol and drugs it's called GREED.
Frienship breakups are so messed up and difficult to recover from. It’s worse then romantic breakups. It’s the worst when its both at the same time
I can’t believe they didn’t include this line in the new Netflix adaptation 😭
Right?!!! I was waiting for it! It’s my favorite. 🤭
This scene was the most meaningfull to me 😢.
Whatttt ?? Whyyy
I think it was a great series, but this line is in another level, such a waste they didn’t put this line on the series.
@@MariaGonzalez-jt4nu Agree!
I love that Emma finally realised her worth and decided to back away from Dexter. He really treated her badly in this scene and that he didn’t even realise it. I know he was high on drink and drugs, but he was so cruel and unkind to her. That he always thought he was better than everyone including her. It’s great to look back and take an example from Emma in backing away from him. We as women need to do this and make men realise that we will not be taken for granted.
Man I really relate to this scene. My best friend and I at one point were inseparable did everything together. After a while she got into drugs and was around the wrong people. I tried my best to help her but at a point I had to step away from the friendship. I really get it when emma said i love you but i just don't like you anymore.
You took the right decision.
We cant make decisions for other people, even when its the right decisions. We can only decide for ourselves.
Went through the exact same thing. I feel you so much, it was like losing a sister. But I needed to get away.
it's always drugs isn't it
I had the exact same experience. She was, and I believe still is, my soulmate however, if the other person doesn’t want to see it, one should know when to put themselves first and even when I felt guilty, I knew I was for the best
Jim Sturgess was brilliant in this film. He’s such a good actor. Pity we don’t see him much any more 😢
Great acting by the both of them.
This movie was nominated at the Oscars for original song
It really isn't, Anne can't pull off a northern English accent to save her life
@@jonnybaynham1689that’s your opinion.
@@jg2722did you watch the video😂😂 it was godawful.
I love the way she breaks up with him. She is kind and emotional. I had a friendship break up once where I was in a lot of grief but that was getting overwhelming for a friend. So she broke up with me but with a tone of blaming me for everything. It was very unkind
Why is Anne such a good effing actress
Well she WAS and IS married to William, so...
This movie is so embedded in my brain that itll take time to get used to the series. But both did justice in their own way to this moment
I missed the last sentence in the series. It is also in the book and I found it put into words a feeling you sometimes have towards people that have not been treating you nicely for a long time even though you have been close to one another.
He is a hurt man. I think from the first time she suggested they remain friends, he kept on hurting but unable to express it to her. He kept on going after the other girls but was never successful in wiping Emma off of his heart. She was always there. She will always be there,
watched the series now i'm gonna retorture myself and look at the movie
Good luck, you are very brave!
I never watched this movie, but binged the Nextflix, and it's soooo good. I love it! I do like Anne Hathaway but her English accent is just not happening here.
Honestly, for a non-native UK person, she sounds fine to me and to most of us, though I understand that someone more familiar with this accent would realize her accent is off. Her acting still sold the movie tho!
Can you please share how it's bad, or an example of where she messes up? I can't tell at all (as a North American here)
As an Italian who has lived in the uk for 10 years with english friends /colleagues and in a long term relationship with an English man I can also say it’s Anne’s northern uk accent it’s terrible in this movie. I mean you can tell she is acting it , I am a big fan of hers but for example if you watch Bridget jones , the actress that plays Bridget is from Texas and I thought for a long time that she was actually from England originally , that’s how good her accent is in the films in my opinion.
I dont think I ever recovered from the way this movie shattered my heart into a billion pieces
Came here because I thought this part was so incredibly well-acted in the series. As a longtime fan of the movie, I actually prefer the tv version and I never thought I'd say that
0:50 I really love this scene more here than in the show
He was very annoying and obnoxious most of the time. She deserved better. He wasn't even a good friend.
All I could think about was if they payed at the restaurant? Or just left? 😅
Paid
At least in the show you see him leave the bills on the table
Anne Hathaway really suits the posh British accent and can do it well. I didn’t know she was American
I think her accent is so confused… sometimes it’s posh southern… sometimes common northern … it sounds very odd to me.
No i don't think she does it well
Yep, better than her Austrian accent in that remake of the witches.
I'm English and it's awful. She's supposed to be northern English (think Jon Snow accent) but she's moving around posh (southern English), American, and tiny northern-isms
@@jonnybaynham1689i can pick up on that and i’m american, feels like her american slipped through a little
This is his best work
After wtahcing the series, this scene feels rushed. Im glad they got to shoot the series cos i feel like the book and characters really deserved that time.
Exactly. This scene in the series is so brilliant. Feels so real and relatable. Both actors hit it out of the park with their back and forth. This just seems rushed now. Anne Hathaway having to do the heavy lifting herself and going in and out of that accent lol
Exactly I said in another comment that the movie makes Dex out to be an irredeemable ahole and Emma seems almost like a lovesick victim of his charm. The series makes their relationship much more realistic and balanced.
Oh God, I forgot how painful Anne Hathaway’s accent was in this movie.
People like to dwell on this and I know it's not great but I think her acting trumps it
@@charlotted1321it really doesn’t, the accent is so jarring
@@user-ed7et3pb4o In your opinion!
I can’t tell bc I’m not British lmao
Can you please share how it's bad, or an example of where she messes up? I can't tell at all (as a North American here)
She loves me but she doesnt like me anymore because i dont talk to her like i use to be and im trying to change that
Perfect choice of actors
This movie was the reason I never stay friends with someone I have feelings for. Ever. Lol
Smart! Sadly, I didn't have the same takeaway and learned my lesson the hard way.
Quite a good film.
Great scene! 👏👏👏
The first time I watched this movie - I was so surprised with what happened. Iykyk.
oh gosh that accent of Anne's is not her best work --- she keeps switching between American, then to posh English then to Northern and back again.
Agreed. It's awful
I know, they should of done a few more takes lol
Can you please share an example of which part(s)/phrase(s) were posh, Northern, vs. American? I really can't tell. 😅
I love you but I don't really like you anymore
⭐️▶️love this movie!
I'll watch this one too. But just by seeing clips of this movie, i feel like the series is actually much better, Real British actors, the acting is fantastic, the series is longer so more time to convey emotion
The line I love you but I dont like you anymore is not in the series tho
Yea I was waiting for that as well, wonder why they left that part out!
Story of my life. He does not like me any more.
Boost his ego via complimenting a craft he s working on!
Been thinking about this movie for a couple days now
That's what I have to say to him, but that's painful, pray for me to give the power to save myself from breaking.
It’s not a rom com it’s a tragedy 😭
Aye fr though F this movie for breakin my heart the way it did 😂😭😭😭😭 such a great film
Aweee.. he bacame way too cool to be loved or way too cool to be around anyone but himself.
Thats the problem isnt it?
I hope im never too cool to not talk to anyone.
That would be lonely
The series definitely has more subtext and the conversation is more natural. There were so many intentional creative choices taken in the series that make more sense for the paths these characters would take. There's an element of overacting here that doesn't make them feel real the way they do in the series
Why does she literally run away at the end? 😂😂
She's really good with her English accent. ❤😅
am i the only one who liked this better than the netflix one?
god, she is always ACTING so much
Coming back to this after watching the new tv show, I was so much waiting for it but it was so terrible, no emotions in the best scènes including this one 😅
WHAT? the opposite
Unfortunately They didn’t put the last dialogue 😢
Hard disagree. This is cartoonish compared to the series. They are both acting strange here. It’s not guy punching, it doesn’t feel natural. I feel like I’m watching people act, or pretend not actually feel. I understand why the reviews for this movie were so low compared to the series. I don’t think they did a good job with the material.
@Louloulaskateuse-In your opinion!
@@moptop4355 I disagree with you on this one. Maybe it's our idea of love. Maybe you didn't resonate with the scene but I do. I had a similar experience wherein I had to let go of someone despite loving that person wholeheartedly. That's why it's a mystery to me why you think this scene is forced.
Ironically, I find the tv show to be unnatural and forced. Yes, they expanded the story but the execution was lacking. It felt more "cutesy" to me compared to the realistic approach of the movie.
I love you but dont like you just means Im attached and cant let go
Except in this scene she does let go and they don’t speak for three years
jim encantador
As non-native English speaker, I didn't mind whatever wrong with how she talked in the movie
The only thing that ruined this scene for me was that bloody awful run at the end. To be fair I've never run in heels though.
hahahaha oh u r not missing anything, I bloody hate heels!!
I understand 😂 but I kinda liked how it’s realistic though
What is the song name please?
Lol why she ran away like that
The show is much better, and the casting is more convincing
This is way better than the adaptation, which I will never understand why they do: rarely is as popular.
YO MR WHITE
What is that accent Anne Hathaway is doing?
Dex is comparable to the song Stuck on you
Called GREED.
scene and be seen...;)
I almost got hit by a bus when I was a little girl my mom saved me
Has anyone seen this guy in anything?? I feel like it's been years
He's done a good few movies and a Apple series which is my particular favourite called Home Before Dark
Ill def check that out thank you, I've always liked him@@charlotted1321
He changed his focus to music rather than acting over the past few years, but can still be seen in the odd thing here and there.
Watching this again to reassure myself that the netflix series is wayyy better.
Why must it be a competition? There are numerous adaptations of Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice, and I always welcome the new ones. Sure, I like some a bit more than others, but I don't mind remakes of my favorite love stories; I'll take almost any version of them.
❤❤❤😢
I found myself distracted by Anne Hatheway’s bad accent for the whole movie.
Look, I love Jim Sturgess with all my heart, but after watching the series I'm not feeling his performance here. Leo's acting is so subtle because you can see his pain being disguised as arrogance, and here Jim's acting is like the caricature of a jerk. Am I the only one?
Yes indeed
You are the only one, I’m afraid.
No, I’m kidding. I think he is playing his role very well but I see what you mean
The series is much better
The movie is so much better than the series…I’m sorry.
So much better than the series, I disagree with you there- I feel this films is good and the series very good!
Other way around
The movie is forgettable, the series made me feel things I very rarely feel these days😂
@@Saucyminx597 that’s great. I mean there will always be different opinions for sure. Just for me the movie was better this I can say and I don’t really care if someone disagrees or doesn’t understand this 😄👌🏻
Of course movie is better than netflix remake. I love this actors and their natural chemistry. In netflix series couldn't find it. Main lead played correct but he hasn't this charm that Jim had. When it comes to new Emma.. It was hard for me somestimes even like her.
After watching the series (was never interested in watching rhe movie) I feel this is clownish compared to the tv show. The story was much better portrayed as a series rather than a movie.
i prefer annas acting choices in the part of the scene thats outside, as well as the "i love you but i dont like you anymore" line. but other than that i think the series did this scene better
She wants him to be a scientist ugh what's this noise
The accent is really hard to listen to.
I've come here after watching the series and I don't know if it's because I don't have fresh eyes but their acting seems so unnatural compared to the series
The Netflix series is way better…cos this scene is so cringe
Anne is too pretty to be Emma lol.
In the book Emma is mediocre and not a popular girl
sorry but the series was so much better. the forced British accent I can't...

they're both unlikable people, they treat other people horribly , like accessories or background players to their grand romance/relationship.
From Anne Hathaway to that girl in the series who cannot deliver her dialogues well enough 😢 the series could have been better .. back to appreciate Anne’s acting here ❤
Help why does she run away like that
