I really love it when towns keep their historic buildings. What a cute town. 😀
Nevada Northern Railway Museum is a must stop.
The little town of Ely looks very nice and the entire area looks clean.
The purple car is right up your alley.
Safe travels.
Just drove through there last night. It was magical.
My sister just moved to Ely last year.
Looks like a neat place to live!
Wow, Last time I was in Ely was 1977. Just got married and was on the way to Montana. In Ely we stayed at "The Ruby Motel" Back then they only had one flashing yellow light Downtown. I remember we collected Garnets where they were constructing a dam near town...What memories...Thanks Russ
Great story. Garnet mountain is still open for digging garnets
Love it. My mom was born in Ely 1921.
Russ, that Radio Shack was probably still in business, we have one open in Lander Wyoming. We enjoy your videos, you never fail to amaze us.
They are starting to sell though dealers only and online.
It’s still open
06:53 Back in the 1920s, the five-story Hotel Nevada was the tallest building in the state. I had the pleasure of staying overnight there a couple years ago and have to say it's been fixed up nicely. Didn't see any ghosts, but the plumbing is haunted.
I love how clean the towns look that you visit and the pride they seem to have in the old bldgs
You might want to check out Great Basin National Park, about 67 miles southeast on highway 50. Lehman Cave there is quite interesting.
I grew up in McGill and Ely. Graduated High School in 1961. Moved to Washington in 1966. This brings back a lot of good memories. A lot of changes but a lot the same also. Thanks for posting.
Ely is a great little town! I stayed at Nevada Hotel one night in 2005 and it cost $29 to stay in LBJs Room! Nice little $5.99 Prime Rib for dinner too. One blackjack table, a few slots and a lot of memorabilia in the lobby,
That purple vette is the🐱🐱meow. The Lincoln HI-WAY started in times square NYC and terminated in San fran cisco.Just my 2 cts.
Imagine how many kids would have been around those old cars back in the 60's 70's or 80's just dreaming of having one of them cars and cutting lose.
Nowadays no kids there all sat at home looking into their phones. 🥲 It's such a different world now days.
Hey,Hey, Hello RVerTV Russ, Another Great Ride Along To Ely Today. To Cool for SCHOOL my friend. 👍
Thanks 👍
I never knew Nevada had all these hidden gems I’ve always just thought of Las Vegas being the only place in Nevada. The more I watch your videos it makes me want to take a road trip which I ❤️ doing. Cool video again safe travels.
I live in Nevada and northern Nevada is beautiful.
"Back roads and small towns" -- well, Ely certainly qualifies on both counts! I really like the downtown with the old brick buildings, vintage signs and the terrific murals. And it's always cool to come across a local event like the car show. I think you'll really enjoy the railroad museum, especially the machine shop. Keep an eye out for the famous cat!
Thank you so much for showing me all the places I have always dreamed of. Happy days
We Love RVerTV - BEST TV ON CZcams. Thank you Russ.😊
You are to cool for school..love it👍✅✌️🇺🇸
No Russ. You don't have to get rid of the van. You just have it painted purple....LOL
Hey Russ!🙋♀️A friend had a Corvette she showed and she cleaned the inside of the bumpers with a toothbrush.
Neat town. Can hear the saloon doors banging and squeaking. Wonder why an old town has such a wide main street. Someone was thinking ahead.
Well you are getting closer to the Placerville Ca area, give a hollar and Ill buy you a meal Russ "The Journey Continues"...
Stayed at the Hotel Nevada last year on a trip to Washington. Staff was very friendly but if you are sensitive to cigarette smoke you may want to make other arrangements. The lobby casino, elevator, hallways, and even my non smoking room had the strongest cigarette smell I've ever experienced. Typically not sensitive to that sort of thing but it was very strong. The room was nice and comfortable but was glad to only be staying the night. Great old historic town.
Ever since I quit smoking the smell of cigarette smoke almost knocks me over. Thanks for the warning.
My hometown ❤️
We visited Ely in August. Looks like the same car show I viewed when we were there!!
The entire1 area is full of history. Ruth and McGil add to that too.
Just love these small towns, thanks for the look around Ely. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍
Had breakfast at Hotel Nevada last year. Love Ely
I love it when CZcams prompts your videos in my feed! Ely Nevada, let's do this! 👋🇨🇦
With all the turmoil in the world today your videos are soothing for me for a few minutes
Lovely. I stayed in the vintage hotel My room faced the hill and could see the vintage train go by. The hallway walls display memorabilia. Glad you keep finding car shows. 👍👍😁😎🤗
they have a huge copper mine nearby named the Robinson.
The jailhouse casino has a steakhouse inside that's great. The railroad museum was featured on CBS for the Star train and you can get tickets to ride it but they sell out every year.
I was there 30 yrs. ago on a cross country trip. Such a unique, very Americana town!
I drove US50 in spring, 2016 and didn't find it *too lonely* but then again, I'm from Canada. Loved this video and next one is coming up soon.
Never been through that part of Nevada. Looks like serious mule deer country. Great video!
Stayed at the Hotel Nevada when in town for a State Elks Convention.
Pretty cool place, rooms are extremely small.
Boy, Ely is clean and well kept! Kudos to the people in Ely!
Love your videos. You are living life the right way. I hope to get there someday. 6 more years to retirement. Hope I make it.
Very nice town. Vip spa was an excellent choice to stop by. I enjoyed it.
I'd love to live there...seems like a very special place. Very beautiful too.
Hey Russ!!! "REST UP" for your "JOURNEY " on the" LONELIEST " highway!!! Be Safe!!!
McGill to learn some lessons from Ely in terms of maintaining their historical buildings and history. Ely is very neat town and very well maintained. Great art works. The antique autos were a plus to visit. It's difficult to rebuild these old cars, keep the rust off and maintain in operating condition. Great visit Russ.
Thanks Russ
Nice
At 15:25 that Nevada Railway Station Wagon has Railroad Track Wheels. They extend and retract for riding rails. I think?
I like watching videos with no foul language or anything inappropriate, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
Thanks for the heads up. I will be in Ely next week and February 2023 to explore Ely, Ruth, and McGill. The railroad & copper mines are calling! All my photos are donated to the Nevada State Museum - Las Vegas.
Thanks for Sharing.
Thanks 👍
Cute little town. I was through there in the late 80s. It looks like you added a roof air to the van?
Thanks for the tour of Ely. I was there two weeks ago but did not have the time to see the town. Spent the day at the Railroad Yard, exploring and riding the train. I need to go back.
Ohhh love the purple vet. 💜
You mentioned that Radio Shack hasn't been around for a long time in your Ely, Nevada video. Actually, there is a Radio Shack in Sequim, Washington state that is still open and fully stocked. They even have a counter kitty to greet you, with friendly , helpful staff . So, if you ever get on over to the Olympic Peninsula, stop on in and enjoy the wonderful murals all over town while You're at it.
Across the street from the park is the Ely Hotel. At one time a gathering spot for the Basque population in the aera. Interesting cloth paings in the window. Had my first beer their at the age of 12 in the late 50's
Brings back memories russ,we stayed at the jailhouse motel last feb, while we were on a return trip to quartzite, thanks again for the trip down memory lane, denny's food was great there also....harley rvbroke
Another great video! There seems to be so few people, I don’t know how these businesses survive. Thanks again for your incredible videos!
Hi! Greetings from Brasília, Brazil!
Went through there in 2007 with the family and rode the train. Our hotel had one armed bandits and the wife won enough for free meals for all. A great time!
I live here in Ely and happy you enjoyed your visit
Always loved going here,nice town
Cool little town!
Always happy to see these small towns still thriving! Glad you stopped at Ely, really cool place!💕🌞🏜️
That is great Russ!! Car show in the park, (too cool). A school right across the street, AND you saying one of your famous catch phrases, "too cool for school". Nice!!
Too cool for school. Right on.
My kind of town. ...all lonesome out in the wilds far from everything. Cool. Would love to visit.
Nevada is so "empty". Old-timers used to pronounce this Spanish name "NE-VAY-DAY". It is called "the Silver State", yet it produces 50 % of all the gold mined in the U.S. every year. Route 50 between Ely and Reno is one of the scariest stretches of road in the entire country. You don't want to have car problems there ... modern vehicles like my Dodge Grand Caravan don't even have a spare tire anymore. Your documentaries make us discover new places every week. Great work ! I can't wait to see Lake Tahoe after all these years. RICHARD
Cabin fever … wish I was there at that car show! Pretty area. Have a good day! Im chomping at the bit to get to Nevada now!
Great stop! Glad you stopped at Ely. I drove through long ago and missed out on a lot of history by not stopping. Next time, yes! Have been looking forward to your take on The Loneliest Highway, etc. I drove West to East overnight on The Lincoln Highway and saw no other headlights coming for hours. 😳 Lonely, indeed.
That's a very neat town. Looks like the downtown is well taken care of. Love the old buildings. That's a big hotel. You hit it at just the right time for the car show. Some beauties there. 🙂👍
I was just there last month (October 22). Stayed at the Prospector hotel and Casino before driving across Hwy 50 to Carson City and Lake Tahoe. Part of my 6500 mile road trip from PA. Took Hwy 50 all the way from Dodge City, Kansas to Sacramento.
Drove thru there about 12 years ago; sharp place; and the cars; WOW 😎😎😎👌👌👍👍
I live on US Route 50 here in Ohio in the McArthur Ohio area. Follow Route 50 for 2000 miles you come to my house. 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂 Some fun facts about US 50 it is 3073 miles in length. It goes from West Sacramento, California, to Maryland Route 528 (MD 528) in Ocean City, Maryland. The route runs through mostly rural desert and mountains in the western United States, with the section through Nevada known as "The Loneliest Road in America". In the Midwest, US 50 heads through mostly rural areas of farms as well as a few large cities including Kansas City, Missouri; St. Louis, Missouri; and Cincinnati, Ohio. US 50 was created in 1926 as part of the original U.S. Highway system. The original route planned in 1925 ran from Wadsworth, Nevada, east to Annapolis, Maryland, along several auto trails including the Lincoln Highway, Midland Trail, and the National Old Trails Road. The final 1926 plan had US 50 running from Sacramento, California, east to Annapolis with a gap in west Utah that was bridged by running the route north via Salt Lake City before rerouting it to US 6 in the 1950s. US 50 was extended west from Sacramento to San Francisco in the 1930s, replacing US 48; this was reversed in 1964 when I-580 replaced much of the route between the two cities. In addition, US 50 was extended east from Annapolis to Ocean City prior in 1949, replacing a portion of US 213. US 50 had two split configurations into US 50N and US 50S, one in Kansas and another in Ohio and West Virginia; both of these instances have been removed.
Ely is where the filmed Stephen King's movie based on his book Desperation, it was filmed out at the Largest open pit,Copper Mine there.
Love In the Journey Russ thanks for taking us along it's going to be a great ride be safe buddy
We went up there last year, rode the train. Took a drive over to Great Basin Nat Park. Fun getaway.
Would be a nice, quiet town to retire to! Thanks for the tour, Russ!
neat little downtown
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Love the Chamber of Commerce for info.
Nice little town. Thanks for checking it out. Appreciate your interesting stops.
🙋Hello Russ! Ely's a nice quiet little town. Enjoyed seeing the old cars & trucks. The "1" I loved driving the most was similar to the old rusty yellow car in the children's area. Mine was red, with a bell & I remember peddling away in that car. I hope you enjoy the rest of your Labor Day weekend.👍
Hi and a big hello from Australia 🇦🇺. We are loving your videos. Would love to see a tour video of your van with all the tips and tricks you have in your van that keep you comfy and on the road.
Can't wait to see what the White Pine Chamber of Commerce has to offer.
We drove that highway 2 years ago and stayed at the Hotel Nevada and Casino. Very enjoyable stay. Nice people.
You need to know Radio Shack is still in business, they don’t have too many company owned stores but they have affiliate stores all over the US and this may just be one!
Really cool video again , thank you . Loved the cars and pick ups ,you guys really got some nice ones over there ,when I'm in America I always catch a show at some stage
I like that purple corvette also. Love old cars. Love a 68 Camaro!😍
Radio Shack is back! Apparently they never completely shut down. Radio Shack has continued doing business online. Now they are popping up in brick-and-mortar stores throughout the country. They aren't the same corporate stores that we remember but now an existing business can become an authorized Radio Shack Dealer. I learned all about it on CZcams couple months ago.
exactly, the sign on that store in ely specifically says it's a radioshack dealer. most likely the business sells other things along with radioshack products.
There is a mine just a little ways out of town and that is probably also one of the main employers in the area.
for the passport booklet you are supposed to get it in Carson city and get the stamps as you move east across 50 .
Great video, with one mistake. Radio Shack is still in business in Ely.
I’d love to see this place in the snow?
Lived in Ely for about 4 years. Worked out at the wind farm about 40 miles southeast of there. You’ll see the turbines out to the north of 50 as you get over the pass. There is an interesting Pony Express building/point of interest right near the bottom of the hill just before the turn off to Spring Valley Wind.
Nice looking town but very cold for that area. Only 79 frost free days a year, strange for Nevada.
Love your intro music. Man ,you need to come pick me up , cuz i love old car shows ! The Purple and Silver Corvette was fantastic :)
My fiancee and I will be travelling from Australia in April next year and will be staying overnight in ely on our way to Yellowstone. Great vlog Russ your a legend
That's a great plan!
You will enjoy checking out the historic sites and back roads.
...Hey, look at the van across the street.....🙏🙏
I keep promising myself that when I replace my current down, I will visit Ely, NV, along with a few other Nevada towns. I really want to explore that state. So I'm excited that you're there! One of my plans is to visit Jarbidge, NV, which is pretty remote.
The Radio Shack might be open. There is one south of me in Belle Fourche, SD that is still open.
Jarbidge Nevada is named for Sasquatch. 🙂
It's surprising to see so much green grass. It's a cute town!
