    I just returned to learning piano again after almost 40 years of quitting it. Aging makes you think a lot about your past decisions. I’m so glad I found this website and this teacher. Finally learning this piece is one of the greatest joys of my life. I can’t wait until I can finally play this. Beethoven is eternal.

    What a wonderful video. As someone who is completely self taught, this is the one piece I can play reasonable well. As you demonstrate, it is best to learn this measure by measure and practice, practice practice! I would encourage anyone new to the piano to put in the effort and learn this pice. Once mastered it will impress anyone who listens and give you the confidence to move on the more difficult works. I'm glad you explain the double sharp question which took me ages to decipher when I first started learning this piece. I know it follows the rules of musical notation but it would make life a lot easier if the composer wrote the actual note. Beginners would then find it easier but then i'm sure Beethoven didn't write it music for the musically uneducated like me!

    Lisa is a “teacher’s teacher”. Her love of Beethoven fills my room & mind every time she teaches. When will she be recognized as the national treasure she is? Without good music to hear, you might forget to listen to your own heartbeat. There’s no need to though. Listening to the wonderful Beethoven’s music is the equivalent to hearing a post-doctoral studies course inside your own brain. Your life is more joyful now from having heard it.

    Just before this week I didn't know the first thing about music but I saw your video , 7 days to learning piano and I remembered that my dad had a cheap old keyboard piano in the garage and I picked it up then started playing
    In this week I learned a lot of musics in your channel but I'm having a hard time playing moonlight sonata because when I choose the d sharp that is suited for the first part I can't use my left hand because there is literally no other buttons 😂
    I was hoping if you could give me some advice on how to play this masterpiece properly.
    And also thanks for always teaching in such details

Again learning to play by memory. how difficult do you think that will be and do you think I can ever learn to play the third movement by memory?

    Moonlight Sonata 1st Movement is the first music piece and the only piece I can play with the piano. I just discovered this incredible video, after I have already learnt the whole piece. However, it may sound weird, but when I watched this video, it was the first time I realized the pianist's hands, fingers and fingertips could move in such a graceful and charming way, which made me fall in love with. My hands and fingers are still rigid while playing. I am wondering whether Lisa has the same tutorial for the 2nd movement and even the 3rd. I am now trying to learn the 2nd movement. Thank you so much. 42:24 Sheer appreciation here!

    Thank you, Lisa! Been working on this song the past week. It was my favorite classical piece back in the 80's but due to a career change I had to stop playing piano altogether and have only now begun playing it again. Finding it a bit tougher this time around because my fingers are older and don't want to slip between the keys as easily as they once did, but the melody is coming back. I'm determined to "read" it this time and not just memorize it as I did before. That might help me get past the problem of losing my place every time I hit a wrong note. Do you have any secrets to combat that problem? Love your lessons - please keep them coming!

    I’ve always learned to play the octaves, when possible of course, with the left hand. Adds a bit of flourish when you add the melodies (and putting the sustain pedal to good use). Might have been because my young teenage hands couldn’t quite reach the full octave with the right hand.

    Interesting to note that Beethoven never called this "Moonlight Sonata". That term was coined in 1832 by poet Ludwig Rellstab, 5 years after Beethoven's death. It seems to have stuck since.

      Yeah. And I never liked the name. It doesn't quite fit with the music for me. "Moonlight Sonata" sounds nocturnal, yes, but romantic, whereas this piece has always felt very funereal to me, dirge-like.

    I started learning a version of this in the wrong key so thanks for this - I've wanted to play it ever since playing Jet Set Willy on the Spectrum / Amstrad home computers in the 80s which had it as the intro theme.

    Took me about a week to learn the whole thing. Today I am on the last part. I love this piece so much. For anyone with a 61 key keyboard you can play this fully if you have some shortcuts to transpose or upper scale octave down. If not during the F arpeggio just ignore the D sharp (;_;).
    As a complete noob I feeeel so confident having this in my repertoire. Maybe one day I'll have a full 88 key and I can play the 3rd movement.
    P.S: I underestimated the last part left hand. This gonna take some time getting used to.

    • @r0yce
      @r0yce Před 10 měsíci

      @@hmmmm4193 No. If you have a keyboard you can quick switch an octave. There is an youtube video doing it in 61 keys. It's difficult but possible. Otherwise this is unplayable using a 61 key piano.
