    Im watching this over and over on my quest to really learn the blues. So much to learn here. His style is to not baby us and break it down, but to lay it out and put the burden of figuring it out on us. For the motivated learner it is awesome since you don't have to fwd through BS...just put it on .5 speed and rewind

    Such a great lesson! Minimal blah blah blah with excellent playing and rhythm plus clear instruction that includes the names of the notes - I like that approach!

    Excellent. This must be the first tutorial where it is emphasized that the 'riff' is played in the same key as the changed chord. Which has to be done unless all your riffs are played in the one key ie. song key and this cannot be done in every song. For example; Pink Floyds 'money' has a key change.
    There is a lot of info supplied here, very concise and no BS and no ' see how great i am' .
    Great Video Mr Labell and thankyou for the pdf. of the music.

      @@imannonymous7707 I finally got a day off work - time to revisit this lesson and finally learn this tune - So much stuff going on in this tune that it truly distinguishes itself from a lot of the easier tunes I have learned throughout the years. I have no problem with Hey Hey, Old Love, Layla, signe, and Nobody knows you - but this one ever since I was a kid and got my first tab book ever, has been a hill too tough to climb - I am giving it another go and looping your video for the next couple days as I go into OCD mode.

    This is great it's hard to figure out who plays what on this track....I think you nailed it....hope I can now.....wish me luck....love this dead thumb style...but I struggle with it...thanks

    • @robertlabell
      @robertlabell Před 5 lety +1

      This Version of "Before You Accuse Me" was based on Eric Clapton,s unplugged recording.
      I think I mentioned that Andy Fairweather plays the second Guitar part.
      My objective was to make this version of it a solo Guitar number.
      The bass note are on the quarter note, the downbeat.
      The slapping effect was something that I use from time to time to emphasis the beat.
      The overall purpose of this style was to treat it as Guitar Workshop and use this same rhythmic for other styles, Rock, Country, Blues etc....
      It is not limited to one song or style.

    • @imannonymous7707
      @imannonymous7707 Před 5 lety

      @@robertlabell well robert I appreciate your time and effort and I'm familiar with the style I call it dead thumb some as you say. quarter note bass pedals
      I play hey hey and a ccr tune green river the intro is similar
      This is a great lesson..I get what ur doing.. thank u so much
      And I'm sincere ..your very talented bro
      **See the the thing I struggle with is the contrasting triplet feel of the progression with the quater note bass pedal....just to be clear lol ....peace

    • @robertlabell
      @robertlabell Před 5 lety +1

      You are very welcome and thanks for the feedback.
      The "dead thumb" or pedal Bass or mono bass style can be replaced with alternate or moving bass lines.
      This is up to player.
      I illustrate this in my you tube video of "Hey Hey / Anji Medley which was recorded at The Tilted Dog where I host an Open Stage.
      For the most part I learned this from Davey Graham,s recordings and some ideas that I picked up from Merle Travis.
      My objective was to keep things moving so I would not rely entirely on a Pedal Bass.
      Just a few things to consider.
      A couple of themes and variations is my attempt to keep things interesting.

    Like he said the purpose is to not lose sight of the original composition but the goal is to get you to improvise .We don't want a bunch of juke box players out there that copy stuff exactly .yuck.Even these guys didn't do it the same all the time .The best ,Jimi Hendrix in my opinion was always changing it up and reaching for that next piece to work into the song that will please oneself,and blow ones own mind .peace and love
