Spooling like that put a pile of twist in the line. For bait caster it would be fine

It’s going to put some twist in the line but not much. Enough to matter on mono but I’ve never had any issue at all with braid using this method.

tried it but the wing nut keeps tightening as the spool turns to the point it is too tight or if you turn it around the wingnut unscrews.

There are 2 solutions to that: 1. Lubricate between the nut and the washer, (which worked for me) or 2. Add another nut to tighten against the wing nut to lock it in place.
