- Hey Peeps! I've been looking for the prefect top pattern for a while now. I've found my favourite bias cut tee (M6563 I'm looking at you) but that does require at least 1.1 metres of fabric. This top takes less (I will work out exactly how much next time I make it) and looks just as great. I prefer my tops fitted like this and I'm so happy I decided to experiment with my favourite dress bodice. 😍

The top looks lovely! Very reminiscent of all the tops that Bianca from the closet historian wears and really does emphasize the hour glass figure nicely :) It will look great with wide leg trousers as well.
Just precious! I've used lining pieces as my toile before, but hadn't thought about pattern placement. Genius!
The top is lovely and it will be a useful pattern for those small amounts of fabric left from some of your dresses. I don't always get a chance to see the longer videos at the weekends, so a couple of 10-20 minute waffles a week would work well, it was good to hear what you are working on.

You might look at Sandra Betzina's books to see how she does zippers. I think it's in her Power Sewing that she explains how she always uses a zipper that is longer to set it in easily. The actual zipper pull and the top of the zipper are set in a few inches above the neckline so that you don't have that bulk in the way while trying to put it in. Then she moves the pull down, clips the zipper ends a bit and finishes the neckline. It is so much easier than doing it the traditional way and it really doesn't matter what size zipper you have as long as it is nylon and can be cut through. I only buy long ones now (and usually just in black, white, or gray). That top is super nice, by the way.

Beautiful! I have an amateur’s question: what is your preferred method for transferring pattern marks to the actual fabric? Tracing paper, eyeballing it, or something more systematic?

Question… how does the lining piece help with the pattern placing compared to the pattern pieces themselves?
The pattern piece is only half and I find it easier to get a motif placement centred if I don't have to fold the fabric in half, it's just how my brain works 😊
