Battlefront 2 released in 2017 to... mixed reactions. In fact, it was so heavily monetized that Disney stepped in and told them that it was unbecoming of a Star Wars franchise entry. They eventually stripped out all of the lootboxes and pay-to-win mechanics and now, according to many online, the game is "good." So I decided to try it for myself and see what the game had to offer modern audiences.

To be fair, it didnât take 5 years, it took about half a year.. playing the game AS the content was being released was a great time and earning the cosmetics was rewarding and fun. Once the dev teamed had to bail on it they unlocked all the cosmetics for everybody.
Wish I had bought it, but I saw the lootboxes and noped out. Shame given how fun it is now

Here is a quick guide for people looking to play this game now:
First dont worry about card balance, they generally provide small passives or situational counters. Unlocking guns have a bigger impact but that happens quite fast.
Second dont worry about queue times, its about 1 min, the community plays three main game modes, Supremacy, Galactic Assault and Heroes vs Villains. Stick to those and its really quick. If you get put in a lobby waiting for more than 2 or 3 its most probably best to quit out and requeue.
Overall great game, would recommend grabbing even at full price, but its often on sale especially on steam where it often goes down to ÂŁ5
Donât forget co-op! Itâs probably the easiest way to level up!

I would add more to this. It can take quite a while to find a game on PC because there aren't as many players as before. Also, if you have all cosmetics unlocked it's because you got the "Celebration" edition. If you don't then you'll have to unlock most cosmetics using credits, that's what they're used for.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is arguably the best Star Wars FPS for the past 5 years. Its a shame that they've pulled the plug and stopped updating the game.

Ah, 2015, such simpler and better times in the Star Wars fandom. All cosy and playing Battlefront during winter season whilst the incredible and unfathomable hype builds up for The Force Awakens. I think I'm not the only one when I say how near and dear to my heart the 2015 - 2017 period was for me as Star Wars fan. There was so much excitement in the air, so much warmth. Nostalgia is truly a beautiful feeling. I couldn't be more grateful that I got to be allve during that period of Star Wars history.

I played this on PC about two months ago after I finished the Obi Wan series and there were still tons of players. I barely had to wait for any type of game mode.

Itâs a really well made game. Itâs got great gameplay that truly (and I hate to say this) makes you feel like a soldier on the battlefield. Not to mention the graphics and overall Star Wars aesthetic. Probably has the finest graphics of a Star Wars game ever and may be so for a good while. Quite unfortunate the game is abandoned by devs, but the final update of the game was a good sendoff for the series thus far. I really do hope EA and DICE get their act together soon so they can make fantastic games once again.

I don't know if you ever noticed this when revisiting this game, but co-op has matchmaking now and it's honestly my favorite game mode. You don't need friends to play. It only requires four players and is easy to play. I'd recommend it if you ever played again.

You need to try Co-op mode. It is a big deal because all of the progress you make there caries over to MP. It is a time based attack or defend in which 4 players and a few bots either have to attack or defend points on the map. It is great for learning a lot of the basics and what heroes you like playing as.
Yeah it also helps to upgrade your cards to compete with the People in MP

@@bakerboy7716 I am not saying main co-op of you are looking to get into and take seriously multiplayer. I am saying that Co-op should be the main mode for new player that are learning the game. It give you a chance to quickly level up all heroes and classes while learning about each and which classes and what cards with those classes work for you and level up the cards.
Of course a player with a plethora of real pvp experience will beat the player that mainly plays bots but co-op gives you a path forward to learn and level without having to get your teeth kicked in by live multiplayer all because you have no cards unlocked or leveled and zero clue how to play your class or what they can do.
Co-op is a chill gamemode i like it
There is a first person mode for soldiers and space ships if you feel its better or more comfortable only heroes, heroships, some veichles, special characters and such is locked into third person. The Battlefront games have both options.
I love the the first person mode itâs awesome
13:37 in the grand modes like supremacy there are like 10 or 20 bots on each side in addition to the 20 player per team. That makes it feel more like big scaled battles, also it adds some easy targets for new players.
Great video, it's just a shame it was made 2 years after they stopped supporting the game, which in itself is a controversy because EA stopped online support for Battlefront 2 in its prime to have the developers work on the next Battlefield game, and a couple years later when Battlefield 2042 came out, it turned out to be a disaster of a game. Anyways, a lot of Battlefront 2's servers are empty now, and if EA had just continued on working with Battlefront 2 instead of moving its team to work on an extremely mid Battlefield game, not only would there be a much more active playerbase still due to it receiving more updates, but also a lot more content they had planned on, such as more female heroes and villains, and maps like Mustafar, and I don't know about you guys, but I think having a battle on a frickin lava world is badass.

As a avid Battlefront player, the game does have a very loyal fan base that has stuck threw the thick and thin of the games run. When the game got added to the Epic Games launcher it reached its highest player count online at once 4 years after launch. The game is still sad to look back on cause the Devs have gone out to say they were going to add Courasuant and Ahsoka
The singleplayer Instant Action mode does a surprisingly good job of filling out that multiplayer itch when the player count is pretty low, and all star cards are automatically unlocked and max upgraded while playing it.
I've played this game since the beta in October 2017. I've seen this game's highest highs and lowest lows. I've played all the content this game has to offer. Let me say that it's a phenomenal game and if you've never played it before, there is tons and tons of content to get stuck into to!

@@aayushdas19 Yes. Last year, the game was free on PS Plus and Epic Games so if you're on one of those platforms you should always get into a full lobby.

The leveling was fixed 6 months later, but people had moved on or had a bad taste in their mouth (myself included). Iâd occasionally visit the game every few months until 2 years later, fall of 2019 the game got some updates and became incredible and my favorite online shooter and game of the generation.
Iâm not saying itâs the âbestâ or most innovative, but it became my most played game for the past 3 years.
But spring of 2020 they decided to stop supporting it right after they hit its peak. Still such a shame, hopefully a BF3 or something to scratch the itch is in the pipeline!

You just described me. Played it at launch, got terribly disappointed within 15 minutes, pulled out the disk and never put it back in. Such a disgrace of a âgameâ. So happy to see that theyâve added more stuff, I had no idea. Already gave my disk away years ago so now I gotta buy it again on a sale lol.
The game actually made one of the best comebacks when ea was still supporting it, specifically with the battle of geonosis update. The playerbase was going back up again but just as soon as they started to get the ball rolling in the right direction they announced that they would be ending live service for the game not too long after, regardless of their promises to support the game for years to come. If it weren't for the lack of new content I would have no doubts that this game would be thriving right now.

But yeah usually you have to actually pick something in play supremacy. For some reason the game is laggy at the start and eventually preforms better.
And you can switch between 1st and 3rd person.
First person is In the game itâs either holding up or down on the D pad and if I remember you can go into first person for everything but heroes. One of those also changes the view perspective from left to right if you tap it
Its the same button, if you press it switches shoulders, if you hold it switches between first or third I believe. But tbh the game was always meant to be played in third person.
Honestly you shouldâve made this video 2 years ago when it was popping. In 2019-2020 I put 200+ hours into this game I absolutely loved it after the fixes. Iâm sad they stopped updating it.
As a person who was born in the late 2000s I gotta say this is one of my favorite games. Growing up watching clone wars, this game really makes you feel like your in star wars with lasers and explosions everywhere. And with the amazing music in the background. One of the best feelings that I'll ever have.

But everyone who worked on BFEA2 and BFV left DICE. Engine team went to epic, everyone else to Embark.

If anyone is looking for a group to play battlefront 2 with, the 104th is still going strong within the game. Itâs a clone MilSim based on the 104th battalion, who served under Plo Koon and commander wolf. If Iâm not mistaken itâs still the biggest Star Wars MS around.
I once wrote an article for a college interview for a journalism course about the whole Battlefront 2 controversy when it was happening on January 2018. I essentially made a hit piece on EA.

Am I the only one who thinks Battlefront (2015) > Battlefront II (2017)? The gameplay, graphics, sound design, hero playability, the incredible diversity of choice (guns, skins, etc.) and overall experience is just so much better than the sequel, man - even if it's nostalgia talking, I genuinely think the 2015 Battlefront is better. God bless that wonderful game. It's an absolutely fantastic gem in Star Wars gaming history - immensely underappreciated.
I have a more intense nostalgia for 2015 and I think some things are better, but I do think BF2 is the overall better online game now, especially for the big modes.
I do prefer 2015âs small modes. Cargo was my favorite, but most of them I like better than Strike and Extraction. I like BF2âs Heroes better for large game modes, but actually preferred 2015âs HvV (I feel Iâm in the minority on that one).
Starfighter Assault in BF2 is leagues better than 2015âs Fighter Assault in my opinion. BF2 I think overall is the better game, but I feel 2015âs was the better Star Wars experience within a game. Both are great, though

If youâre a Star Wars Fan, then this game will never get old. Like a die hard one. I still play this game until this day, still fun. I mainly play Supremacy though.

The only online competitive game modes with bots are Supremacy (it fills in for missing players w/ bots so theyâre not always present) and Starfighter Assault where bots are always present along with the real players. Then of course COOP is focused on facing hordes of bots and is super fun in this game.
I remember when computers were run without any windows or buttons to use at all. If you had a file on a drive, you had to tell the computer where to find it with a drive name and a file name. Nostalgia lol

Leveling your cards up to purple is really really easy on every character imo. Every Wednesday is triple XP and every Sunday is double xp so hit up coop missions during those days and youâll level up in no time.

If your having trouble with multiplayer the game has a great offering of single player content. You have the campaign of course but you also have instant action where you can play large scale conquest (supremacy) from the original battlefront games and attack defence modes against bots which is actuslly a lot of fun. Plus you have the tdm arcade mode which also has star fighters tdm now
Most players play Heroes vs Villains or Supremacy. And at peak times you always find plenty of matches. Its really not a problem. This game is still going.

Bought it a couple of months ago since it was on sale and I gotta admit, it was actually good!

I feel like teh singleplayer experience is just to show the mechanics. Sadly it last a lot more than it should. Multiplayer is everything in this game. Wish lobbies and in-game communication was better
The cosmetics arent all unlocked for everyone, I think the edition on gamepass came with bonus content. The credits are typically used to unlock outfits, especially for heroes and villains

Iâm the last person on earth to defend EA, but: They actually have put out one single good Star Wars game! Fallen Order was actually pretty decent.
The thing is the people who made this were really loving to the game and cared a lot for it they were single handedly the reason for its comeback not ea but then ea killed it
Only real ones remember when Anakin first debuted in Battlefront 2 and was the most over powered unbalanced thing in video game history.
10:25 itâs because the edition that comes with the free game pass is the âcelebration editionâ which unlocks all skins that can be earned through credits
There are still some skins and voice/emotes that you would have to unlock through achievements though (fairly easy to get)
13:20 thatâs because you were playing the tutorial/arcade offline mode, multiplayer doesnât have any bots (asides from capital supremacy-they have bots in addition to the 40 in game players because it is all out galactic warfare)
16:09 selecting quick match chooses randomly from any multiplayer match-the lobby you joined was dead because youâre likely on a bad server and also on PC which is dead compared to console (still really active)
I play on xbox all the time and have absolutely no issues getting into games like you did here, I'm always in full lobby matches and the game runs perfectly smooth! You don't have to play 3rd person either
As an Xbox battlefront 2 player, can confirm that lobbies are not dead. Also, lobbies DO NOT FILL OUT WITH BOTS.
You only have to wait about a minute for full lobbies of 20v20 action.
Also, when set to your default region, the game will only put you in your regional match. Unless you go to EA Account in the game, where you can change that setting (I use it for getting into Irish servers and having duels there due to Irish server death) and play in whatever region you want to.
Dont worry about Star Cards because its really easy to level up, and when you hit level 100 with a base class character (assault, heavy, officer or specialist) you have all unlocks and upgrades. On that topic, hero and villain star cards all can be maxed out by level 41 and special forces max out at [30? May have to check that one]. And with the starfighter class, it's the same level as heroes.
The core game modes that the community plays nowadays is usually GA (Galactic assault), CS (Capital Supremacy) and HvV (Heroes vs Villains)
Whilst the other modes aren't played as much, it isn't impossible to find other game modes either.
Whilst I'm at it, here's some depth into the modes too. CS is like battlefields 5 point capture mode where you have to capture points for domination over the battlefront, I recommend having a 3 point hold (base points and C) as a main strategy. Only really look for 4 if its necessary.
GA strategies are something I rarely see. For example COVERING YOUR TEAM. In some maps like Endor, you need to either defend or capture some points and then defend or run around and try to destroy a rogue AT-AT. If you're attacking the ATAT, I think you should cover your teammates that have the Ion Cannons and let them blast the ATAT. If you're defending, get those ion cannons on lockdown.
In HvV, uhhh. Learn how to parry, and get good at dueling. Also, pray to the loving God Space Jesus that you don't come across a max level (level 1000) Iden Versio main because... Well... *VIETNAM FLASHBACKS*.
Basic rundown of things. Also, MilSim is quite common in battlefront 2 and they're cool ig. I wouldn't recommend as a new player though. In fact, I wouldn't recommend them at all.

The game was doing great after about half a year or removing micro transactions. I personally think that battlefront 2 PC sucks (could be wrong) because of the crashing I've just seen that I've never experienced on Xbox.

as a very casual gamer i have the most fun in Co-op, even going in solo. Since it's only 4 human players it's very fast matchmaking and you get put into big battles w/ some AI teammates against hordes of AI enemies. You get big scale star wars battles on-demand and it's usually chill, sometimes intense, always a great time.
Absolutely criminal that he didnât play Ewok hunt.
I like the game these days, still play it often. tip: you can unlock everything for free really fast by playing co-op, because you're playing against ai's, it's easier.
Fun fact: I DIDN'T play videogames when I grew up, my SISTERS did. We had all the consoles you'd expect like a PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox Original, Xbox 360, Xbox One, GameCube, N64, WII, WII U, and a DreamCast.
The only consoles we actually used was N64, WII U, Xbox 360, ps3, ps4, and a WII.
All we played on the Nintendo ones where Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart WII, and the rest? Minecraft Wii sports, Just Dance 2012, Just Dance 2013, Kenect Sesame street book of monsters, and Toy Story 2: Rescue Woody (N64).

Just a reminder that a manufactured hate train basically tanked this game because people couldnât handle using in game credits to open boxes to get things and the loot crates everyone finds so objectionable were turned off for maybe 6 months. BF2 is one of the best examples of an internet hate mob torpedoing a great game for basically no reason other than muh loot boxes
Quick match is broken because is not actually looking for a random lobby, it MAKES a random lobby that chooses random game modes instead of looking for available matches in other modes.

The star cards won't make or break you. It's a mental thing. I've been whooped by guys with no star cards and I've been whooped by guys with full star cards. That's where most people fuck up in this game. Confidence. I started playing 2 years ago, and there was some real monsters in the water, eating me alive. Now I am one of the monsters. Just takes tenacity. Can't be afraid to lose.
It was good 6 months into the game. EA simply lost the ip and the developers were moved on other things.
itâs unfortunate they stopped updating the game when it was in its prime during 2020-2021. started playing this game again a few days ago and itâs still very fun!
The game was much better sooner than this past 5 years, the player base was thriving but EA pulled the plug on the game while it was at its peak player base and prime for content, so most players just left due to lack of updates and not really the stuff that happened at the beginning of the games life
It's genuinly amazing that a corporation was so god damn greedy that another corporation had to say "dude, chill."
This is how it was in 2019-20, they haven't added to it in years. It pretty much got here 2 years later. They abandoned the paid lootboxes before launch, but the whole thing is so overblown that so many people, like Luke, are kind of clueless about it. Also the queue is not an issue, just don't use quick match.
The game has been good for like 4 or 5 yrs now. I was at the beginning when u truly had to grind an they changed all that updated everything, cool af characters. The campaign while shitty was still something that 2015 didn't. Man miss playing this game
this game was abandoned for 2042 that's just insane seeing what 2042 is now 1 year after launch
The reason all of the skins were unlocked was because, on game pass the version downloaded is the "Celebration Edition" Which just means that you get all cosmetics and emotes.
And the reason for there being bots is the Supremacy mode, which has 20 players on each side (40 players total) and then it will spawn a bunch of bots like 20-40 more on each side (which is fun if you want to go on theese 50-100 kill streaks). And you experienced a glitch, where you join a game with only 1 or 2 people and youre stuck in the picking character screen until you leave. Its NOT because there isnt anyone playing, its a known glitch thats been there forever.
If you want to only play against real people only, Galactic Assault is the way to go, since there are no bots in that game mode, and its practicly the same as capital supremacy just on a smaller scale, but still with 20 on each side.
And starfighter assault has been pretty dead since it wasnt dice that worked on it, and the company that did either left or shut down, so there hasnt been any update (apart from a few tweaks) since about 2018
I'm running the game through steam, and 4k runs just fine. I've also never encountered a crash aside from mods messing with the game. Lobbies in heroes vs villains usually have a lot of players but unfortunately supremacy is often dead. The game's absolutely worth it as long as you buy it on sale, and it's not too buggy anymore. The only thing I hate about the game is the hit boxes are really bad lol.
Battlefront 2 players didn't stop playing because of the bad launch but because it was discontinued.
The problem I have for the game are the following:
- everyone with a ranged weapon fights like a sniper. And you can shoot any enemy from a long distance with one shot. Unless your weapon is primarily a sniper gun, this shouldn't happen. But overall, most gameplays end up looking like a snipers haven.
- jetpack. They should've kept this feature available only to one particular class in each Party of the saga except maybe the Separatist droids. It was alright for the Dark Troopers to have it in the 2005 game. It only flew for a few seconds and you'd have to recharge it to use again. The recent game has almost everyone using it making the gameplay feel like a cartoon shootout from long distance.
EA's Battlefronts are such an insult to the originals. How they they use the Battlefront name when the games have no similarities to Battlefront or Battlefield for that matter.
For new players quick play typically puts you into games that need players so games that havent started are the most common
It's been playable and great for years. They did a 180 after launch and a few months later it was great, especially after the clone wars update.
Skins are unlocked if you have the celebration edition. You have the normal grind to unlock in the base version (at least on Xbox). Also, never use quick match, it never works. Also the Xbox and PS servers have significantly more players than the PC servers, I've never had the issues populating lobby's like my friend on PC has, and there are more players in the evenings in all servers.
Idk if he ending up finding out in the video yet but Iâm halfway through but the cosmetics werenât given out for free per se it was a pack you could buy called the celebration pack which unlocked pretty much all the appearances
Ngl apart from the toxic rank 500âs itâs a very fun arcade shooter that needed 1 more year of content for it to be perfect 7/10 for me tho
You can get crates if you complete challenges, so you don't have to pay for them.
This game has an incredibly committed fanbase

Also the only mode that has bots is supremacy and ship modes.
Another note: Star cards make a difference, but not so much that a new player canât kill someone full leveled.
Also I play this game exclusively in first person (except where I canât obviously)

No game pass gave you the "celebration edition" which gives you a lot of cosmetics, although those aren't very monetized, now you have to unlock credits for them

"SOME"?!?! My guy. That "some" reverb had them cheeks flapping so violently they might as well have been a lone flag in a hurricane.
Like you know that scene in Tangled in the bar, where Rapunzel uses her hair to snap tree branch or something on big dudes head and his entire body rippled? That's what that reverberating fart was like, but cranked up several notches.
That reverb fart reminds me of my childhood, how I would blow into the top part of the straw of my MacDonald's drink, and watch the soda aggressively bubble up and burst and you could see, hear and FEEL the pressure built up at the bottom of the cup.
Hvv is entirely real players. Super fun gamemode and can get pretty sweaty.
Just to be clue crates in battlefront 2 now aren't loot boxes anymore, what's in the is preset, it's just how the game gives you multiple things at once now
It had problems, but despite the issues if they kept updating for at least 2 more years it could have been amazing.
We where on the cusp of something great.

Hello, just to let people know. The Quick Play does work it takes 20min. or less for waiting for players. Most people do not play Quick Play, and people rather play supremacy more. The Quick Play is not really fun for players to play a short period of time. Most players for Quick Play, potentially they play over the weekends. Sorry, my grammer sucks....đ
You don't really struggle with finding players unless you're playing some obscure game modes
This game always breaks my heart. HOW COULD THEY CUT IT IN THEIR PRIME, especially after hearing what theyâd planned for the future.
Even playing this this week, I don't think I've ever waited longer than 30 sec for a match
