    I am a native Spanish speaker, I'm learning Italian, it's a beautiful language with so many similarities to Spanish, verbs in their infinitive form also have three possible endings which are basically the same but without the e. For I, we say yo, for You we say tu, for He/She we say el/ella... the point is they're very similar.

    Grazie mille per questo. It surprises me how many Italian language teachers on CZcams omit basics like ' What is a mode ? ', ' What is a tense ? ' or ' What are Parts of Speech ', usually dismissing them as ' dry ' or ' boring ' grammar. I promise you it's often difficult to simply find out what they are in English. I had no idea verbs, nouns etc were grouped together as ' Parts of Speech '. It's also interesting to see how many teachers repeat so often phrases like ' Don't worry ', ' It seems scary ' or ' You don't need to know that '. I bow to your experience but I reckon there are thousands like myself who don't have any fear but we severely lack the structure of how various languages are put together and appreciate when people like yourself explain so called ' Simple grammar concepts ' to those of us for whom they are anything but. Cheers.

      @theintrepidguide  Před 2 lety +1

      Figurati! I'm so happy you appreciate the "boring" details. I really like learning about them too as they great for building confidence. Are you currently learning Italian? What is your level? In bocca al lupo!

    • @tallblokeadventures
      @tallblokeadventures Před 2 lety

      @@theintrepidguide Si, provo studiare la lingua ogni giorno. Direi che è dappertutto ! Meaning that it's all over the place ! Historically vocabulary has never been an issue, putting phrases together has. I'd heard of nouns, verbs etc but never knew that they can be classed together or how they interact. Grammar, like any subject, doesn't have to be boring, it depends on how it's taught. I like that you mention ' patterns ', I find that sort of mindset helps me a lot. As a suggestion / request, while I'm well aware that tenses are different between Italian & English I'd appreciate any video where you compare and contrast. Auguri.

    Ok so the stem changes, for the irregular verbs. For example dire, if you were to say “I say” it would be io dico. But if I were to say “you say” it would be voi dite. Meaning the stems would be dic and dit. I’m just a little confused why they change and if it’s just something I have to memorize.

    Apparently Russian is the same (I don't speak Russian by the way)

    Spanish at Beginners Level.I do not
    understand any of it.The Grammar,,Speaking,
    Listening,Etc.,I do not understand.In all the
    Languages I have done,I would say I have
    got two out of ten.I shall be doing the
    Italian Course again next month.I will get
    two out of ten again.I will do my best.My
    best is not good enough.I shall give it a try.

    Explained well,but maybe 2,possibly 3 videos would make it all easier to digest!Otherwise,as a novice,It Is Daunting...

    Excellent explanation. Thank you. Respectfully I suggest not to use a background music with these classes. It sort of muffles your voice and it is very distracting. Grazie mille!

    Just to let you know,from my last comment,I have now given up on the Italian Course I was doing.
    I did my best,but my best was not good enough.I ask myself,should I give it another go,in the next
    two years.I do not know.There must be a way.

    Be careful, as you all tend to pronounce single consonants as double. For example you read -ano as -anno and the opposite, you read double as single, like sono=sonno (instead of "they are" becomes "sleep"). So single consonant are single, double are double, simple right??

    Great video and she’s wonderful. My only issue is that she goes way to fast. Please slow down for us older novice learners.

      #1. If you look at the small round circle-it looks like a tire-along the bottom right of the video, your can slow down and speed up the video. Sometimes I speed up when I am reviewing vocab.
      #2 Sometimes that tire/circle allows you to change into your native or a foreign language for captions as well.
      #3 The three little doubts at the bottom right underneath the video sometimes will allow you to see the transcript of the video.

    I know this is an old vid but I have a question. Why is lei seen as formal? I thought lei meant she and lui meant he. Why would they be described as formal or informal when their just describing someone’s gender.

    • @theintrepidguide
      @theintrepidguide  Před 19 dny +1

      lei = she
      Lei = you (formal) notice the capital letter which is not always used. It’s optional.
      lui = he
      Also note that in Southern Italy, voi is formal form, not Lei 😊 Don’t think of it as just gender but as how to correctly address people according to formality and number.
      This is just a characteristic of the language that must be learned just like in English we have words that are spelled the same but mean different things eg. ‘I read every day’ vs ‘I read the book yesterday’.
