Where is South Sudan's Oil Money Going?

  • Upon South Sudan’s independence in 2011, many hoped the country’s oil wealth would help build the state and lift citizens out of poverty. Instead, politicians have shunted these revenues toward patronage and personal enrichment, feeding internal conflict. Transparency and accountability are badly needed.
In this video, Alan Boswell, Crisis Group's Senior Analyst for South Sudan, explains the journey of oil revenues in South Sudan from oil production to the national expenditure budget.

That's why public employees are paid about 10USD per month, which are not paid regularly. I now understand how the oil money is scattered to so many directions that few are able to benefit from it. This country is totally dependent on aid from abroad. So sad....

Thank you for the brief explanation. We would be interested to know how the main geopolitical players are involved in the Sudanese oil / oil revenue mismanagement since there is a lot of fake information going around.
Also where is the Sudanese government spending the corrupted oil money mainly (follow the money)?
