I still to this day love her, I live in Kentwood down the street from her mom on Lewiston rd., and when she used to come home everyone would treat her like a regular Human being not a celebrity. She is really a nice woman in person. I see he mother and sister all the time at Walmart in Amite Louisiana. Though her parents are so cruel to her and used her, they used to be great parents to her until they got money hungry her dad especially. Britney, you rock and we all miss you in South Louisiana. i was two weeks & two days from turning seven when the album came out & i said i was her boyfriend, not justin & had the biggest fucking crush on her. i even pictured myself in a wedding with her & still remember what it looked like. i saw her dream within a dream tour on june 21 2002 here in indiana at conseco fieldhouse!!! i even saw her sound check a few hours b4 the show & my dad got me vip passes! :D a few weeks b4 the show i got a card from her staff in the mail thanking me 4 writing letters 2 her & it said i could have a chance 2 meet her b4 the show!!! but i didnt get 2 :( there was a contest where a fan could win a life size pepsi standup of her & my dad got me one! i still have it but idk where it is. i wanted 2 get her a gift so i bought her a white bear with a red ribbon around its neck. after the sound check they handed out signed pictures of her & i got one! i still have it in my room. im gonna keep it 4 the rest of my life! i kept asking my dad if she was gonna cancel it. now i know he was just tired of it but he said if i did one more time he was gonna call her people & tell them 2. i thought he was serious so i stopped. he warned me the show wouldnt start right away & there were gonna be opening acts. i dont remember who they were but they sucked & i booed them. the show took 4ever 2 start & i was sooooo impatient. but at 9:15 it finally did. i made a sign 4 the show & wrote “i love britney” on it. i was dying 2 get a shirt at the show but my dad thought the tickets were expensive enough & said no. i was sooooo pissed but i kinda got over it when the show started. after the show i thought i heard im a slave 4 u when we were leaving so i stopped him, listened & i did. somebody was listening 2 it in their car. it was the best night of my life & i’ll never ever 4get it. i was seven & she was my first concert! my old friend’s mom got me a shirt in 2006 but i lost it :( i just wish i met her :( now im 26 & i still love her & always will! go britney!!!

So yes, it's perfectly legitimate for someone like Britney Spears to sing "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" because despite the fact that she makes pop music, her lifestyle has pretty much always been one of a rockstar.

@@williamrobin5207 I think you didn't get my point. I wasn't talking about rock'n'roll as a music genre but as a lifestyle. Like I said, Britney makes pop music but I think this cover in particular is symbolic. Pop is what she does. Rock is what she is. At least that's my interpretation.
Plus, this song is part of the OST for Britney's 2002 movie "Crossroads" in which she plays, Lucy, a sweet innocent girl next door wanting to break that mold and figure out who she really is. In order to do so, she tries to display a sexier and edgier side of herself. Hence the fact that she and her girl friends chose this song to sing in the karaoke bar scene of the movie. You could even argue that this isn't even Britney we see in the video but her character Lucy, since @ 1:05 you can see the name "Ben" written on her hand. And, in the movie, Ben is Lucy's love interest.
In fact, Britney and Lucy's respective paths are very similar (or at least were, at that time). In 2002, Britney, then at the peak of her career, was seen as the ultimate living Barbie doll. She was starting to express the strong desire to break away from that image. Covering a song like "I Love Rock'n'Roll" which was so far from her usual register wasn't about the music itself. It was a statement.
