A lovely film and great to see the old girl rigged and equipped as she should be. I am reminded of myself in the 60s & '70s by the "rabble" crew: they might have the enthusiasm but not yet the onboard discipline to keep everything as shipshape as it should be. The mile or more of cordage is more than a handfull, the sheer weight of handling the sails, the trim of all the blocks and the weight of an old lumberer like this (I love her), is beyond the imagination of anyone who has never done it. To handle her in a confined space In the days of her youth there were all sorts of quarter-boats and harbour launches, hufflers and linesmen to attend her as she came into harbour. With todays little plastic tubs with a motor and sails like a pocket handkerchief it might give the appearance to most, that they just sail onto the mooring, drop their nylon handkies, tidy up the ball of string (their running rigging) and pour the next gin. I can assure you that without a motor and no modern ponteeoning and no attendaint shore men, it is a hard to imagine bringing the old beast onto a mooring. Well done those French Lifeboatmen but next time, don't run the tow over the handrails!! they go under and run flush to the deck to your winch or bollards. Paul in France

This beautiful ship is now in Den Helder, The Netherlands. Is laying there for some years, slowly deteriorating. I hope she once will be fully restored to her old glory!!!

Wooden ships men of steel now it's steel ships & men of wood. Use the sails to drive the boat, tenders to row the boat in & using the tide to assist. must be a legality thing about sailing into the harbor.

Just beautifull, not just the boat, but also the idealism behind it! Thank's for posting. A question: How did they bring these big three, four masters into the harbour to unload their cargo before the age of motor boats to tug them in???

They worked the tides and the wind, sailed them in, I've done it on Danish sailing ships with Danish skippers who know how to sail but back in the day there were a lot of shipwrecks too!
This is the nonsense of these hippies thinking they are saving the planet! You cannot run a commercial business in outdated vessels in harbours not geared for sail. It's not rocket science to see it's impossible but there will always be romantic fools who think they can.

Read @PC24800 's comment: harbor launches etc. Before motorization, you put a few guys in a rowing boat attached to your ship, and yell at them.

This Ship doesn’t have an engine it’s parts of the Tres hombres shipping company . Which only uses sail to import fair trade goods from the Caribbean into Europe. They usually pull up before a European port and get the Local port authority to tow them in . Low environmental impact

You can’t sail into most ports…you have to come in under motor. They’re afraid you’ll bump into the other yachts if you sail. So this boat, that doesn’t have an engine, had to be towed in and later out of the port to open water.
