Thanks from Switzerland - well explained! There is another, maybe easier way. You can format the original Tesla USB Drive (mine is 128GB) with two ExFAT Partitions. One 64GB "TESLADRIVE", the other 64GB "Media" or whatever you want. Then Copy your "TeslaCam" Folder back to the 1st Partition, and your Music to the 2nd one. It recognizes both, you can use all from one Pendrive, no Hub needed.
I can confirm. This is the way to go with less muss and fuss with cables. ExFat for both partitions and you are ready to go. Just be sure there is TeslaCam folder on one of the partitions (that messed me up at first). RIP Boombox - such a fantastic feature that other cars are wired for (via back woofer) but NTSA decided NO to Tesla's specifically.
Also, inside the console storage area, there are 2 usb-c ports. So just get a usb-c flashdrive (or combo usb c/a falshdrive if you can't load files by usb-c) and put your music files in there rather than in the glovebox. Also, usb-c is faster, so it'll run your music better anyway!
Oh Boy! You are great. Now I finally know how to play music. I didn't know that only the USB port inbox is functional for this- Thank you very much indeed for this input. Go on!
Informative video. Thank you. The USB 3 hub works a treat. I now have my Tesla (Dashcam) drive in the first port and a 2nd USB drive with all my music in the second port. All my mp3 files include ID tag information which the Tesla USB app reads, and then allows you to select the music by song, artist, or album. It even displays the album art when the track is playing.
You could just partition the drive and would be able to use it for both tesla cam and music without any additional devices. I had a 240gb drive which I partitioned and using it.
Do you know if we can combine music and the LightShow folder on the same partition and or single drive? If not maybe we need 3 partitions. TeslaCam, LightShow, MP3/WAV music
The Tesla owner manual states that the USB C ports inside the centre console can be accessed by the car as well. The only reason that they put a USB A port in the glovebox is to secure the sentry mode disk. P19 of the Tesla Model 3 Owners Manual 2021-32 Australia : Model 3 has two USB ports located in the front compartment of the centre console. These ports can be used to 1. Charge USB device, 2. Play audio files stored on a phone or USB device
I'd rather use two separate USB devices. The dashcam device is constantly reading/writing and it does get warm. I've heard that is why the official Tesla dashcam thumbdrive has metal housing to dissipate heat.
Do you know if we can combine music and the LightShow folder on the same partition and or single drive? If not maybe we need 3 partitions. TeslaCam, LightShow, MP3/WAV music
It is in fact much easier and cheaper. You just need to create two partitions on your flash drive and that's it. The most important. For Camera filesystem needs to be exFAT and for music FAT32.
In theory it's possible to split a single 64Gb USB drive into two 32Gb particians and use one for the Teslacam and the other for music. This works but on my M3 the music would skip about once a minute. I’m not sure if this is because of the particianing or just that the Tesla music software is not very good. I use the USB port for the cam and play music from my phone.

I noticed when you accessed your USB on the tesla it was displaying the SONGS item on the left side of the screen and the individual songs on the right side. There are other options on the screen below the SONGS. The last one is FOLDERS. If I had a USB stick and made folders that contained different types of music, can each of those folders be accessed and only music played from those folders. Also, does tesla allow you to play RANDOM songs or does it only play the songs in a specific order no matter which selection you make i.e. SONGS OR FOLDERS. Thanks in advance for any helpful info you can supply. Can't seem to get any information on how this works.
Great directions. I have a 2021 too I'm learning about and put a SSD bigger dashcam/sentry mode as the small one only lasts about 1 hour. Any chance the bigger recommended one will play music and do the sentry watch? ( Samsung T7 Portable SSD - MU-PC500T/AM - USB 3.2 (Gen2, 10Gbps) External SSD - 500GB - Grey)
This method not working for 22 model 3. Only 1 data usb device supported but also support 2 separate partition one for music and another one for cameras. No other options now. Ridiculous for $60+ "smart" car
I did what you said on my 2024 Model 3, and the music plays fine for a day. The next day, the songs all show loading error. I had to reboot the car to recover it. but I cannot reboot it everyday. How to resolve this problem?
Ok how old are you?! You are amazing!!!! Love you! Your newest fan! I heard there are USB ports behind the console somewhere. That’s how you popped up on my feed when I was looking for it. Just got my Tesla 3 2021 yesterday and I have an iPhone 6S it won’t charge it!! Now I need to get a new phone (ok long over due), but until then how do I charge my phone? Is the only way in the glove compartment?
there are 2 more USB in the back right where the event airs are , those are use for charging, you need to get the USB-C type and best money saver no is buying the USB-c type adapter and call it the day
Thanks from Switzerland - well explained!

OMG Love this method better! Thank you!!!
Can you have more than 2 partitions? Like one for sentry, one for music, and on for other media like movie files?

I just tried both of these options exactly. The music shows up on the screen, but when I go to play any song I get 'Loading Error'. Any help?
Only the glove box USB port is data enabled on the latest production. The other ports are for charging power only
@@JazJonFL yep, spent hours trying to get these to work, thinking my drive was faulty. WTF Tesla?!
Such a well spoken young man! You have a bright future ahead of you!! 👏

Great job! Very clear and concise. You have a natural ability to "meet the public." Keep it up! Thanks

Terminology is all over the place, but otherwise, nice job. Video makes sense, and is informative. :) Thanks for sharing.

iam from france in few days iam going to take delivery of my model 3 i was wondering how to play my music stored in my usb now i know thanks again
Did you try creating 2 partitions on your Sandisk USB; one for TeslaCam and the other for music? Should work.
Thanks, I’ll give it a try
can you share how you created 2 partitions on the USB drive?
I have a 1TB thumb drive and it won't create 2 partitions - can't shrink the primary partition. so not all thumbs can be partitioned,
I'd rather use two separate USB devices.
The dashcam device is constantly reading/writing and it does get warm.
I've heard that is why the official Tesla dashcam thumbdrive has metal housing to dissipate heat.

Thank you! Helped me 🎉🎉

Great video. Does it only work for ONN usb-hub? Or any USB hub works? Thanks.
Very helpful, keep up the great job man!
i used a hub, and it worked fine - thank you.

Very useful and meaningful video 👍
Hi, thank U for this. but, the USB turns very hot while using it that way. it went over aproximatly 50 deg'. Did u also nothiced this fenomena???

I found the solution to it. Just use voice command to play USB music. It works fine now.
Very interesting!!
Glad you think so!

"Re-insert USB into glovebox for higher-speed"
Very good info
So if I format USB using the center console, wondering would it only format the teslacam stick?

More tesla vids!!!!
actually i wanna buy a tesla, i asked the dealer ,does the car has usb port for music, he did not know, so i ask on youtb , and this video pops up
Good boy!
I'm not sure if this is a M3SR+. But, on my M3LR '21 has 2 usb-c ports.
Good video. Keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
You had me at glovebox, thanks much.
wait, you didn't play your weird music on ur usb
I don't think you have a 2021 Tesla Model 3, there is USB port in glove box.
What format does the USB have to be? Also does it recognise all music formats like MP3 & WAV files?
Fat32
can be exfat also.. after recent update
would this work with video files as well?
Why did it re-name your songs into random characters?
It’s arabic nitwit
@@andymeijer1117 thanks, but why did you have to call me a nitwit? do we really need more random negativity in the world?
@@zippyzee actually you are right…There was no need for that, my apologies!
Thanks Kid. Here is another tech issue I had to troubleshoot related to USB's in Tesla: czcams.com/video/FVMzDonHBRk/video.html
What happened to the names of all the song tracks? Its all the same song..
aren't you a bit too young to be driving? let along owning a tesla?
Thanks for the video
Our pleasure!
thank you so much
