@@durk5331 Right? I feel like being a business man doesn't make you a 'hack' like op (and a lot of people) say about Edison. It just makes you smarter then the inventors, in that you were able to do something with the invention as opposed to just sell it for some paltry sum. If I was any of the inventors that sold out to Edison, I would be like, "Well played... I'm glad I didn't have to do all that work in popularizing and bringing that invention to life".

There has been numerous answers about that and sadly if you try to look up the real inventors name, you always get Thomas Edison taking credit as the answer. I think it was Humphry Davy as the real inventor, although many people thought it was Faraday or Tesla.
Actually, if you go to a typical grocery store, the spice rack is indeed alphabetized. There are dozens of spices these days, and it's hard as heck to find what you're looking for if they're not organized alphabetically.
To be fair, if anyone mocked you for making the financial decision rather then going for the million and very likely losing… just ask them if they have 500,000. Chances are likely they don’t so :P

Before computer solitaire arrived, I knew that you could play solitaire for money in casinos, you bought the deck for a dollar a card, and got back $5 for every card you played up. You only had to play up 11 cards to make a profit. I figured I was good at solitaire, I'd have to try it if I ever went to a casino. Then my first computer solitaire game kept a running score, -52 per each game, +5 for each card played up. I went deep in the hole sooo fast and never recovered. So I've never gone to a casino.

Even if you did win any money, I believe you are not only taxed on it in the state you live in, but the state that where ever you won the money in as well. That and not all game shows fully pay for all of your travel expenses, so you wind up losing more on that as well.

I’m pretty sure my 4th grade history class did NOT cover the Industrial Revolution, that was just state history, national history wasn’t until 5th grade. And while I know the Industrial Revolution did affect my home state of Indiana, 4th grade history in my school only covered how the Industrial Revolution affected Indiana. And I’m pretty sure most grade school texts do NOT say what the exact shape the Washington Monument is. I only found out what the shape is from reading Rick Riordans books about Egyptian Mythology. The questions on that show are not the same stuff taught at every school in America because each educational institution has its own core parts of the curriculum they try to teach, which most are based on each state’s educational standards.
Sorry for my rant, but I just find AYSTA5G stupid because you are assuming that every single American classroom teaches the exact same thing, and really the show isn’t about winning money, it’s about showing how stupid Americans apparently seem to be. I’m not saying we’re the sharpest tools in the shed when it comes to academic intelligence, but we are by far not the dumbest.
