The videos of T&T is glossy and it is not what people see or experience when they visit Trinidad, unless they are cocooned by wealth. In that case most countries are glorious to visit. However, it is unsafe to walk the streets in Trinidad, not only because of the high crime rate and no go areas , but the uneven, broke, and sometimes dangerious pavement. In parts of the capital, you need to carry a small step ladder to get up to the pavement. Occasionally, there are open manholes, dangerious and sometimes smelly gutters pedestrians have to jump over (if able bodied , but lethal if you are blind or partially sighted, or physically disabled). Sometimes, the pavement just disappear and you find yourself walking in the street against fast moving traffic. Trinidadians that drive everywhere are often clueless about the hazards, faced by folks who have to negotiate, where and how they walk every day . Equally so they are clueless about travellers like me, who likes to explore a country by foot (where ever possible ) and soak up the culture and traditions to discover the beating heart of the country.
The basic infrastructure is incongruous with some of the buildings and structure in Trinidad. It is putting the cart before the horse! Surely, govts have a duty and responsibility for the safety and security for their civilian first and formost. Pedestrian have a human and civic right to be safe and secure on pavements . Equally, everyone has a human and civic right to be safe in Trinidad and Tobago and should be able to walk alone anywhere without fear of being assaulted or dying!
Why has a small island with a police force have no and dangerious enclaves?
Why are the citizens of the country putting up with that and the burgeoning crime rate?
Carnival is a Christian festival and found in many countries around the world.
It is a bit embarrasing and outdated for Trinidad to boast the greatest show in the world. Trinidad carnival is no longer a great show.
In recent years it has become l a hedonistic baccanalia. An orgie of trashy, promiscuous behaviour of doggy sex between men and women in the streets. It is not conducive for young impressionable children /adolescent to experience.
The fact that so many educated professional countenance such loose morals tell us why Trinidad and Tobago has lost its credibility in the Carribean.
