As some have pointed out, it's better to always salvage and then just sell the Jewel Fragments you get from salvaging afterwards. One jewel fragment is worth 1000 and you usually get 10+ per item so it's much more worth salvaging and then selling the jewels.
Regarding certain weapon types that scale off different values it's safe to assume if you play aggressively with say spear which scales off earth/wood(a few do wood) that mixing fire virtue to improve spirit gain and usage would improve the efficiency of that combat style?
Only people who spent weeks farming for perfect stat gear in Neoh will truly appreciate how big of an improvement this crafting system is.

Crafting is better but combat is so dumbed down. All weapons are basically just square and r1+square/triangle
I kinda miss it to be honest lol I’m crazy I know but knowing I grinded for the best build just makes it feel more rewarding.
I played around 70-80 hours in Nioh and still couldn't craft a weapon that I saw in a youtube video. At one point I just gave up and completed the whole game with that bluish purple katana. I don't remember what it's called. Also Nioh was way too overwhelming for me. Too many skills, spells and what not. Even now if I decide to play nioh, I have to watch a beginner's guide on youtube.
Besides all the farming I also waisted days save scumming.

Always salvage. You can sell the jewelry fragments from salvaged items for much more than you would make from selling the item flat, while also acquiring upgrade materials and new enchants if available.
Came here to say this lol. Once I found out each jewel fragment sold for 1000 I immediately sold all 9999 of my fragments and now I just don’t have money issues anymore. Always salvage. Definitely not like nioh where you have to do money farms.

Really great guide as always Cowboy! The weapon scaling thing was throwing me because in previous team ninja games a specific weapon type would have set scaling, so switchglaive was your mage weapon as an example. But in wo long I've been finding spears with different scaling so it confused me a bit.
So far I love the QoL changes brought forward from their previous games, I love team ninja for that. Like they really seem to grt player feedback and are happy to try new things but change it if it doesn't work. Lots of exciting things to come for wo long too!

I haven't really seen anyone mention this, but some slots on weapons are "worth more," like if you want to put Damage Dealt on one of your weapon's three slots, you may find one slot will give you +2.1%, one will give +2.3% and one will give +2.5%. I don't think the game says anything about this and I'm not sure if you can get multiple "tier 3" slots on a single weapon, but it's useful info for prioritizing the stats you really want on whatever weapon you're building out.

from playing this and watching the videos, this seems like a great way to get into nioh. I've tried nioh 2 and never finish ng because I get lost with how to actually make a build. but this game has the same assets but streamlined. I think imma jump back on nioh 2 after I finish wo long
Another easy way to get a tiger seal is to enter mission 2 and grab the tiger seal on the path shortly after the spawn point, leave the mission, and repeat.
Kudos me & you apparently are the only actually streamers that have played dynasty warriors that actually play wo long.. Everyone else is comparing it to games that at first glance it seems similar too, But really we both know its just a updated DW Strike Force & its awesome!
good job cowboy, curious to see diff build types as time goes on. Wonder about how far the benefits go for going mostly water. Fire seems like the best.

Your videos are the best. I’m here from playing Nioh 2 recently. Even though Wo Long is like Nioh Lite I’m still having heaps of fun with the combat. The companions are so dumb though, the AI is really bad. I’ve been not using them sometimes but I don’t want to gimp myself either
Regarding the followers, maybe you did not notice yet or you mentioned it and i missed it, but there is also the available mechanic of cheering them up so that they perform an attack by using r1+up dpad
I was more concerned with explaining the mechanics around their armor then their usage here, but correct.
With the virtue(stat) distribution seen in the build, do i use weapons that scale with fire, for best damage output?
As for other skills in other virtues, grabbing useful ones like defense buff and hp recovery ?
Sun Ce was one of my favorite characters to play in Dynasty Warriors. Kinda wish they brought back the tonfas from Nioh 2 for his set, but the dual halberds are cool, so I'm ok with that.

I play a fire/earth/wood build with dual halberds and spear snd so far I love it
I like the way we can navigate equipment in Nioh 1 & 2 better than in Wo Long. No need to go through every single one of them just by pressing the left or right directional pad. Now for Wo Long just only up or down which gives me a strange feeling. 🤣

So is there anyway to swap around martial arts? Or have to try and farm the ones you want on a weapon. Like I know unique weapons typically have a unique martial art but the 2nd general one on them seems to be random.
Don't sell weapons and armor directly. Instead salvage everything and sell Jewel Fragments - that will give you much more coppers. Which might be an oversight from Team Ninja, so use it until it's fixed.
Do I have to manually extract special effects to obtain them or will salvaging a piece of gear automatically extract its special effects and make them usable to me? Thanks!
Really hoping for a stealth based set in this game!!
The stealth stat only effects the range and speed in which enemies will start to notice you. If you run up to an enemy even with 99 water(I have 99 water) the enemy will always notice you almost immediately BUT if you use the blink water magic skill, you can teleport to close the distance without the enemy hearing you,be careful though because there is a set distance you teleport and if your not used to it,You'll teleport right into there sight line.
So is there no way to change a weapons martial arts. Also from my demo experience, it seems that cups of cordiality drop when completing acolades

Lu Bu Fengxian was the irl skill check of the Late Han Dynasty
I won't be surprised if he turns out to be this game's version of Oni Shibata (aka the 'Nightmare Boss').
Cups arent actually hard to find since u can replay battlefields and get them from certain chests 100% garunteed so ive already maxed all my Allys and havent beat the first playthru yet. U just start the battlefield run to the chest open it then go to a battleflag and travel to the same battlefield to reset the chest and rinse and repeat
Despite already knowing most of this from Nioh 2, I still learned what the different shapes for affixes actually mean lol. I had no idea.
Also, can someone confirm; single-use affixes can be added and removed an infinite amount of times without being lost, right? I have move my agility damage bonus one around a few times and not lost it, but would rather not mess about if it is at risk of RNG eating it.

What does the square green warrior symobol mean to the bottom right of your weapon/armor slot?

I doubt it. Lore wise, Lu Bu is known for two things, being the most feared warrior of the setting and betraying people left and right, not someone you'll want to make oaths with (how the companion system here is defined). Making him available as a companion will require a lot of Alternative Character Interpretation (tm).
Edit: I stand corrected. Having gone further in the story, I can see that this game's version of Lu Bu is quite different and could be a viable companion. The reason he can't be is due to what happens to him in the plot.
Does the skills of embedment in range weapons (bow, knife etc.) that u equipped is active even if u are not wielding it?
I really can’t find any info on this, so does anyone know the value of the secondary/tertiary attribute on weapon scaling?
For example, Sun Ce’s Dual Halberds scales primarily with fire, secondary with earth, and tertiary with wood. So, do I only need to focus on fire to see damage return? Or, do I also need to put points in earth? Could I instead put points in wood (as opposed to earth) as my secondary stat, and still see a similar return?
This has very little to do with builds, but I do wish they used a similar button layout for this as they did with nioh 2, R2 and up could change melee weapons, R2 and down would change range, and R2 and left or right could cycle through your multiple spell slots to let you use 12 or more spells. I find theres some useful ones in my trees, but sometimes I want a single target spell for the situation and other times an AOE. But then I have to ether tough it out or give up my utility spells that help keep me alive.
Yes i agree we should have more spell spots. Being able to use just 4 spell out of all wizardy feels really bad
so i don't need to un-embed a unique affix before salvaging? Salvaging will always extract any unique affixes on the gear?

Does the heal from Absorb Vitality scale? Or is it a set amount?
can you raise a weapon rarity like making a white weapon blue then purple then yellow or is it hard set nothing you can do about it
Does Oath Level only increase after finishing a mission and you get a set amount regardless of what you did in the mission or can I technically just raise the Oath Level to from 0 to 10 just by repeatedly killing a single enemy and resting at a Flag over and over again in a single mission?
I haven't tested it that in depth but just regularly using somebody it goes up pretty fast. There's also the cups which will significantly boost it as you saw

Hey cowboy do all your followers unlock once you beat the game in any region you go into? I've been playing on co op only and when my friends got off, I went back to the second area in the desert and only had one follower to pick from despite getting to part 4 after Lu Bu
Not all followers are available on every mission depending on what is going on in that mission. For example, at Hulao Gate, Hon Jing is not available because she's tending to the wounded. Likewise Sun Jian can't be used as a follower there because he's busy leading his troops.
Now hold on, Where can i get my missing 2000 cross bolts? I sat here looking for them but i used all mine in a battle scene and cant seem to get them to self replenish, is there a storage house? or something?
Any idea why I have guan yus set and I only have 3 set bonus when I am using everything?
The blacksmithing system is so much easier now. Judging by how weapons don't have lvls anymore, does that mean if you somehow lucked out at a high rarity weapon early on you're safe to invest heavily into it without fear of being outclassed immediately in the next zone?
Yep ideally you want your ideal weapon at 4 stars to support the most embedments even if initially it has garbage rolls. Not seen a way to swap martial arts on them so another albeit lesser consideration unless it's the focal point of your build. If it doesn't exist I hope they add the ability to swap around them as well.
the consumable enchants can you get them back if you equip it on weapon x, then try to remove it to use it on another weapon? or once used its gone and you gotta get another one?
You need to extract it off to use it again.

another question if i may: you showed us in the video zhang fei's weapon had an extractable enchant there, but if you extract it you will destroy zhang fei's weapon no? how do you get another version of the weapon?

I'm trying to decide if the game is worth buying. Anyone that has good things to say about this one, I'm a long time Kings Field, demon souls, dark souls, bloodbourne, nioh 1 and 2, elden ring player, my favorite type of games to play (Didn't like Sekiro) I've heard Wo Long has a lot of flaws on the PC version. Any and all advice on if it is worth a buy would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
If you don't really like sekiro, this may not be for you depending on why you don't like sekiro. Its simplier and pretty easy compared to Nioh 1 and 2. Play on console, pc port is having some trouble if you decide to get it. There isn't like command lists or especially customizable moves. The game is very fun though. Succeeds at making you feel like a badass. If you haven't already, play the demo first. If you don't like the vibes, probably won't be fun.

Lu Bei Swords work with wood but are best with Water. I think someone messed up.
There is no rarity upgrade i think. Cuz of this we should salvage all items expect 4 stars?
I can already see people getting mad because they have to play with summons to get the sets and that’s like using summons in DS/ER and for them that’s cheating😂
They could play the level Solo and replay them later to grind the companions?
I'm not mad or anything but I really just prefer to play without them. But since there's a trophy for maxing out the companionship I guess I have no choice.

Well being forced to use it in order to get the armors is kind of annoying and I can see somebody having an issue with it. Valid gripe. I don't mind at all though. In elden ring, there was literally no reason to gripe about other people doing something that you didn't want to do. It had nothing to do with how you choose to play your game

Can you help me understand the resistance in armour. See you have a fire build and the armour set has no resistance towards water (being your weakness) surely the fire set would want a high value in water and not fire like you've shown? Thanks
I'm using this set because it synergizes with the weapons which scale with fire. TBH you shouldn't worry that much about resistances because whether I have 100 water resist or zero it doesn't matter as long as I deflect the attack, and ultimately with A agility you should be deflecting everything that comes your way.

A agility is below 30% I believe, weight percentage will be blue.

Yes, and the ones that get used up can be reused if you take them back out.
@FightinCowboy Man, that sounds so much better than previous games. One more thing that I wanted to know is that are all of the embedded options that you had shown. Were they already listed, or did you extract every single option from other pieces that you didn't need or use?
Some were used and I failed to re-extract them. Like I said, lots of stuff I wish I knew earlier lmao

Now those ones are extracted once and in the reusable constantly The unique ones that have the five phases symbol like fire enchant are single use and have to be re-extracted
