Great to hear from you! You are doing a wonderful job transforming you space and the swales you created for the rainwater. With your limited access to water ollas do seem like the best at conserving water.

Glad I found this video. I saw a video yesterday that briefly mentioned ollas. I had no idea what they were. This video explains it well. Probably won't work well here in Kansas. Sudden freezes. 80F 3 days ago. 20F last night. THANKS for this video.

Glad it was helpful! This last storm system was pretty wild. We're praying for the farmers who already planted. You bring up a valid point. It would be great at the onset of summer and during that one hot week or two (I'm originally from Nebraska).

Looks like the bigger ollas are a better. You cannot (I think) overwater with them so the more volume the better. You need the have the space for them of course. I would try and leave them in the soil as long as possible to not disturb the soil biology. I wonder if they will last decades without removing them.

I hear a friendly challenge. I like it! And yes, overall I like the larger size. Less watering as often is a good thing. You reminded me...I wanted to do an experiment by filling an Olla above ground to see how water seeps through (if it doesn't evaporated instantly). It is good to hear from you--your thoughts are always so thoughtful.
