I just quit my job and left the big city of Toronto to move onto 40-acres of Canadian wilderness with a magical river. I am building an off-grid homestead with multiple cabins and structures from the timber on the land. I may have made a huge mistake as doing this at the start of Winter in late November may make general construction difficult if not impossible.
To all my viewers and subscribers, STRENGTH AND HONOUR! 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲
JAMES ALOFS
Hears Sophie Turner mention log cabins once, in an off topic and random interview. Builds an entire off grid log empire… in Winter.
😂😂😂 GOOD SIR, THIS MADE ME LOL VERY LOUD AND HARD! MAY THE GODS BLESS MY FUTURE HOMESTEAD WIFE SOPHIE TURNER!!!!
Well and she'd be a fool not to take him up on his offer.
James, reading the comments, it's clear that you have a strong, loyal support. Don't feel pressured to hit targets for our benefit. I personally, am loving the process and watching your skills grow. I think many youtubers burn out trying too hard to please the viewers. We're here for the long haul bro. I'm so glad I was here for episode 1, but I'm gutted I didn't get to binge this for several hours as well. CZcams, sort your algorithm out, this channel should have double the subs by now. Looking forward to getting my Wolfmilk hoodie.
P.S. Looking buff in that tee mate, Sophie doesn't stand a chance!
Sorry, Sophie is taken, off the market! At least for now😅😅😊
The world record for ice bathing is 3 hours and 11 minutes. Just saying...
Don't forget to keep tool batteries inside your coat so they don't freeze. 🔥
Hey Shep, I didn't discover this dude until he had 12 episodes. So I've been semi-binge-ing. Just finished 12 as you can see. James is a mystery in many ways.
@wildhomestead - if you can’t get your ATV to start when it’s sub-zero, get some hot coals from you wood stove and place them under the engine of the ATV to warm up (thin) the oil. Don’t want an actual open flame, just hot coals. After 25-45 mins, providing you have no low battery issues , your ATV will start. Just use a stove shovel to transport those coals to your ATV. Also, if it’s not already in there, you need to have a thinner viscosity oil for winter months in your area. You can change to a heavier weight (viscosity) when you get above 50 Farenheit. Great content, absolutely love this channel! It is among my top 3 I watch religiously. Keep at it, you’ll be to a million subs within the year! God bless
What are your top 3 out of curiosity
@@luisalmeida6276if you want a real log cabin build check out traplines and inlines he’s got the best build going on slow but it’s legit
@@luisalmeida6276I go Jim Baird and Xander and also this legend. Not in any order
@@luisalmeida6276what about the outdoor boys
I wanna go out to the homestead just to jump on the polar frigid water source
You may want to construct a pulley system for lifting your logs safer. Look at how Shawn James did his. He’s a wealth of knowledge.
Wow I just commented the same thing. Then saw your comment 😂
I had beed thinking about a pulley system for a few weeks now.
Nah he’s got this
I've said that weeks ago ,when he had that flag hanging from that cable.Raise the cable, and get a pulley with his come-a-long. Now he can use a pulley with a cable attached to his 4 wheeler.
I totally agree as well. My back hurts just from him pushing those logs up the steps, LOL!
Big old bloke in the uk watching a bloke in Canada building a log cabin. Not a prepper or survivalist just a bloke, making mistakes and telling us about the mistakes and then making the changes to hopefully make things better and telling us if it has made things better. Fabulous watch. Keep it up.
Li'l old geordie nana here. I'll second that. Been here since day one.. Love watching his progress. 😁
Bloke in Canada reading comments written by a bloke in UK who wrote about watching another bloke in Canada building a cabin.
One thing that has impressed me on this whole journey so far is you're not afraid to change things to make them better or to admit when something was done wrong initially. Cant wait for the next episode when the sleeping loft is done and more secure and safe than it would have been! Your definitely building things to last!
This could be a netflix show for real. The quality is insane man love you're content. Been here since day one.❤️
GOOD SER KUITERS, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PASSIONATE SUPPORT FROM DAY 1 I AM HUMBLED. I SHALL NOT LET YOU DOWN! MAY THE GODS BLESS YOU. BOTH THE OLD GODS AND THE NEW 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲
Better then Netflix in fact. This is fantastic content, Netflix pales in comparison.
Apologising to people you dont know for not getting the floor finished in your own house is so Canadian, i love it!
Come on peeps, give this guy a like after viewing. Only 871 likes and 4711 views. He deserves better 😊
on average likes are only 10 % of views
And he deserves a 100k subs
Please never stop making videos even when you build the homestead!!!
GOOD SER JAMMY. NEVER! EVEN AFTER THIS CABIN THERE ARE ENDLESS THINGS TO BUILD AND MAINTAIN! I EVEN ENJOY SHARING THE SIMPLE LIFESTYLE MOMENTS FROM THE WILD I THINK IT MAY BE CALMING FOR PEOPLE 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲
You are an inspiration sir
you can barely tell this guy used to be an entertainer 😂😂@@wildhomestead
@@wildhomestead might have to put some insulation or chinking behind the two by twelve ledger
otherwise you wont have any access
@@wildhomestead I would like to see a greenhouse built and a super nice outhouse bathroom! They are on my to do list as well!
I'm glad to hear that you are a carnivore. I have been on a carnivorous lifestyle for over a year now. I have never felt better. I am 65 years old and my lovely wife (we have been married for 40 years) told me that I wasn't in better shape since we met. Keep going my friend. I found your channel to be very interesting and your subscribers' number is snowballing. All the best my carnivore friend.
My new Sunday ritual is to wake up, make a bury-me-standing strong coffee, jump back into bed and watch the new Wild Homestead. Perfect start to the day.
Just wanted to give you a nod from a 59-year-old outdoor enthusiast female who loves all things WILD!!!! You have been a joy to watch and the best thing of finding you in June of 2024 is that I can binge your channel for hours on end. When you and Sophie get married, and have your 10 kids, keep that fun loving spirit and pass it along to the next generation of Wolfmilk babies, lol.
After watching you fasten up that 2x12 ledger board without first sealing up the logs behind it, it reminded me of my 23 year battle with MICE in my off grid, remote cabin ( which, by the way, is approx 40k NE of yours). They only need an entry point of 3/8” to ruin your nights sleep or contaminate your steak and cherries. As you build that cabin, looks like a pretty good job, always think of the critters who will always feel the warmth and smell the food in your cabin. Wire lath and foam will temporarily keep them out - easier to deal with now than when you’ve moved in. Good luck and thanks for the hours of entertainment - very interesting. Love the swims.😊
Trick an old timer gave me.....was put turpentine in little containers close to and under the cabin...... I've done it...... and no more mice..... at all
Fresh ground coffee and Wild Homestead is a new Saturday morning ritual!!!! Love it.
I love it when you say “ladies and gentlemen” it just cracks me up. Great videos, I watch them all. Living vicariously through your adventure.
If you anchor your loft supports to 2 logs remember as you said the raw wood WILL SHRINK so the ledger boards will need to have a one inch long channel for the bottom fixture to slide as the logs season and settle. otherwise the fixtures may bend and snap or the ledger boards integrity may be compromised! anything you mount to more than one log please remember that the anchor points will shift as the logs settle. :) You dont want the ledger supports to split in half when the logs settle mate. Keep it up mate enjoying the vids in Australia.
Respect sir, on how when you have a problem you think your way thru it , come up with a plan and carry it out and move forward with it even if the solution is harder than the original idea. Keep doing things the "RIGHT" way and you WILL have a exceptional log cabin to be proud of. Keep up the awesome job.
THANK YOU GOOD SER KRESSIN! MY FEELINGS EXACTLY, BETTER BE SAFE THAN SORRY! 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲
I like how James pauses to listen to the calls of wildlife .
Oogabooga!saturday morning and the kids, hubby and I are curled into bed watching you on the tv. Thank you for becoming part of our Saturday mornings!
This is now my Saturday morning routine....wake-up at 8am. Make coffee. Watch latest episode of Wild Homestead to start my day off right. Ive even been saying "Ooo-ga boo-ga" to my teens. 🎉😊
You'll be closing in on 100k subs within a few weeks. Amazing, and wishing you nothing but success. Let me know when you got a PO Box set up and I can send you a care package. Cheers!
It’s 04:10 AM Saturday morning here in beautiful British Columbia, made coffee, fed the dogs and kicked them out, now it’s time for Wild Homestead. 🇨🇦
I’m loving this series. Never apologise, we are learning with you, every part of this build is interesting and your humour compliments it all. No doubt Sophie is watching and really looking forward to living there 😂. “You see, my wife and my son are already waiting for me”. Strength and honour.
Yes your right! He deserves better! Did you see him lifting those logs! The Man has talent, and He is not afraid of the Cold. He knows how to survive! This is a Good Video!😊
love this can't wait for more
Have you planned out how to get main ridge beam up to the top of the gables? I think you should leave the gable logs sticking out like they are now and use them as a set of stairs to walk the ridge beam up before cutting them on an angle to finish them.
Really enjoying the build so far.
I now have my daughter and grandson watching you! Your appeal goes across many generations now... I of course love to watch for many reasons; your references to old tv and movies and your ability to teach about health and your motivations and thinking to move forward..dont ever apologize to us for doing what you need to do for your health and well being.. ooga boga❤❤
It's time for James and you know what to do folks, just relax and inhale. WOLFMILK
My Saturday is now complete. Great progress Sir James! It’s been a brilliant 12 weeks, been watching since day one and can’t get enough!
So glad you are taking a step back to think about everything you do, so important and makes the content much more educational which is always welcome
yes, he pauses often to make "teachable points" either technical related to the build, or historical about ancient Europe
I would have suggested a single2 x 6 on 12 on center that would be more than enough for a sleeping Loft the 2x 12 ledgers was kind of a waste of money you could have used a 2x6 ledger joist into the log with longer fasteners thru the joist hangers but exited to see next weeks progress
Just wanted to say thanks for giving me something to look forward to every Saturday morning. It really is the highlight of my weekend. Can’t wait to you hit 1Mil subs. It’s coming buddy. Great job!
Hey James, you simple ramp for lifting the logs is great. Just add some strips of foam sleeping bag mat to the ramp to increase friction. Then the logs won’t slide off.
Love your videos! Saturday mornings are my favourite! You’re living the dream many of us wish we had these days!
Can’t believe I’m already caught up. I binged watched them all in 3 days.super proud of you man. I would have loved to have done this. Now I’m a slave to the beast, so it’s awesome to watch you go through everything.
I have been following the channel since the beginning and I love every part of it. From the cabin building to the chainsaws and atv. Love from the country of the Vikings Norway 🇳🇴 ❤️
Thank you for another great show
Can't wait until next week
the log ladder is getting steep now, if you cut the blocks on it to wedges then use the winch tie off to the other side of the build, and winch the logs up, it will work like a ratchet, and be easier on your arms.
By not rushing and thinking things through it may take a lil longer but things are coming together brilliantly. Great job! See you next week.
Man, I hardly ever comment on videos but I have been following your build, and I must say well done!
Your film making has gotten better and better along the way. I appreciate how much work you put in just to get certain shots, and your editing is superb. Please keep it up, and thank you!
I, like many on this comment section, am also a weekly watcher. Its hypnotic! I think most of us here wish we were there, living a wild life!
Tip for the ply sheets are better to stack flat supported on the floor stops the sheets from warping
can`t wait to get my weekly fix of Wild Homestead
James a have an alarm set for 3AM (my time zone) for the morning your videos come out. It’s my new Saturday morning ritual.
I bought some land up In Alaska a few years ago, but due to an injury I’m not sure if I’ll ever make it up there to live my dream.
Thank you for the great content so that I may live vicariously through you.
Strength and honor.
OOGA BOOGA!
I look forward to these videos every week!
Probably felt good to work in a t-shirt. It is coming along nicely James. An inspiration to us all.
I’m hooked. Best series on CZcams
Top quality content. Please do not change anything.
What a great way to start the day by watching Wild homestead. It's brilliant how you get these ideas as you're going along of how to make things easier/better. Can't wait for next week already
Coming along really nicely James, well done. I like the fact you are constantly thinking of improving the build, etc. Keep up the great work!
i wait have a alarm set so i dont miss out 6am every saturday saw your first post 1 day after it was posted and omg i cant now watch it i wish it was every day but ik it would be inposible. love it keep it up and OOGA BOOGA
Hey James, custom home builder here, in the Kawarthas. You've probably already thought of it and are compensating for it, but be cognizant of the Gable wall and if the logs are remaining plumb or not.
Don't wanna have to see you struggle later on, if it's wildly out of plumb, brother. Looking great, BTW!
I looked forward to your videos every week, I seriously cannot wait to see you complete this cabin!!!
Would love to see a second channel for those long drives into town that just do a quick recap of the week and plans going forward!
I have watched 12 episodes since yesterday 😂 It's a pleasure to watch, I wish we had that wild wilderness here in the UK 👌
Use 2x4s running vertical to support the ledger.
100,000 subs soon
Loving the peaceful, calming energy of this video.
05:30am Sunday mornings in the South Island of New Zealand and Sir James drops his latest episode 💥🔥 grab some coffee and settle in for some Wolfmilk awesomeness Oogabooga 🤟
OOGA BOOGA! That title font is absolutely ⚡ METAL ⚡
LOVE THIS YT CHANNEL YOU’RE SUPER INSPIRING❤
James looking pretty buff. All them log carries turning James in to a beast 💯
Seeing all the log peelings on the ground immediately made me think of Hugelkultur which is a great way to naturally make gardening beds, perfect for a homestead.
I am riveted in this series! Well done James for having a red hot go of it. It's looking awesome too.... 👏👏
Journey of big miles begins with small steps.
YES, ABSOLUTELY GOOD SIR!!!! 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲
How I start every Saturday…another great episode Sir James. ❤ respect for leaving the rat race. Oooga Booga.
Lol… My new Saturday morning routine !! Watching Wild Homestead !! You certainly put a smile on my face watching you, such a joy … 😅
He should put the ends of his log later on the sawhorses so the angle is better and they don't slide off
great start to my Saturday watch a new video of James building his Wild Homestead - I even have a red YETI cup the same as he does
I genuinely love getting the notification that this weeks vid has dropped. Thank you Sir! Strength and Honour!
You don’t have anything to apologize for young man you have to do what you have to do to have a nice place to live!!!
Shawn James and My Self Reliance have many good tips for homestead building....
Super exciting stuff brother. Rather you get it right than live with the mistakes. I am just happy to be a part of the experience
A couple things- NONE of us are wanting you to “hit milestones”. We’re all here because we are very much enjoying the process. What’s that old saying? “If you build it, we will come”.
Secondly, I’m a HUGE fan of your decision to go for 2x12 ledgers. I think that decision is gonna pay off in the long run for stability. Love it.
Keep up the good work, you are truly a delight to watch. I look forward to every Saturday to see your videos.
My one cheat meal a week is I eat this box. Legend!
Look forward every week to seeing your new video Getting closer to the end of the hard stuff on the cabin.
Hopefully start being easier on the body moving forward.
Looking good James.👍
Love your videos man.
THANK YOU GOOD SIR SIMON! MAY THE GODS BLESS YOU ON THIS CHILLY LATE WINTER DAY 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲
James you're doing an incredible job!!No apologies needed.looking forward to next week's video, and to watch you're progress.God bless.
Good job sir, field changes are fluid. Doing the right thing always counts.
Carry on.
Just binge watched the whole cabin series - loving it!. Just thinking out loud - Your using the broader ledger boards to secure across 2 logs - whats gonna when those 2 top logs shrink? Hopefully will be minimal and wont crack the boards (dont take them back off! 😂) Loving the series cant wait for the next one!
I've made you a part of my new healthy eating/fitness program haha, Just spent the video doing low impact cardio on my pedal machine, next I'll do a workout and then it's protein shake time baby! lol Watching you toil away living my dream in the woods, while simultaneously and consequentially getting more ripped has inspired me to take my health more seriously :)
Yeees!! Saturdays have become alot better since i found your channel!
Watching you for the past few months has been entertaining because you are so real not BS or not showing things as you go. I will say this has been a substantial amount of work and makes me realize how hard an off grid property can really be. Such a labor of love can’t wait to see this cabin finished.
Been watching since the beginning. Your videos are becoming a Saturday morning ritual with a cup of coffee. I think my boyfriend is getting jealous. He calls you "my boy" 😂
But honestly don't feel pressured to get things done for our benefit. You're not going to lose any followers because you're not making progress every single day. Keep up the good work!
If you plan to be carrying heavy sheetgoods regularly, pick up one of the cheap plastic handles most home places sell, lets you be a lot more ergonomic with how you hold them. (especially while walking through trees!)
I have my wolfmilk t shirt on, btw, its actually really nice quality.
GOOD SER CAVE YOU ARE A LEGEND! WHICH ONE DID YOU END UP PROCURING? MAY THE GODS BLESS YOU! THAT ORGANIC COTTON IS PURE ON THE SKIN. NO CHEMICALS TO LEACH IN TO YOU LIKE FROM POLYESTER! 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲
Big logo black, its really smart and have had lots of questions from people who have seen it, no chemicals, OOga Booga, and thank you for giving me a way of supporting your homestead, Richie, @@wildhomestead
Looking awesome James. Way to think it all through and correct course when needed.

Awesome watching you build your homestead. Such a serene place to live.
Much Love from Denmark. Loving your commitment and charisma towards us viewers. And what an incredible jouney
You’re learning is the best part dude!! Don’t apologize for it!!
STRENGTH AND HONOR!
Don't apologize for figuring things out as you go! makes it more real.
Getting so close, the wolf hound is around the corner and the wife and kids will follow!
LFG!!!!!!!
GOD AND LIBERTY!
That new lantern in your tent - when hung upside down you can take the globe bit off (twist it!) and it then works much better as a down light! Awesome videos :)
Correct decision. Take your time. You've made fantastic progress since November 2023. I don't know how many times I've started jobs big and small and ran into issues that had to be resolved. Well done.
You’re doing a great job.I enjoy your content a lot.Thanks for sharing.
Not surprisingly, I can tell a lot of your commenters are male. This female is enjoying your content and mostly your sense of humor. You are a beast!
When its that cold, either put coals under the quad to help warm the oil, or build a smallish fire a few feet away from it using your off cuts to warm it.
6:06 Huginn and/or Muninn were calling you out on that almost slip with the log. Gratifying to see you muscle through it. ;)
