That's the second time I come across one of your videos. I think you're a true genius.
Your creations are amazingly creative and simple in a good way!
Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much. Many of these idea come from our creative community. I can’t take all the credit but I do appreciate the support!
Honestly having a diy pendulum squat is just sick 🔥
Thanks! It’s nice to add some variety to leg day
"These straps are actually hella strong"
I know you from or lives in norcal at some point in time 😂💀
all weight rated equipment is expensive
That’s actually very useful for people with back injuries or defects to be able to have a proper center of gravity
The pendulum Squat looks like a great alternative for people with bad knees
It is! There’s also more emphasis on the quads.
I was about to ask what the point of these was, thanks dudes.
They're great for emphasizing the quads in people with longer legs as well.
That pr comment got me. I had to hit the sub for that one lmao
Thanks! Yeah a lot of people tell me I don’t have enough muscle to post these videos. It’s my little jab back for anyone paying attention. Thanks for the sub!
Hey bro. I like your video style of incorporating your comments into the video content. I think many content creators underestimate how many useful and often correct comments that are left under their videos. Smart to be humble and try out the ideas of other people. Appears to pay off huge for those who embrace growth.
Very good lighting in there
Thank you! I enjoy a well lit gym first thing in the morning
Thanks for that cause I love the pendulum squat because it really works well on your quads. I appreciate your channel please keep the ideas coming.
I’m glad you enjoy this stuff as much as I do!
This is awesome content man! Love it! It helps us garage gym guys to still be able to find new ways to hit those angles that are normally only found in a full gym setup.
Awesome, I’m glad you enjoy it!
Love the fact that he showed off his regular squat at the end too. Squats are a bitch and suck, but man do they work and MAN. When someone has good heavy squat it is a beautiful thing to watch😂
But is a pendulum or a hack squat? czcams.com/users/shortsSMbPblnZH8s
That is seriously cool. You basically have a modular version of a suspension trainer! So many new ideas....inverted rows? Kneeling overhead press? I need that.
Yes, the Henney Attachment is super versatile!
"These straps are actually hella strong"
To all of my 🌈 girls this has very different meaning. 😳
Slightly higher than my current PR LOL 😂
People are crazy thinking they’re going to break these straps!
Why risk that and just do a plated hack squat 😂😂😂
Different strokes for different folks
Cool concept, and damn yeah those straps better be hella strong for $200
pendulum squat is the most efficient way to build leg strength and definition, dont let anyone tell you any different.
You get
-full depth
-plenty of resistance
-even resistance for the most part
- the safety of not having to dodge the bar you just dropped if you cannot make it back up, the weight it being held up, and it wont crush you.
Its like bench pressing in my opinion.
If all you got is a bench and a bar, thats all you got.
But if you have access to dumbells, there is literally no point in doing bench unless you plan on competing in it soon, or are trying to hit a pr on that specific lift.
If your goal is to squat heavy, do squats.
If your goal is to be jacked, ripped, or cut as fuck, do exercise like the pendulum squat. Relatively even rewards for lowered amounts of risk. It is literally a no brainer.
I’d be more worried about those small retaining pins shearing. They’re supporting 100% of the load, which they aren’t built for.
What I’d do is go to McMaster-Carr, and grab two 316 stainless “Ring-Grip Quick-Release Pins” in the right size. They have a well defined load rating and are from a reputable supplier. There’s also an additional retaining ball that keeps the pin from falling out.
I’m gonna start doing bicep curls with my feet and then hit the treadmill to do handstand runs to work on my forearms. Oh, can’t forget about the shoulder squats too.
Cool
pendulum squat is the best quad exercice I've ever done
I love your ideas and creativity. Keep on the good work.
Did you attach your rack to the ground?
I see u have a rack from REP! As someone who works there I hope you like it!
Awesome! Yes I love my REP Omni rack!
I like this guy
Thanks!
Love all of this imma try it
You should turn main pin 90 degrees before baby snap pin fails and you fall back when main pin slides out
Yeah majority of the load is on that snap pin. I agree the pin should be turned.
Even if its safe I'd still be to afraid it would snap
It's all good bro. You should only do what you feel comfortable doing. This isn't a necessity.
@@KaizenDIYGym what about the metal carabiner or screws attaching it?
It's cool no doubt about that... I just wonder what it does that other squats don't do
Pendulum squats have been around for many years and have lots of benefits
@@KaizenDIYGym

@@Bumperpegasus nothing that a normal squat or hack squat can't do
Bro super creative
Thanks! I’m glad other people enjoy this stuff as much as I do!
It looks a lot safer for your knees seeing the stress isn't directly on it. If looks like it would help with focusing on the heal push or drive portion of the lift.
I have a knee injury. I would love to build this to get me back up to standard squat.
Give it a shot and see if it helps! I have more if you need additional inspiration: czcams.com/video/tZGAcu1QWsU/video.html
This is really interesting, like all your creations you show. Have you ever considered building upon something like gymnastics rings or a TRX suspension trainer? I bet you could come up with a great invention.
That’s a good idea. I have some rings I can dabble with.
Haha, cheaper, but like still at least $1000 worth of equipment.
What's the application of a pendulum squat? I'm assuming different emphasis than a standard back squat?
Yeah, I get asked this question so much I should just link to the article. It’s too much to copy and paste but google “benefits of a pendulum squat”
Id do anything to try this
How are these squats any different than a regular squat, I’m genuinely curious
Pendulum squats have been around for decades, I didn't invent them. Most people don't have room for a pendulum squat machine in their home gym, so this is a way to accomplish the same thing without a machine. As for the "why?" just google "benefits of a pendulum squat"
This is really cool. What's the benefit of this type of squat?
Too much to copy and paste here. Google "benefits of pendulum squat"
Fuqin love that foot plate you made. Beast
Thanks bro!
What are the applications for this certain squat?
Great for quads and glutes hypertrophy - unlike barbell squats, your lower back and core are not involved much in pendulum squats. With no weight to balance, you are free to push your quads and glutes closer to failure, which is optimal for hypertrophy.
Lower back friendly - your lower back is supported during pendulum squats, so there is very little stress on your lumbar spine. That’s good news for anyone suffering from or who wants to avoid low back pain.
No spotters required - unlike most freeweight exercises, you can take your sets of pendulum squats to failure without a spotter and without worrying about getting crushed under a heavy weight. This is a very safe exercise.
A comfortable exercise- the backrest and shoulder pads make this exercise very comfortable, even when lifting heavy weights. In c ontrast, barbell squats can be very uncomfortable as the bar presses against your upper back.
Good for beginners - the pendulum squat guides your movements, so it’s hard to do this exercise incorrectly. As such, the pendulum squat is suitable for all levels of exerciser, including beginners.
Move your feet to hit different parts of your legs - you can do pendulum squats with a narrow stance to light up your quads or a wider stance to increase glute activation.
Variety - pendulum squats hit your legs in a very novel way. Because of this, they’re an ideal way to add more variety to your leg-building workouts.
What's supposed to be the advantage of this over a regular squat
Google “benefits of a pendulum squat”
I wanna try it
Go for it. Just make sure you have good straps
Looks like a hack squat of sorts. Thinking outside the box, I like it.✌🏻💪🏻
Thanks!
I think it’s just a cooler looking hack squat machine.
Someone explain why it would be worth doing the pendulum squat over the standard squat?
Lmfao most the people on here that comment negative stuff never really lifted before cuz if u have u would be loving wat he does that or ur roided out and that's no way to do it either I like this guy and wat he makes he's the future of lifting everything changes we need to change with it
Could just use a smith machine and plant your feet forward for essentially the same effect
But this is super cool! 😲👍👍
Thanks!
That shit looks fun af
It’s worth a shot
That’s an awesome home gym
What's the benefits of pendulum squats compared to conventional squats?
Good stuff!
Glad you like it!
Seems like a great diy version but probably not fully optimal cause imo the pendulum squat is probably an exercise you would want to take to failure, and if you’re taking it to failure using that setup you’ll die trying to re rack the weight. Still works tho, just with a further proximity to failure to be safe
That’s a fair criticism
Wow this my first time ever seeing this 😳🏆✅
Yeah, pendulum squats are a fun variation to try out
Hella strong! Hello fellow kids
Gotta throw back to the 90s when I can!
Humans before the hack squat invention:
Those pins attaching the strap to the rack are inserted wrong. All of the load is being held by the tiny safety pin. You need to put the pins in at a 90 degree angle to the direction that you’re pulling.
Just following the instructions from the Henny Attachment website
The things is that squat is the best one u could do for building muscle if your using it right
That is a awesome set up. Looks like a good alternative to a hack squat. And prob a lot cheapet
Definitely cheaper and with a much smaller footprint. The trade off is the set up time, but it’s really not too bad
Get hoist straps, if it says 1 ton it can take 7.
So it's comparable to a hack squat but without the frame
What muscles does this target differently I thinks it’s a really cool idea but idk if it’s practical compared to a normal squat
What are the benefits compared to normal squats?
Google “benefits of a pendulum squat” for the full rundown
Are you worried about the lynch pin? I am not talking about the 1" hardware but instead the pin that secures the 1" hardware in place.
The entire Henny attachment has a breaking strength of 3500 pounds, that includes all hardware. I trust that Brian Hennessy thoroughly tested the weight capacity before putting these on the market.
If you are worried about the lynch pin not being sturdy enough you can just buy the henny straps and buy the rogue attachment post. I think it's like $60 more expensive but it's a lot sturdier. That's what I ended up doing.
I think it looks like leg press mixed with squat
The proper name is Pendulum Squat
But what is the benefit over a normal squat?
What are the benefits of this variation of squats?
Google “benefits of the pendulum squat”
In a normal squat, it's easier at the top but harder at the top, with a pendulum squat, it's the same difficulty all throughout (mechanically speaking)
I feel like it be less stress on the spine doing this but I wouldn’t know never tried it
I agree
Damn your diy setups are 💯
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
does this squat variation activate stabilizer muscles? just curious :)
What makes this better than a traditional squat? To me, it seems like you gain support from the webbing, where as, Trad Squat doesn’t give anything other than your own support.

R.I.P Doug Brignole
This work out is completely worthless. Just put weight on a bar and squat
Repeat this process until you’re 90 years old
Make sure you rack is bolted to the ground. Don’t see what the point of the modified squat is, but looks interesting…..and precarious
Looks like a hack squat to me (no pun intended)
It’s a pendulum squat but works in a similar way
It’s kinda like a hack squat machine
Why though??? And for what benefit
Google “benefits on the pendulum squat”
The why is that most people don’t have room for a pendulum squat machine in their home gyms.
Nice
What's giving a thing from tipping over
I have a 6 post rack. It is super heavy. Another option is to anchor the rack down.
What’s the advantage of doing this variation?
is there any product like your wedge that can bolt into a 1" rack that can be purchased?
I’d look into the slant board that Brian Hennessy sells over at www.thehenny.com
Yep imma rig this up with a bar and some eno straps
wait ive never seen it. whats the purpose of this angled squat. I'm not gonna do it.. but i must know 🤨
I still wouldn’t trust this personally but you do you
Yes, these straps are deceivingly strong. You wouldn’t think so by the looks of them. I also trust Brian Hennessy, who developed this particular product.
Hey I got that exact same setup.
Nice, it’s not too shabby!
That’s interesting more load at the top a less at the bottom.
Yo that's cool
It’s a good one!
Just use the hack squat machine lol
You have one in your basement?! You’re a lucky dude. This is for people who aren’t as lucky as you bro!
Or just hack squat or front squat like a normal person?
and how is this different to a normal squat?
Google “benefits of a pendulum squat”
The last sentence comes from a guy who sees training as a dogma.
Yeah, the internet is full of guys like that
Do you squat more or less weight with this or the regular squat
Pendulum squats have been around for decades, I didn't invent them. Most people don't have room for a pendulum squat machine in their home gym, so this is a way to accomplish the same thing without a machine. As for the "why?" just google "benefits of a pendulum squat"
the real question is why would you do this instead of a normal squat ?
How does this guy not have a million followers??
It’s a slow and steady grind, but thank you for the kind words!
Seems essentially like a hack squat
Aye he clowned the last guy hahahahahaaha
I get those comments all the time so I'm always ready with a snarky response
I’d be building widgets too if my max triple was 275
Great minds think alike 🙌
🤣
Is this not similar to a hack squat?
Yes, a pendulum squat is a similar squat variation. I did a video showing the difference between this and a hack squat.
