Brings back great memories. The Impalas were iconic. My parents had a 1966 Impala 2 door couple with a 283 engine that took us on many summer vacations and other trips. I learned to drive in that car and it became my car when I started college in 1973. I literally drove the wheels off that car. My folks had moved up to a 1971 Caprice 2 door Coupe that was fully loaded. It was a dream to drive. They went on to purchase a Buick and eventually a beautiful Cadillac Sedan Deville, but their favorite cars were still the 66 Impala and the 71 Caprice. I felt that the 69 Impala was especially well designed and maybe the best looking of that era. Thanks so much for bringing back some good memories. The GM cars of the 60's seem to do that for anyone who drove one.
Hi Timothy H., Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Parents car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Lou beautiful car!!! 69 and 70's very close and dear to my heart. My first car was a 70 Impala custom fathom blue with the bright blue interior and blue vinyl top. LOVE IT!!!
Hi Dirk, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I had over 50 cars by the time I was 40 years old. Out of all of them, I wish I had my 1969 SS Impala Numbers matching 427 / 390 HP. Bucket seats 4 speed 308 RE gears w/Posi-Trac. 75,000 Orig miles and I sold it for $1,500 in 1982-83. If I only knew then what I know now! :(

These cars rode so beautiful. All my friends had a impala of some sort back then. Mostly 327 and 350s. This ones a beautiful example. Great find Lou
Hi stripervince1, Happy to read your Friends had nice Impalas :-) High praise for this car. My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
she is a beauty, makes me want my first car back, my mom and dads 69 impala, mine was a 4 door sedan with a 327, automatic, but I kept it until 1993, wish I had it back, it was a great car, mine was Frost green, thanks for posting this one :)
Hi Thomas Ankner, Good times, good times :-) Thank you for viewing , sharing, and adding to the story. You're welcome, Lou

My parents also bought a new Impala back in the Summer of '69, but it was a 327 2dr htp. They owned it for almost 20 years and never had any problems with it, even with me driving it occasionally. Hahaha.... I've seen MAYBE 2 SS 427 models in my life, so I know how rare these were..
What a beautiful living lcon 1969 Chevrolet lmpala Supersport and a 427 Bad Boy just Simply gorgeous Muscle car History

@@loucostabile I growing up that's all my parents had where lmpalas , Biscaynes, Beaumont,, Chevelles and other of the 60S and Acadians .
Nice Impala SS427, Custom Sports Roof. Big Chevys (1960's & early 1970's) with Big-Block V-8's are cool cruisers. Back in the late 1980's, I acquired a 1966 Chevrolet Caprice, 2 door Sports Roof car, with the original 427 big-block engine, factory rated at 385hp. It had a Turbo-400 Transmission and a 12-Bolt HD Rear Axle with I believe 3.08 gearing. This non-factory AC car had a bench seat and column mounted shifter for the Auto Trans. The car did have a Tilt Wheel, Optional Steering Wheel (if I recall), Power Steering, Power Brakes, and Power Windows. The previous owner had converted the front drum brakes to disc brakes, and added aftermarket AC which worked great actually. If I recall, there were around 2,500 big Chevy cars (Caprice, Impala, Belair & Biscayne) built with the 427 engine, but majority (around 2,000+) had the L-72 (427 cu.in., rated 425hp) engine. Mine was the 385hp version (rated 390hp in Corvette) of which only around 500 were built...add in the Caprice (as opposed to Impala or lower Trim Levels) and indeed it was rather rare. I've never seen another 1966 Caprice like this but did come across several with the 396 big-block engine, including one that was a factory 4-speed. Tom M., Southern California
Hi Tom, Happy to read you had a cool car too :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Lovely car my uncle Edgar has one and bought it new in 69 still all original but had it restored awhile back and i guess he had it brought in from where a special order and being from Hudson Bay Saskatchewan it's still his pride and joy 🤑

Chevy Impala is a real beauty. I like it very much. My uncle when he was studying at the Medical School of The University of Minnesota at Minneapolis brought with him Chevy Impla and that was a lomg time ago. It's still running very well in the streets of Cairo amd Alexandria. Many people offered to buy but no success. I really enjoyed watching the video Thanks LOU for sharing this beautiful Impala .Appreciate your efforts and hard work showing all great variety of cars. Please have a great day.
Hi Hisham Elfiki, Glad you enjoyed the looks of this one :-) Thank you for sharing, adding to the story, and the kind words, Lou
My Father purchased a 69 Green Impala 4 door and I remember falling out of the back seat on the street. No harm done, they picked me up and went home. Lol
Hi J Groucho, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Fathers car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
We had a 69 Caprice with a 396/265hp. White with black vinyl top, and a "Satin soft" black interior. Car also had the fiber optic option and the "Anti skid option" which had two canisters mounted inside the trunk on the inner wheelhouses. A cartridge of traction fluid was inserted in each canister and was activated by a switch on the dash board. The fluid would spray on the rear tires to aid traction in wet or snowy conditions. The car had "tall" rear end gears (256posi) and a turbo 400. I drove it from NY to FL and it was a dream!
Hi Izzy Dizzy, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
@@loucostabile HI Lou, At the time we got the Caprice, I was 20 yrs old and working at the largest Chevrolet dealership in Westchester County NY. The car belonged to the owner ( his Demo) and was offered for sale with around 7000 miles on it. I called my parents immediately and told the to buy it. Since I worked there as a technician, they put a set of dealer plates on it and I took it home. My Mom fell in love with it and we bought it for $3500. since it was the owners demo, it was equipped with the odd ball options as mentioned. It also had power steering and power disc brakes, PW, PL, PS, Tilt, cruise and am/for radio. The 396 was equipped with a Rochester 2bbl, and dual exhaust. It was like Chevy's version of a Cadillac. When I was driving it home from Florida, I got into a highway race with a 69 Buick Electra 225, and he couldn't shake me. What great memories!
Like that color on that car it’s really nice! Of course that 427 big block is music to my ears! Great car Lou!
Hi Joseph, A wonderful Chevy for sure :-) Lou
Boy, this one sure holds a special place in my heart. Our 69 Caprice coupe was my parents first decent car after years of used Ramblers and stripped down chevelle wagons!Ours had the base 396, and hideaway headlights. I always loved the dash layout and design, and yearned to take control of that big block engine. This car was traded in for out 73 Caprice just about the time I got my license, so never got to spend much time behind the wheel. I also remember our neighbor's beautiful white/black 69 Impala convertible, now that was a beautiful car.
Hi Kramden, "my parents first decent car after years of used Ramblers" I like that :-) Thank you for sharing and adding to the story, Lou
Wow, another great car to feast our eyes on! Good job again, Lou. Brought back memories of my big brother (rest his soul). He started out with a new '57 Bel Air 2-dr. hardtop with Power Pack (2 4-barrels) and then again with a hot '63 Impala SS with another 283. By the time this one came out, though, he was busy starting a family, so the the "hot rod" big Chevys were history for him then. Thanks for sharing this wonderful car with all of us! --Jim
Hi Jim, Sounds like your Big Brother was a wonderful car Role Model. Thank you for the kind words, it's appreciated :-) Lou
He was indeed. The best! He was 8 years older than me, so when it came my turn to buy a new car, I opted for the hot new '65 Mustang fastback. In the final years of his life, he broke away from Chevy and actually bought a bright red 2014 Mustang. I explained to him how he had all the looks of a Shelby for a fraction of the cost of his new 6-banger 'Stang. He was impressed. Glad he got to sample a Mustang in his final years. All the best, Lou. I feature your vids regularly on our Bullitt Mustang website (imboc.com) in a special section I run called "Nifty 50s." Hope you don't mind. --Jim
@Kevin Durham: Don't know what you mean exactly about "crickets," but I'm sure Lou appreciates the additional exposure. I wasn't trolling for compliments, after all.
Love this CAR!! I am a big fan of '69 Impalas -- my grandmother had 2 of them.
Hi kenny branshaw, Happy to read you "Love this CAR!!" :-) Sounds like your Grandmother had some nice Chevys, Lou
Yes! Lou, she had 2 of them, both '69 Impalas. The first was a custom - gold with a black vinyl top and paisley design like black seats. The 2nd was a royal blue hard top with black vinyl seats and an 8 track player LOL.
@@loucostabile
Very very nice! That little fiber optic gizmo on the hood is fascinating and the rear light monitor. I never knew such critters existed for any kind of car.
I love learning from the Care Taker all the little details about their car :-)
Chrysler products used them from around 65 till around 79. No one made a big deal about them on a Mopar.
one of the best !
big block , bucket seats , full size style and 4 speed manual transmission !
this in convertable in 1967 with L88 option !
Hi A. E., Convertible with an L88, that would be nice :-) Lou
Love this car. I forgot to comment when I first viewed this awesome SS. I don’t car what people call them to me they are pure excitment for the time and in a package only GM could develope. The ‘69 ford XL and the Plymouth Fury can’t compare to this almost 400HP beauty.
Hi gene978, Glad to read you "love this car" :-) Lou
That is a beautiful car. I am a Gm and chevy fan. The 427 is my favourite motor.
Happy to read you enjoy the looks & motor on this car :-)
What a beautiful car and a beautiful color! He sure is proud of his car and his Toronado. Sounds healthy and I bet it runs healthy. Kind of surprised it didn't have power windows power seats power locks and speed control with all the other extra options loaded on it. Very nice automobile and thanks for sharing Lou!
Hi Steve Flad, Glad you enjoy the design & color of this one :-) I like this one too. You're welcome, Lou
All those power options were more likely to be seen on a Caprice, however they would not be out of place on a 427 SS Impala by any means.
Best of the best. For a 1969 Impala
Nice :-)
Hi, Lou! You know, back in the day, everybody either had an Impala or knew someone who did. My dad's parents had a '61 and a '67 when I was a kid. But just when you think you've seen 'em all, there's Arnold's 69 SUPR Impala, which ought to run like an impala with that 427! As the Impala SS goes, this was the last of the line until 1994, as the performance torch had already long been turned over to intermediates. You're right, that LeMans Blue shade is perfect for this car! I love the tagline in that period ad: "About all that's left for its rivals to offer is excuses." LOL! And I've always liked the instrument panel on these '69 and '70 big Chevys and how they put all the warning lights and turn indicators in a nice long neat row. If you didn't tell me that was a fiberoptic light monitor on the fender, I would have sworn it was a turn signal indicator like you would see on some Mopars of the same period. BTW, one of our local TV stations in Boston has a program called "Chronicle" in which the hosts occasionally drove an Olympic Gold '69 Impala Custom years ago.
Many thanks to you and Arnold for spotlighting this SUPR 69 for us!
Hi iswc27, Happy to read this one brings back memories of your Dad's Parents car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Amazing car!! When i was cruising in the 60's and seen 427 fender tags i would always say OMG!! and a 4 speed OMG 2 Awesome car .
HI Newton Washington, Two "OMg's" :-) High praise, Lou
MY FATHER HAD A 1968 IMPALA SPORT COUPE, WITH A 307 C.I.D AND A POWERGLIDE TRANS.
Hi Paul, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Fathers car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
beautiful work of art only thing missing is hideaway headlights and factory gauges and power windows
No Hideaway Headlight option on impala for 69 just Caprice. The Car does have the factory gauges it was available with for 69, a ribbon tach was a dealer option but was not part of the cluster. Service vehicles, cop cars taxis and such were available with a different cluster that went to 140mph and had gauges for the important things instead of idiot lights, but didn't come in your run of the mill pass cars.
Hideaway headlights were only offered on the Caprice in 68 and 69. Impala never had them.

Lou, I love your clips ! and so appreciative of Arnold and the other guys who love these cars putting the time and money into keeping them like new ! WONDERFUL ! I'm forwarding this to my buddy who has had his 70 Chevelle SS mothballed and in need of just minor work.... same colors ! We need to get his car back on the road, then, CALL YOU !

You're welcome and the pleasures all mine, Lou
Damn! That's one handsome car! I've always found the 1969 Chevy Impala the best looking car since the 1964. My favourites are the Impala SS and the Caprice. I love the condition of this car. I love the colour. LeMans Blue. Very nice. :)
Hi Jason Carpp, Glad you like this one and found this one "handsome". Nice :-) Lou
The 65-66 Impala SS and the 62 Bel Air bubble top were the best looking full size Chevy's I always thought
The guy at the start of the video was so happy he was featured into the greatest car guy of CZcams. It's quite a pleasure to be on a video with your favourite car, John.
Here in Canada, it is VERY rare to find cars such as the 1959 Cadillac. In the States, they are seen on a daily basis. If I went to the States to find a car, for example Illinois, there'll be lots of cars on the way there and back.
Hi John, Happy to read you enjoy the episodes with me :-) There are cars here in the USA, however not as many as you think, and that is why I like to seek them out to share with you :-) I appreciate your kind words, Lou
Another great car and video Lou! Your channel is one of my must view daily channels!! Keep up the great work.
Hi Jeff King, Glad you enjoyed this one :-) High praise. Thank you and it's appreciated, Lou
First- I thought I was the only guy who called the rear window defroster a "de-frogger".
Second- that's a beautiful car! It looks like it's got EVERYTHING except power windows and seats... I wonder why that Dealer didn't go the whole 9 Yards?
Cheers, Lou!
Another great video.
Hi Slick Andrews, My pleasure sharing this one with you :-) Cheers, Lou
This 69' blue beauty is a very exciting car! Nothing like the real deal! Love it! The steering wheel was a fun feature. I liked hearing about putting ur little one to sleep with the idle sound... sweet addition to this car story! I really enjoyed this vid! Just Great! Thank u!!!!

Back in 1970 when I was in the 5th grade a guy in town had one the same color and all. His mother- in- law was one of the lunchroom ladies at our school, one day he was visiting and it was parked out by the gym. Quite a treat for myself and all the other young gearheads, even then we knew the mystic of a SS 427 Impala but not how rare they really were.
Happy to read this video brought back childhood memories :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing.

Lou Costabile agreed the 69’is in my opinion the prettiest of the B bodies and with a 427 and a 4 speed it’s perfect
My first drag car was a biscayne we transplanted a 427 and a muncie into
Even being what it was we sold it for well over $40,000 in 1997
Beautiful. Correction recommended, I owned a 1966 427 Impala SS.

It had an an 8 track in the console with separate treble & bass ,4 speakers, found out later that there was a power booster under the dash . The radio was mounted conventionally. It kicked but. HI Terri Bel Bliss, Thank you for viewing and sharing that tip, Lou
Yes, the Lincoln Mark III had that same Option which also made it's way onto the T-bird and had the rare rear Deck mount Brake Light that took over a decade to catch on to reduce rear-end collision .
Those fender indicators were also on the Eldorado in the mid 1970's .
These vehicles are Americana art!!!
Happy to read you enjoy the cars :-) Me too.
Lou, I have a an old friend with a three owner (He's the third) R code 1964 Mercury Marauder pretty well restored. We live in Montgomery County suburban Philly. I wonder if you'd be interested. Rare car..great shape... if the dealer that ordered this car had spent a few hundred more and got the L72 427 425 hp v8.. it would be worth a lot more today.. but the 425 hp motor had solid llifters and GM would not put A/C in a solid lifter car....
.
Hi Yesenia, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) Lou
Great car! most of those options were available on a Caprice. I had a SS and added the Caprice hideaway headlights because it was the right thing to do. The clock would have been a tach in most models. You could also add the f41 option if you wanted to pay for it, Being a C body a f41 was a no brainer. Great rosewood wheel.

No factory tach on the ‘69, it was a dealer option that mounted on the dash. There is now an aftermarket version that does replace the clock and looks factory.

The roof reminds me of a removable hardtop, how the back window sinks in.
Hi MBailey1977, Thank you for sharing your thought. Question for you, do you like this one? Lou
American old-school heavy metal. \m/
Just the way we like it :-)
IN 1969, HEADRESTS, WERE MANDATORY, ALONG WITH COLUMN LOCK, CANADA WAS A YEAR BEHIND, (1970).
Hi Paul, Thank for viewing & sharing your knowledge, Lou
Hi Lou - a real beauty! No tach? I'm curious about the carburetor [make & size] and in general how that car runs and drives - clutch-shift action and overall handling. Could I suggest that to enhance your already primo productions that you get to do more ride-withs (and commentary) when it is convenient to do so. Obviously when you feature a car at an inside venue that might not work but certainly what you showed in this vid the sky looked as blue as the paint. Although you do from time to time jump in I'm willing to bet we'd all really like to see more! I feel it creates a completeness to your features and a genuine connection...just sayin'. Keep up the good work my man.
Hi Audie Conrad, You're right on target. When time allows (and that is the tricky part with my schedule) I will absolutely go for a ride. Most times I'm at a car show, and you're correct that I'm not able to get a ride, however the bonus is we are both getting much more than a regular car show with under the hood, interior, and engine sound, and of course "the story" :-) Great suggestion on the ride, Lou P.S. If you want to see the "ride" videos, type into CZcams search "My Car Story with Lou Ride" and those videos will come right up.

Beautiful car annoyed me GM quit producing the impale in 2019 I think. My Father had a 69 Caprice and a 68 Impala I believe. His was a 4 door in 69 but had the plastic seat covers.☺The 60s and early 70s can't beat the styling!
Hi Tim C, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Fathers car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Beautiful 69! I have a 69 SS as well. He's mistaken about the taillights, those are Caprice lenses. It's possible his car could have came with them(my car was ordered with Caprice trim),but they're not part of the SS package.
Hi Robert Tweedell, Sounds like you have a cool car too :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
My Dad had the same car, color, vinyl top & 4 speed, only his was a 300 HP 350
