    Shop around, picked mine up for £2499. So glad I got it, sharpness way better than previous 100-400. Focusing and lightness awesome. Just buy it, you will not be disappointed.

    It's only f7.1 from about 472-500mm and f6.3 from 364 to 471mm.

    Yep that price is why I couldn't go the Canon system. This lens combined with the R5 your looking at just over $10,000AUD... I went with the Sony A7R IV with the 200-600mm lens for under $6000AUD, thats quiet a difference, considering that not only the lens is F6.3 at 600mm but just the fact its 600mm! Also lens zooms internally which is great for tripod work as it does not affect the balance while zooming. Also lets not forget the body with 61MP which has no trade off in low light performance compared to other Sony cameras.
    There are a few things I feel like I missed out on not going the Canon system, I missed out on the better body grip, possibly better ISO performance than Sony cameras, better stabilisation for handheld video, 20FPS, bird eye AF, possibly a faster AF system for birds in flight, maybe a little better IQ with the 500mm lens, better min focus distance. Anything else? let me know.
    But im very happy with my choice going with Sony, but the only time I know I would do better with the R5 is in low light, ISO 12800 still looks good on Canon, yet my Sony at 6400 the images are almost useless, so to keep the ISO down I lower my shutter speed to 1/400sec handheld and every shot is blurry and from what ive seen people can hand hold the Canon at much lower shutter speeds. These are very 2 minor things, but end up being game changing things in the world of wildlife photography.

      Also the Canon performs better in video mode using this lens. See link comparison. czcams.com/video/W5c8_7n0yI8/video.html

      @@Davitor1 yep even the cheaper canon 800mm f11 is better in video because of the stabilisation.

      @@KurtisPape but your correct in pointing that you get the bigger bang for your buck with another 100mm bonus w/Sony.

    This makes the Sony System with the 200-600 mm lens at $1900 US and the Sony a7 IV much for attractive.

    I’ve got a few friends tgat have the 100-500 and they say it’s not that sharp ?

    • @binetix
      @binetix Před 5 měsíci

      Exactly the opposite - an exceptional, compact, lightweight and razor-sharp lens proven over the years! But if you are still unhappy, as I suspect, then you can try RF 100-300 f2.8...

      @@binetix I actually shoot with 400mm prime at the moment as this is what I chose over the 100-500mm it’s a superb lens, but on closer subjects then it becomes awkward as too keep tracking back lol
