    Hello everyone. In today's Video, we dive into the realm of Pyramid Symbolism in order to attain clues related to Black Pyramid.
    The story of Control makes note that The Board and The Black Pyramid are not the same. The Board simply controls the Pyramid, but it is its own thing altogether. So what function does the Pyramid serve thematically and within the Setting?
    We will use General and Alchemical symbolism to assist us with this question.
    Please feel free to have free discussion in the comments section below regarding Black Pyramid Symbolism.

    In Finnish mythology, Ahti is a heroic character. This is the name of the Finnish god of the ocean. What if this is connected to Ahti as the alchemical symbol is water? Then in terms of Fins, the soundtrack "Old Gods of Asgard" could be a reference to how the Oldest House "grew" like Yggdrasil from Norse mythology connecting to different realms. Idk i sound like a tinfoil hat conspiracist haha

    Another excellent video. I hadn't considered that the Board was separate from the Pyramid, but it does make sense. After all, one of the first lines from them is "We are broadcasting from the Pyramid/Other". I think the DLCs (particularly Foundation) will provide more context but I don't think we will ever get a definitive answer, which like Jesse says I'm OK with. I'll be happy with just some more clues we can theorize over until AWE drops.

    There was a video regarding the black pyramid as a conduit for the norse pantheon. With the foundation and one of the pillars having an etching of yggdrasil, or the wolrd tree, ahti, being the finnish god of the ocean and mentioning his swedish friends unable to handle the sauna, even former practically being a symbol for loki. I could be wrong on the last mention. But worth investigating.
    Whether or not there is a connection between the black pyramid and norse mythology, I have no idea.

    Hearing you talk about this makes me think of the Tarot, and specifically about the 19th of the major arcana: The Moon. It symbolizes the unknown, the unconscious, and the unspeakable, among other things.
    It depicts a crustacean crawling from a body of water, while a dog and a wolf both howl at the moon in the background. Bodies of water are often a symbol of the barrier between the real world we usually perceive and the sub-real fantasy we are barely conscious of; the Dark Place beneath Cauldron Lake is a good example, as are any number of legends about buried treasure, sunken shipwrecks, or even entire lost civilizations like Atlantis.

    • @GamingUniversityUoG

      It is good to hear someone is familiar with Tarot. The Moon and/or using water to represent gateways to the unconscious is a big thing in the game but literature in general. I love the symbolism that the dog and the wolf represent both the civilized/tamed and animalistic/feral aspect of the human psyche. I have a one-off video on Persona 4 that jumps into that card.

    I dont think they will release Control 2.. Remedy is known for not doing Sequels. Control "1" is already set, since what else can you do in terms of "new level design" for the FBC.. It saddens me, because they are so many questions left unanswered and I feel like justifying it by saying "Oh, just construct your own theories about the story" is lame storywritting. Yes, I love it when I have to use my brain and think really hard when it comes to games like that.., but there is literally a "theory" for every aspect to the game, making it way too vague and making me frustrated to the moon and back. Even with the two DLC's we got nothing truely got answered, except that The Former is a "former" member of The Board and that Marshall blew the Nail up to prevent the bleeding.. :(

    • @GamingUniversityUoG
      @GamingUniversityUoG  Před 3 lety +3

      The main reason I would argue we will eventually get a Control 2 is in the game files one of the symbols for the oceanview motel doors is labelled Control 2. But also this game really brought attention to Remedy so sticking with this setting would be a good business decision. Granted I agree with the exception of Max Payne, remedy games haven't gotten sequels.
      One thing I try to keep in mind is that even if we don't have Jesse as the main character, the world will still expand, we will get some answers. However, a different POV character will be leading the show for this particular story.
      We will have to wait and see though. Luckily Remedy is doing some massive hiring right now so with a bigger team I feel we won't have to wait as long as we've gotten used to.

    • @Notmuhrealname
      @Notmuhrealname Před 2 lety +1

      @@GamingUniversityUoG In my opinion a control sequel should be from someone else's POV preferably someone in a different country since the FBC is mainly focused on the safety of America. Seeing how other countries developed to face AWEs and OoPs since I couldn't find a reason these things would only be in America, it's even more interesting when you realise other countries didn't have the advantage of the Oldest House and most likely didn't have The Board. One possibility I thought of was places in Europe (I don't know much about history so I may be saying nonsense) with stories about people being persecuted for witchcraft some of the cases would be actual parautilitarians getting killed and since there's no Oldest House to prove the existence of the supernatural instead of a government agency there would be something run by civilians like a company, community volunteer center or even a street gang.

      @@Notmuhrealname hi, I'm from Brazil, let me give you a hint of what could be a similar oldest house in my country.
      You certainly heard about El Dourado legend right? A city made of gold?
      Well turns out that the natives in Brazil have a similar myth, the city of Akkor, home of the gods....
      It is said that the city itself is invisible AND it can move from place to place.
      Theres also a urban myth about a massive military base very well hidden right in the middle of Amazon, theres not prof that this base exists, only whispers here and there, but the belief is that there is something big that the brazilian government hide deep in Amazon... There is even some cases similar to Roswell, like the project Pratos and Varginha case.
      Also "haunted" houses are "common" all over the country.
      What if in Brazil instead of a magical building, have a magical flying city that is controlled by a branch of the military?
      It doesn't need to follow the same rules as the FBC, only the same purpose.
      Add the idea that the brazilian military has it's roots with Templars, and you pretty much have a similar setting for a Brazilian Control.

  • @ilregiallo4151
    @ilregiallo4151 Před 3 lety +2

    What do you think about the theories found in The Foundation DLC? Ash gave us two possible interpretation for the Black Pyramid:
    -it could represent conflict and stagnation, while a normal pyramid (the white one in the motel?), standing on its base represent stability and stagnation.
    -another possibility (I don't remember if this was from Ash or frome someone else) is that the inverted pyramid represent God descending on Earth; the pyramid standing on the base represents men ascending to God.
    (We clearly see the Board using the Astral power to invest normal object, so the second theory seems be plausible. I'm not convinced about the first one).

    But the former kinda just comes out of no-where with no apparent connection to the board or the hiss.

      You're in luck then, I keep a list of topics I want to cover for these Remedy games and The Former is near the top.
      I'm working on something for Max Payne currently then in deciding whether to tackle The Former or another Alan Wake video next.
      I have some thoughts on The Former that I hope helps.

      @efxnews4776 Před 11 měsíci

      The Former does have aconnection with the Board, it was once part of the Board, as someone mentioned, Board represent the norse pantheon, and the Former is basically Loki, the oldest house clearly represents the Yggdrasil, theres even a symbol of it down in the basement.
      Now, one thing to note here is the synchronicity that pagan religions have across history
      The greek, the norse, even some african religions, have similar gods.
      For instace, the greek gods live upon the Olimpus mountain, wich in some ways is similar to the Yggdrasil.
      A mountain is a natural pyramid...

    The purpose of the pyramid is twofold I think. Firstly it is to usurp the power pyramids hold in mythology/culture/conspiracy, to subsequently become a new architype for the Board. We know that shape has no inherent relation to the Board as they were also represented/contained in the Nail. Secondly the black pyramid filters power to the Board through the collective thoughts of the Bureau staff, like human thoughts/rituals change the properties of the alerted items/objects of power, which are themselves architypal items. You covered much of why I suspect/postulate this but I thought I might add my two cents/rant.

      If that were the case we would have to establish the relationship to Former, multiple entities with different voices with the Board, why it is antagonist and controlling, relationship to Northmoor, Ash Jr. etc. Personally, I do believe we will have some lingering effects of Alan in the future. But I'll have a video on that later.

    • @whendarknessfalls6969
      @whendarknessfalls6969 Před 5 měsíci

      @GamingUniversityUoG I would go into a spiral if I kept going with the puzzle pieces. The Former to me feels like either 1: the ancestral memories of the father 2: Thomas Zane the former artist 3: your former self in the past 4: the Board is a collective of directors/ whatever came before. With the Former Trench rebeling. 5: a collective of the archetypes with the Former being a forgotten one 6: similar to "I have no mouth and I must Scream" the Board eventually becomes "Scratch" and the Former is now Wake. It's controlling cuz it's trying to force a certain narrative to turn Jesse into the hero. But I personally don't believe Control takes place in the real world, but all represents Alan/ the real writers unconscious/ subconscious mind trying to gain control inside the dark place. I also think whoever the Writer is. Is someone old in a retirement home with dementia trying to fight off this darkness washing away his memories as he writes to remember. Finland has been dealing with allt of dementia and music/sauna are good for recalling failing memories. There's also how Alan has those Live action segments or just "watches" through a TV. The internal observer trapped in their own mind. If the directors dont become part of the Board but die or become equipment. Then director Northmoor is the heart, Darling is our imagination, kinda ect ect. I'm honestly surprised/sad how Carl Young was mention every 10 files in control, but not once in AW2 lol.
      Kinda switching topics lol. Did you ever play Clave Barkers Jericho? You start out with only one playable character until he dies. But then his special ability is found out possessing the others to control them. In most games, the MC is normal or a nobody until we the players possess them one day going on a grand adventure. Games like RDR2 will even comment on this. with Arthur saying he's been killing alot of ppl for no reason recently like someone is controlling him. In Control I think we're more Polaris than Jesse, which is why it's in 3rd person. But also in Alan wake 2, as soon as Saga and Wake are together before you can switch. It acts like something is watching them(us the player) from that puddle, that we then fly through to switch to the other.

    I'd probably know a lot more if I could be bothered to read the collectables.

      It can take a lot of time but I'd recommend it. It really does explain a lot of the lore and expand upon the universe

      @@GamingUniversityUoG Maybe I will now I've finished the game. There's just so many that if I'd of read them all, it would've killed the pace for me.

      There are a few over at Remedy that are aware of it. Most prominently the community manager Vida.

      I know there was a different lead writer on The Foundation so that may be what you're feeling. Frankly it may have been trying to wrap up plot points like marshall and the former. Still, there is some interesting stuff in it. Opened up a lot of new questions and backstory.

      Gaming University did you buy the AWE ? Is it just as good as the original? I only bought the foundation and I beat it in like 2hours 😂 quarantine right and do you think we’ll get like a Control 2 or something? Like Dylan’s story or something?

    • @GamingUniversityUoG
      @GamingUniversityUoG  Před 4 lety +1

      The AWE dlc has not been released yet so we will have to wait and see what happens there. For me the Foundation took about 10 hours or so because I was going super slow and trying to collect everything.
      Control 2 is likely going to happen and they have set up enough that I'm sure Dylan will have more story down the line.

      Gaming University I just found out about this game last week took a week to finish it but I’m so fascinated but the story of control this shit is so dope! But I’m excited for AWE when it releases and I’m even more excited for A number # 2 when it’s time

    Isn't it ironic that you talk about the black pyramid being the translator of complex symbols to understandable language,
    while you're doing exactly that for us? Thank you, oh wise one. My //intuition.rational// appreciate././support your efforts.

      Haha nice perspective on it. Thank you good sir! But remember I trust you all to hold my feet to the fire and keep me honest. Unlike the board who doesn't give a crap.
