    Q: So what's that sword for?
    A: It's a stabbing sword.
    Q: And this?
    A: Stabbing
    Q: And your spear.
    A: Stabbing
    Hmmm. I think there's something going on with the Romans and stabbing.

    But.. chainmaile was invented by the _gauls!_
    The romans themselves have described trade going on between britain and north of france/gaul.
    There is NO WAY the britons didn't know what chainmaile or metal armour was! -__-

      In AD 393 the Emperor Theodosius 1 exiled men in pants and confiscated their property. Today psychiatry is the Emperor and any man in a skirt, no matter how tame, they will exile with their hokey contrived slander terms that are an affront to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 , to the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment, and to decency, reciprocity, fairplay, individuality, and against civilization itself. All psychiatry should be aggressively legislated against and the response to this faction should be "leave us alone---can't you see we're busy?"

      The Roman empire existed for over a thousand years, and their legionaries changed appearances over time. I think you're referring to the Lorica Segmata, which was popular during the Pax Romana era. But in other times they switched to mail or other things for various reasons

      Contrary to popular imagination they wore several armour types together.That over-prapagated type of armour you have on mind(modernly called most often as "Lorica Segmentata")was just one of possibilities to wear and compared to other armour types it had pretty short life of usage.

      @@Bronwyn031 By the way none of those terms are Roman.They were all put together modernly by using latin but how Romans themselvs really called it is not known.The only exception is a chainmaile which one author very clearly calls as "Gallica" therefore even more reinforcing idea of Celts as its original inventors.Apart from these 3 most commonly used armour types Romans also knew and used few others.

  • @seafirefr.4751
    @seafirefr.4751 Před 2 lety +1

    This is incorrect and rather misleading, most low-ranking Roman Legionnaires who made up most of the Roman military power, actually wore mostly leather, even most helmets were leather, it wasn’t rare to see a legionnaire with a metal helmet, but it was uncommon. The visualisation that all Roman soldiers wore red is also incorrect, most paintings dated from the Ist to IInd century, CE, depict Roman Legionnaires and even Centurions wearing tunics, capes and robes of wool which had not been dyed, in other words, white tunics. Yes, Romans wore red, this is undoubtedly true, but it was actually quite uncommon. Don’t be fooled by this “Once upon a time, all Romans wore red” tale.

    • @seafirefr.4751
      @seafirefr.4751 Před 2 lety

      @@romainvicta3076, I remember reading about it in one of my old history books, I’ll try and dig it out for you and tell you what it’s called and the author. I’m not referring to the whole of the Roman Army here, though, I’m referring of troops of lower “importance” very low ranking legionnaires or auxiliary/secondary troops. Obviously there is no physical evidence of the this existing, because leather can not last this long. There are depictions of it in historical art pieces, it looked very similar to the lorica segmentata, to me, it looked like strips of leather that were used on the iron lorica segmentata but instead of being attached to iron segments, they were sewn into either leather segments or a one?-piece hand-crafted leather tunic.
