  • Both Photoshop and Krita are high-quality applications for digital painting, photo editing, or designing. If you're new to these programs it can be difficult to understand how they work because of the underlying grid system that both use (or in other words, the raster technology).
    The two software are very similar, but they also have certain features that set them apart.
    We’ll help you decide which one is right for you by comparing them head-to-head!

    Would you like to be constantly robbed by a program that was never meant for painting,
    Or would you like a program meant for painting that continuously gets updates and is actually made by artists.

    I respect Photoshop as industry standard, but I prefer Krita. I went to Art School, learned Photoshop as it's own course and everything, passed with an A+ and kept up with it since; but Krita is easier to use, and in my honest opinion, the better choice. I can do in Krita what I can do in Photoshop. 5.0 is stellar, and the community has made great strides in customized tools. I will always love Photoshop, but Krita has been my go-to for nearly 2 - 3 years now. I even tried Paint Tool Sai for a hot minute and prefer it over that.

    I thought the video was good but the conclusions seemed like a cop out. Basically you said Photoshop is better because everyone uses it instead of pointing out what it does better.

    • @jullcepts8780
      @jullcepts8780 Před rokem +14

      It really did. "Photoshop is better because, of course, it is" is not an objective verdict. If you like Photoshop more than Krita, then that's completely fine. Actually, both are great. It's just that Photoshop is older, so the things Krita does now Photoshop already did them a while ago. But in 2022? Use any, use both, whatever suits you better. They're ... I'd said 80% compatible with each other.
      Key differences so far being:
      The protect alpha function in Krita is not something that Photoshop understands as Clipping Mask even when they're supposed to do the same thing.
      In Photoshop, you can make a straight line by pressing on point a and then point b (anchoring the line basically, so it's super fast).
      Krita doesn't have a Replace Color function like Photoshop
      Both layouts and routes to SOME tools are a bit different, but they're there, I can assure it.
      Other than that? Yeah, they're pretty much comparable to one another.

    Adobe, for some reason froze my CS3 which I paid for in full on my Mac computer. I hated them for this. So I downloaded Krita for free. At first it was a pain to learn a new digital program having used PS since 1998. But after a few months I liked it. Now I have the new Krita, 5.0, and it is much better than the 4.0 version. The hell with Adobe.

    Show, don't tell. I have noticed that you do a lot of narrated commentary on these software's but never show us how these features differ from one another. For example, if you claim the brushes of one software are better than the other...... than demo the difference. I would really love to see how they stack up against one another. ;)

  • @jullcepts8780
    @jullcepts8780 Před rokem +17

    Both are great. The thing with Photoshop is that the things that Krita does now (on Krita 5.0) Photoshop does it since a long time ago and the industry has standardized it. BUT Krita as it is now is enough to rival Photoshop in tools, capabilities, learning curve and overall result capabilities and workflows. AND it's FREE. You're getting a tool that can give Photoshop a run for its money and it's free. I believe that if you are an independent artist (beginner or pro) you can get amazing results with Krita. And if you manage to move into the industry then the transition will be a lot easier than one may think.

    Sooner or later Adobe Photoshop will be long forgotten because:-
    1. Customers had to pay monthly subscription fee in order to use Photoshop consistently. Sometimes the fee can be expensive.
    2. Krita is gaining it's popularity day by day + it's free. Furthermore, krita is updating it's software time by time.

  • @felipelopes3171
    @felipelopes3171 Před 11 měsíci +14

    Well, what I think is: Krita absolutely blows Photoshop out of the water with its brushes. Photoshop is marginally better in a number of things people actually don't care about, and most of the time they only serve to clog up its UI. The filtering and tone mapping stuff you showed can be done in Krita, too. Although I agree it's not as intuitive as Photoshop.
    There's absolutely no reason to give Adobe monthly payments for that thing. Open source software has been winning the war against proprietary for a long while now. In fact, every time I see someone trying to put proprietary stuff in a project, I just think of a mediocre professional who's going to waste a lot of time and money from the company just to have a third party to support him when he can't do the stuff he was hired for.

      Heck there is open source versions of the AI as well. I have even played with some of them. Not saying it should replace human artists or anything. It's just interesting that even that can be open sourced. They don't perform quite as well, but it's not bad and will improve with time.@@antoniostrina82

      Krita doesn't work on iPads and the chances of it being available are slim(however Apple currently is getting a lawsuit and that might change). You can try using wine on the file and see if that runs it.

    Photoshop: great for graphics design work involving photos, text, and maybe some artistic digital touch ups with brushes
    Krita: good if you want to focus solely on drawing/painting/sketching, and create finished artworks, with no extra steps (Photoshop default brushes are hard to work with)
    Photoshop: payed
    Krita: free

    Your praises of Photoshop are noted but I simply refuse to pay Adobe that kind of money so over 4 years ago I began learning its free emulator, Gimp. Gimp has its detractors; not everything about it has as elegant of a workflow as PS and yes some things could be better....but. it. is. free. It does everything Photoshop does that I need it to and improves all the time.
    With the aid of the University of CZcams I've become a decently skilled intermediate level digital painter, photomanipulator and am good at repairing images of old, damaged vintage photographs. But once I began using Krita and learning more about the fundamentals of art and drawing, it became obvious how ill-suited Gimp was to this specific form of creativity. I agree that they can and should be used together in a complimentary fashion...but save yourself the money altogether and support the open-sourced software. Adobe is making plenty of money convincing everyone that they are the 'king of...all the things.' There is at least one other extremely functional option and I for one am an enthusiastic user of the alternative.

    • @antoniostrina82
      @antoniostrina82 Před 7 měsíci

      In my humble opinion, Krita can replace both GIMP and Photoshop, just some features are different in their use, but if you figure how to use them, they are effective at the same level.
