In the original Resident Evil 2 opening a specific door in the game causes two zombies to come shambling through and attack Claire or Leon. Usually seeing a cutscene of a door opening means your safe for a minute.
One of the best examples I can think of is in the original Dead Space. There's a bit late into the game where you can open up an upgrade bench and you're let to feel you're safe in these menus with no risk of being attacked. Then a Necromorph pops up from behind you. Never felt more shuck up in my life.
Same! And in Dead Space, there is no pause menu to settle yourself afterwards. One of the top games scares I have ever had... next to Resi's dogs course.

Project Zero 3: The Tormented (Or Fatal Frame for US) When awake in Rei’s house, it’s safe. The spooks can’t get you. Only in the dream can you be haunted. Right? Wrong. As the game progresses, spooky things start to happen outside of Rei’s constant nightmare filled sleep. Sometimes subtle things you may not even notice, sometimes something bigger, often something sudden. But hey, at least nothing happens in the Dark Room where you develop your photos right? … right?
I fell in love with this channel on vids like this and it had all the tropes. The "you've caught me...." the mgs references and robs deadpan are Fling kidding me looks into the camera. Love the new style but this was a classic and I had a smile the entire time I was watching it.
One word: Ladders. Especially ladders in a FromSoft game. U think ur safe on a ladder or even once u've climbed up one & put urself between one & the enemies. Only to see a big hulking enemy defying physics to climb up the ladder after u. Perfect example: When u first talk to the little girl in Central Yharnam. There's a gate to ur left & a ladder to ur right. That big enemy below shouldn't be able to climb up but yet he does & he's not going to hold off until u've finished ur conversation with the litte girl to grind u to blood paste
0:20 - Rob, good fella me lad? Your lip syncing skills are straight out of legend. I hope, for the peace of mind of all professional voice actors out there who do that sort of thing for a living, that this took considerable effort and practice (and planning ahead?), but the results are absolutely spot-on. I can't say whether this is the best performance in the channel's history, but you lot will have a tough time topping it!
The very first time I played the original Project Zero/ Fatal Frame I was not expecting any ghosts to appear in rooms where there were save spots...nowhere is safe in that game
While the whistle-blower locker was a great one for this list I will say that lockers in general are still perfectly safe in Outlast. In my 2 or 3 playthroughs and the playthroughs of others I've watched I've never seen them check the locker you're actually in unless they've seen you go in. There's even a room when you're turning on sprinklers that only has 1 locker in it and as long as you get in after activating thenpump Chris will walk in, look around and then leave without even checking it. Them checking lockers is a good tension builder early on but once you realize they'll never check YOUR locker it really loses that and just becomes another waiting game.
The best part about the Sadako one in DBD was that initially you could turn her away from the screen so that she "jump scares" out into the distance. Then they changed it and even if you have her turned away she'll pop back into the forward position when she's about to show you her eye and you can't even turn her away until she's done, lol.
A little late to the party but I have a memorable one from the original Resident Evil 2. In Leon scenario B when you're solving the lighter puzzle in the press room. You're lulled into the false sense of "I've done this puzzle in the previous scenarios. Nothing bad is gonna happen here" then while in the middle of solving the puzzle... BAM! Mr. X bursts through the wall breaking the puzzle you thought you needed to solve. They removed this puzzle in the remake but Mr. X does burst through the opposite end of the same wall but the impact isn't as scary for me than from the original.
Does an invasion in Dark Souls starting area count for this? I bet most of us didn't expect to get steamrolled by some high-level player when we started any of the Dark Souls for the very first time.
I think also evil within 1, if they suspect you hide under the bed etc, they can get u. Funny guy, good voices too, this game channel feels most genuine for friendly having a good time bunch.
